Vista SP1 performance fix - maybe!
Perhaps this may be of help... From: http://www.wservernews.com/ Slow Vista File Copy Nightmare Solved! WSN Reader Nick's Vista Horror story in last issue has a follow-up. He wrote: "I MAY have finally turned the corner on Vista turning me gray and bald, although what little hair I have left after the last 4 weeks is definitely going gray :) I bought a MS Wireless Desktop 1000 to

The 'Unknown keyword in config file' problem
Hello, the topic was already discussed in (for example) http://syslinux.zytor.com/archives/2006-March/006586.html but I'd like to f'up as there does not seem to be a fix yet. I'm maintainer of a Live-CD and several users reported the problem: | Unknown keyword in config file | Could not find kernel image: grml to me. The problem wasn't present with older isolinux versions (IIRC

Robocopy, archive bit and ACLs
Hello, I'm attempting to set up a daily Robocopy task on a Windows Server 2016 to duplicate a large directory tree -- including data, timestamps and ACLs -- to a Samba 4.5.12 server. This is my Robocopy command: Robocopy.exe C:\source \\foo\bar /XA:SH /XJ /MIR /NODCOPY /COPY:DTSO /A+:A /ZB I noticed that for a significant number of files, Robocopy will systematically identify them as

isolinux problem: recent kernel versions vs. old hardware
Hi, recent isolinux versions work fine with current linux kernels on current hardware. But on older hardware there isn't a bootsplash visible at all - like if there isn't a CD in the tray. :( Sadly the older isolinux versions don't work with current kernels (giving me an empty /proc/cmdline for example when using kernel 2.6.23), otherwise I'd just use an old isolinux version of

Dreaded ERROR 5 In Robocopy
I'm still battling the dreaded "ERROR 5 (0x00000005)" error when trying to robocopy files from a W2K box to Samba 3.0.7 on FreeBSD. I've been fighting this since Samba 2.2.8 and the upgrade hasn't fixed it for me despite the entries in the changlelog. Now here's the strange part. If robocopy is sending NEW files, files which are on W2K but not on the Samba box, the copy

Publication LLVM Related Publications Submission
Dear Mihail, I've added these two publications to the publications page. Please review it and let me know if I need to make any changes. In particular, if you have URLs to use for the papers, having those would be greatly appreciated. Publication LLVM Related Publications Submission
Hello, I would like to submit two papers that use LLVM to the Related Publications section. Both papers focus on code isolation applied to perform piecewise compiler optimizations. The code isolation process is performed by CERE, an open source tool based on LLVM. The second paper is an extended version of the first one. 1) Piecewise Holistic Autotuning of Compiler and Runtime Parameters

Debugging robocopy error 87 - The parameter is incorrect
Hi, I have Samba 4.6 running on FreeBSD 11.1 with a ZFS file system. Trying to use robocopy to mirror files from Windows 8.1. Most of the files are copied without any issues, but a few fail with the following error in the robocopy log: ERROR 87 (0x00000057) Copying File <path> The parameter is incorrect. Robocopy is executed with the following options: /X /NDL /S /E /DCOPY:DAT /COPY:DAT

macvtap and tagged VLANs to the VM
Hi, I would like to run a network firewall as a VM on a KVM host. There are ~ 25 VLANs delivered to the KVM host on three dedicated links, no LACP or other things. I have the VLANs 100-180 on the host's enp1s0, the VLANs 200-280 on the host's enp2s0 and the VLANs 300-380 on the host's enp3s0. To save myself from configuring all VLANs on the KVM host, I'd like to hand the entire

permissions not transferred using robocopy, xxcopy, net share migrate shares
Hello: I've been working for a few days on getting a FreeBSD 5.3 server up and running as a samba data backup server. My goal is to schedule periodic backups of our file server. After reading recommendations (e.g. by Mr. Terpstra) I've focused my attempts aroung robocopy, xxcopy, net rpc share migrate shares. However, I'm running into stumbling blocks that seem to involve a problem

Tinc-up and Windows...
Hello, I've used tinc successfully for a long time, all with Linux hosts. No problem there. Unfortunately I now have to add a Windows host to the VPN. What a fight Winblows is! Probably just my ignorance. The VPN works and tinc says that tinc-up is run (and a debugging statement proves it) but I can't get an extra route added. tinc-up.bat contains: ------------------- netsh interface

GPFS, samba, robocopy and timestamps
Hi list, I'm trying to use robocopy to move some files over to a samba share backed by GPFS. I keep getting "ERROR 50 (0x00000032) Time-stamping destination file ... The network request is not supported." What is strange is that the files are still coped over, even though robocopy believes the copy failed, and in the smb log I don't have any errors or erroneous NT_STATS

File timestamp issue
I am not convinced that it's a Samba issue, but someone might be able to answer anyway We replicate directories and files from a Windows 2019 server to two destinations, both are supposed to be used in case of a disaster, but are also used for some specific tasks. One of the replication targets is a physical Windows 2012 server and the other one an Ubuntu/Samba virtual machine. The Samba VM

Fwd: Can Samba just store ACL information (without interpreting it) without AD?
Hi, I read several articles on the internet, but I fail to understand how ACL storage technically works. Of course in almost any case, ACL should not only be stored but also evaluated, and for this this Samba server needs to be a member of the AD domain. I think I understand this, but I have a different use case. I hope someone can help and possibly has a link or such. I have a samba instance

Possible to speed up guestmount?
Hi, Apparently, guestmount -o allow_other -a "/path/to/raw_file" -m /dev/sda1 "/path/to/mountfolder" is much slower than kpartx -av "/path/to/raw_file" mount /dev/mapper/loop0p1 /path/to/mountfolder (Doing lots of read/write inside the image.) I thought guestmount "only" scripts the above. Seems I was wrong on that. I am currently using
