Samba WINS issues over VPN
I am running Samba 3.4.8 as a PDC on Solaris 10. I recently made this
the WINS master- previously the BDC (Samba 3.0.37 on another Solaris 10
server.)
I also use Sonicwall ipsec VPN for remote access (Windows XP clients.)
The sonicwall client creates a virtual NIC on the client so that the
client can have an IP address directly on the company LAN (ie. the same
LAN as the samba

join domain from different subnet (VPN)
Hello everybody,
we have a problem joining a domain from a remote location.
The remote location is connected via VPN. Everything is working as exspected but joining the samba domain from the remote location does not work.
- Server Samba Version is 3.5.10
- Windows Client is XP SP3
- Joining the domain locally works without problems
- ping does work in both directions
- WINS is running on the

can connect to 2 samba servers by name but to one by IP only
I have a samba domain with a Samba 3.4.x PDC (compiled from source on
Solaris 10) and two Samba 3.0.x BDC's (Sun-bundled Samba on Solaris 10.)
XP clients use DHCP. When on the LAN, DHCP includes WINS server (the WINS
server is one of the Samba 3.0.x machines.)
We also have a VPN for remote client access for Windows XP machines. XP
machines could include home PC's (not in the domain)

Browse List propagation under Samba
I am using Samba version 3.0.10-1.fc2.
It is configured as an NT domain controller and has been working well. I
needed to add a routed (over VPN) connection to the system but cannot
get the routed clients to access the browse list. The clients are all
Windows XP professional. The remote client is not a domain member. All
clients work when directly connected to the Samba server (broadcast),

A FAQ: is it mandatory to include the local IP address classes in the global VPN address class?
Hello,
Since the present tinc documentation is not very clear about this, please
explain the following: is it mandatory to include the local IP address
classes in the global VPN address class?
Namely, please consider the following setup (which works great in practice):
1. A tinc VPN, full mesh, with n nodes (n > 3)
2. tinc runs on the firewall, which is also the default gateway for each

Fwd: Re: Problem with Samba - Openldap and domain autentication of Windows XP
Wait, you are using samba with openldap backend.
Why are you using useradd ??? with this backend you need smbldap instead.
like this:
passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap://your ldap server
ldap passwd sync = yes
ldap delete dn = Yes
ldap admin dn = cn=root,dc=domain,dc=com,dc=br
ldap suffix = dc=domain,dc=com,dc=br
ldap machine suffix =

VPN between two servers
Dear list!
I have a problem setting up tinc and I come to the conclusion that I might
have misunderstood something.
What I try to achieve is this:
I have two servers. They are so called "root Servers" rented from a server
hosting company. This means, each of them has 1 ethernet interface with a
public IP address on the public Internet. They are NOT gateways that have
any private

Samba 4.51 Solaris 11 AD client
Solaris 11 include samba 3.6.25. I compiled samba 4.5.1 using GCC 4.8 and
gmake. Had set following env variables to make sure krb5.conf was found
# CPLUS_INCLUDE_PATH=/usr/include:/usr/include/kerberosv5/
# C_INCLUDE_PATH=/usr/include:/usr/include/kerberosv5/
After setting "client ldap sasl wrapping = plain" I was able to join to a
Windows 2008 domain with samba 4.

What makes excel file opening so slow??
Hi list,
Despite the question I asked last time (I will re-install the FC3
with Samba 3.0.14a on another computer for replacement soon), I still
have one more question on Excel files. I found that Excel file opening
is extremely slow (especially on slow connections, i.e. VPN). The case
is really bad, it takes around 2 mins to open a excel file of around
400k. Actually we got both side having

Vpn Trouble
I am trying shorewall as my previous post With alisias on eth1 loc and 4
pptp client vpns.
The odd thing is when I enter one of the vpns in interfaces such as vpn1 it
works.
But if I enter the vpn in the hosts file shorewall blocks the vpns.

Best VPN server for * and woad warriors using windows?
Hi list!
I'm sure the topic has been discussed but I could not find what I was
looking for.
What would be the best / easiest VPN software solution. I would like to
install vpn software on the * server for roadwarriors to connect to with
laptops running windows. Ideally the vpn solution will not require any
additional software on the client side but will use IPSEC.

Synology NAS Samba Upgrade breaks "Classic" domain membership
I have a Synology NAS array appliance. It is linux based and uses
samba for file sharing. Normally the config is done via a gui
interface but you can ssh to the array. The domain controllers are
running Samba 3.6.x in classic domain mode. I have member servers
running 3.6.x and 4.3.8. no problem.
I recently updated the Synology "OS." The current version of samba is

freebsd vpn server behind nat dsl router
Hello Greg,
I am writing you, because I saw your responses to a couple of messages on
the freebsd-security mailing list related to freebsd vpn and nat.
My situations is rather unique, and I am needing an expert's eyes to
glance at it and confirm whether it is doable or not. I have a simple
diagram that illustrates what I am trying to do, and it is located here

Access to Windows 2016 server works with IP but not with netbios name
The client is a Windows 2008 R2 server. I don't know what you mean by
classic vs. AD. I assume it's AD, but how would I check?
I see the same problem, i.e. "Access is denied" and a window to enter the
username/password, if I use the fully qualified name.
Thanks,
Rob

IPsec help
Hello all,
I''m setting up (for the first time) IPsec and have a question
I need to allow another location access to a specific server in our local
network, and deny access to all other servers
I have followed Tom''s IPsec tunnel guide and setup a vpn zone, but I don''t
want to allow all traffic in both directions so I haven''t added a general
policy for vpn.

Samba on Win7?
In an environment with Win7 Embedded server and client where UNC pathnames
are used to pull files, can Samba >= 3 be used on both sides (and Windows'
own SMB disabled) so that communications can be encrypted?
(We can't use IPsec, and it doesn't look like SMB 3.0 will be coming to
Win7. Next thought was Samba. If not that, then I guess I'll look into a
VPN.)

Wbinfo does show users from trusted domain / RPC error
I tried recreating the trusts.
I start by setting up trusts on Windows side, using Active Directory
Domains and Trusts on the DomainB AD server. . I specify the the
samba domain (DOMAINB) but before I can even specify trust type or
direction I get the following:
