Problem setting SIP incoming/outgoing
Hi I am a newbie to * and I am having a problem which appears strange as I did not find any mention of it anywhere in my search. Simply speaking, I have an external SIP proxy server which I am trying to configure for incoming and outgoing calls from my asterisk installation. So here is my configuration in sip.conf [general] register =>

Error SIP/2.0 488 Not acceptable here
Hello, a person trying to call me by my phone number is getting the error 488 Not acceptable here. I googled that error, seems like this error is normally caused by a failed codec negotation, though I have no clue how I could have read this out of the logs. Anyway, my setup is as follows: Asterisk 1.8.13.0 - NAT - Sipgate SIP Provider The user calling me is also using Sipgate and is calling my

Incoming SIP getting in, but not ringing.
Hi all. Just as a quote note, can I thank everyone on this list. I find my self finding pretty much every answer I am looking for on here. And a big thanks to all thoughs helping us out. Mass Respect :) Ok, I'm using a SIP provider (SipGate UK) to do my international dialing etc, working great from extension 8 on phones. However some more friends/contacts have started using SipGate also, and

SDP messages relating to rtpmap Question
SDP question if * recieves "a=rtpmap:103 telephone-event/8000" it shouldn't it send out the same "a=rtpmap:103 telephone-event/8000" to the other side of the connection? and not something like "a=rtpmap:101 telephone-event/8000"? Thanks

Asterisk rejects sdp from webrtc client
Hello, I was testing with sdp and something came up worth asking: While calling from a webrtc client to another (chrome, sip.js) Asterisk receives the following sdp and rejects it with 488 Not Acceptable. Why does this happen, what's wrong with the sdp? The second sdp body below is accepted instead. Both have rtp profile RTP/SAVPF, difference is that the second one was produced by rtpengine,

Asterisk behind NAT and Kamailio --> Internal IP in SDP and not "externip"
Hi, We have some Asterisk servers that we are moving behind a NAT to preserve public addresses and make room for growth. This is Asterisk 1.4 NAT works very good with the externip/localnet-setting when we are connected directly to our teleco. But when I try to use NAT and put them behind our Kamailio something interesting happens: The media-address in the SDP is the internal ip and not the

180 Ringing with SDP
We're dialing a disconnected number via Level 3's vector network, and are receiving this. The response has SDP in it. Apparently, Level 3 is playing early media. Asterisk doesn't seem to know what to do with SDP in a 180 RINGING, and just plays ringing. What am I missing here? How can Asterisk see there's SDP, early media, in the response and act accordingly? Any idea what causes "Oooh, got a frame with format of g729 on channel 'PJSIP/121-000001d2' when we're sending 'ulaw', switching to match"
The PJSIP endpoint is configured for ulaw only. Not sure how or why we are seeing the g729 on calls for this endpoint. Would this be a case that asterisk detects the rtp stream is g729 even though it's negotiated as ulaw? Why would asterisk change the format to g729 when disallow = all and allow = ulaw are the endpoint settings? [121] type = endpoint context = IS transport = transport1 aors

Asterisk complaning about no such host -- never asked to contact the host it complains about
Hi, I'm seeing a very strange error when dealing with Diversions. If a call setup to a number comes to an Asterisk server, that server sends a request to a third proxy, that proxy sends the call back with a Diversion flag, Asterisk complains about the host not existing (and the host is the number). Here's the output from the Asterisk CLI with SIP debugging enabled: <--- SIP read from

I can do alaw, ulaw and gsm; remote can do g729 and alaw; asterisk wants to translate g729 -> alaw. WHY?
I am having a problem with one of my callers who is using either g729 or alaw.  I can do alaw but not g729 so asterisk should negotiate alaw right?  In fact from the sip debug it looks like it does, but then I get the dreaded "channel.c:5630 set_format: Unable to find a codec translation path: (g729) -> (alaw)" and the call hangs up.  Why? Last minute thought: Is it possible that

Asterisk refuses INVITE (401) and I don't know why
Hello list, this is the communication between an Aastra 5000 PBX and Asterisk, where the Aastra makes a call to Asterisk. For some reason, Asterisk responds with 401-Unauthorized and I don't know why. Calls go well with Panasonic PBX, Avaya PBX, Alcatel-Lucent PBX but NOT with this Aastra. "clicking" sound with alaw codec
I'm trying to interface Asterisk with an Alcatel PABX and trying to find a code that works well. It says it doesn't support ulaw, though it doesn't reject it. It supports G.729, and that works fine, but we'd prefer not to use compression. When I use alaw, the path from Asterisk to the Alcatel is completely clean, but the other way has a set of clicks that kind of sound like
