User Primary group problem
How do I establish both a user's primary NTgroup and Unixgroup when
creating a new user?
Depending on the tool, I can set his NTgroup or his Unix group, but I
don't seem to be able to establish both with one tool.
I'm having a little difficulty with creating users with the proper
groups. My login scripts are based on the user's primary group. When I
create a new user with

pdbedit -x -m fails to delete one machine account on samba 4.6.5 install
Hi.
I'm trying to delete a machine account using pdbedit -x -m and it

Impossible to change Primary group
I have Samba PDC and use tdbsam backend. I use the version 3.0.11, but
recently I have exchanged it for the version 3.0.23c. Now I have a
number of problem. Here is one of then.
I wish to move one user "gad" from Domain Users (RID 513) to Domain
Guests (RID 514).

samba3 PDC machine trust acount changes to user-account
Hi to all,
I have a problem with samba3 working as a PDC and can't find anything about
this but it drives me mad. Perhaps some of you saw this before.
Installed I've got the debian paket v3.0.2a-1.
After creating a machine trust account with: "pdbedit -a -m -u MACHINE" it
seems correct -> "pdbedit -Lv MACHINE" lists a "W" in account flags.
But that

Changing user SID or Domain (doesn't work)
I'll start off with my question: how do you change a user's SID? When I
issue the command:
[root@server root]# pdbedit -u testuser -U \
S-1-5-21-4000410194-515421893-615041212-2006
I see
testuser:516:Test User
[root@server root]#
Then, I do "pdbedit -Lv testuser" and it still shows the old SID.
Now, I'll give you a little background.
Previously, this server (NetBIOS

Samba update 3.0.14a to 3.2.5 -> machine needs unix account!?!
Hi list,
i've updated from 3.0.14a to 3.2.5 using a PDC-LDAP-setup.
With 3.0.14a the "Primary Group SID" value was taken from LDAP's machine
account entry.

Strange problem with pdbedit -Lv : missing users ?
Dear Gaiseric,
Yes, according to testparm the backend is a plain text file :
smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd
passdb backend = smbpasswd
Therefore I wonder where the User SIDs are stored ?!
About "getent passwd", yes all users (active users at least) have a Unix
account.
About the users that are missing in pdbedit, there is not error in
smb.log when they log in. (But I

Strange problem with pdbedit -Lv : missing users ?
Dear all,
I have a very strange problem with "pdbedit -Lv" under Samba 3.3.10, a
lot of users and machines are missing !
Strangely, all these missing machines and users are working perfectly
well.
The problem is that I need to get their SID to be able to migrate to a
new server...
TECHNICAL DETAILS :
* Samba 3.3.10
* Number of machines :
* Unix : 128 machines

Can't create machine accounts or join domain (automatically or manually with scripts or pdbedit)
Hello,
I've seen other folks posting with this problem, but I think my issue is a
bit different (thus the super long subject).
The environment is Solaris 9 09/05, running Samba 3.0.22/Sun DS 5.2/idealx
scripts 0.9.1, but I can translate openldap/linux/samba-ese if you think of
a solution that would apply in that environment.
Anyway - my core problem is an inability to add machine accounts

issue or figure a work around ?
Thanks,

Strange problem with pdbedit -Lv : missing users ?
Thank you very much for your answer.
It's the default, internal backend. (smbpasswd)
a) If I do :
tdbdump schannel_store.tdb dump | grep BWPC |grep SECRET | wc
I get 95 machines (this number looks good).
b) smbpasswd is a text file that looks good.
c) I can also do "tdbdump secrets.tdb dump"
Thanks a lot in advance for any advice,
Denis

the testparm command will show you the location of the password file and
the backend type
e.g.
smb passwd file = /etc/samba/private/smbpasswd
passdb backend = tdbsam
The backend file should be a TDB database file , not a plain text file
(unless left over from an older version.)
You may have users or computers with duplicated SIDs. You should
also use "getent

Samba 3 beta 3 Machine Trust Accounts
Okidokey
Heres the story
We currently have an NT4 Domain with 50+ machines connected to it, we
have one NT4 PDC and two NT4 BDC's.
We Currently have three redhat 7.3 servers that offer up our file shares
using Samba 2.2.x
As opposed to "upgrading" to windows 2000 we want to see if we can
migrate across to a Samba controlled domain. Now then I currently have a

pdbedit problems
Greetings,
I am running samba-3.0.10-1.4E.9 installed from rpm on CentOS 4.4. I
have it configured as a PDC. It is using the /passdb backend = tdbsam/
backend. I am using /pdbedit/ to make some configuration changes to user
passwords. I would like to expire a users password, so that they are
required to change it the next time they log in. From all that I have
read in on-line resources
