Problems building FreeBSD file server
I have Googled my brains out without success, and I'm hoping that someone here can give me some tips. I'm trying to build a new file server, and I've concluded that ZFS is the technology that I want to use. After doing some research I settled on FreeBSD 10 as the platform to provide it. I have an existing AD domain (two Samba 4.1.4 DCs running on Debian) and the file server will be

DDNS Error
It's me again :-) Now we have DDNS with DHCP running but we have a problem on one of our two DCs. Btw we used the setup and the script from wiki. Doing a "dhclient" on a host we are getting the following messages: ------------- Mai 16 12:13:28 samba41 dhcpd[3961]: Commit: IP: 192.168.0.249 DHCID: 1:50:5b:5d:1c:ab:aa Name: horst Mai 16 12:13:28 samba41 dhcpd[3961]: execute_statement

DDNS Error
The DDNS setup from the wiki uses the keytab of the seperate "Unprivileged user for TSIG-GSSAPI DNS updates via ISC DHCP server" you have to Check this one not the one which BIND uses. Samba 4 Alpha 17 to 4.0.x update - questions concerning S3FS / NTVFS
We had used Samba 4 alpha 17 for a long time and want to update our server now to Samba 4.0.x. The old Samba versions was using NTVFS and Samba 4.0.x is now using S3FS by default. So, what is the best practice now? Should we stay on NTVFS or should we switch to S3FS? The global part of our smb.conf looks like this: --- [global] interfaces = eth0 netbios name = PDC

About s3fs in samba4
Reading Whatsnew.txt in samba I understand that If I use s3fs, as it is set by default in the provision step, I won't be able to modify GPOs later, right? So I have a couple of questions: - What's the advantage of using s3fs over ntvfs in new installations? - If I'm planning to deploy a new Domain, probably needing to change GPOs later, should I select ntvfs??? Best regards, Felix

Samba4 AD DC using s3fs an OpenIndiana/Illumos/Solaris
Hello! I've just built my first samba4 (4.0.5) on an OpenIndiana machine without any problems. But when it comes to the provision step the problems begin. Everything is fine, if I call samba-tool with the --use-ntvfs option. But I want to use samba4 with s3fs because of the support for newer SMB protocol versions. But when I call samba-tool without --use-ntvfs option I got the following:

DDNS Error
@Rowland The tip with the Server who created the entry was good, but not our problem. We tried it with different hosts on both systems @Christian I know but at some point you try everything ;-) We fixed it the Microsoft-way by rebooting both DCs after the reboot everything was fine :-) Am 16.05.2018 um 12:57 schrieb Christian Naumer via samba: > The DDNS setup from the wiki uses the keytab of

Samba4: no --use-ntvfs option on samba-tool ntacl sysvolcheck
In samba-tool, sysvolreset has options for either --use-ntvfs or --use-s3fs to set the permissions appropriately However, sysvolcheck does not have the same capability, and always attempts to verify in s3 vfs. Is this a known limitation in Samba 4.0.0 ?

samba on ZFS
I don't believe that ZFS on FreeBSD supports acltype=posixacl and sa-based xattrs. For the record, the latest version of samba that I've been successfully able to compile on FreeBSD 10.3 is Samba 4.5.5. Samba4 upgrade compatability
I have an existing install of Samba4 ( I think beta6 vintage ), which uses ntvfs and bind9. It's only providing AD and Group Policy. I have a seperate file server running 3.6.x. I want to add a server to the domain running the most recent RC. I know they are using internal by default and s3fs for the file shares on sysvol. Can s3fs coexist with ntvfs? Can the internal DNS coexist with

I can authenticate with smbclient however when I try to access from windows with the same user, I get permission denied # smbclient //localhost/sysvol -UAdministrator -c 'ls' Enter Administrator's password:
