"home folder" v.s. regular drive mappings
Hey, has anyone on the list experienced the following behavior ? When \\server\userhome <\\server\userhome> is specified as the "home folder" in the AD user profile, XP takes a long time to open up "my computer" But when \\server\userhome <\\server\userhome> is mapped via a netlogon script, XP opens "my computer" quickly I've searched ms technet

samba 4.2 RDP problem
Hi, same problem here! Updated my test-environment with two Dcs from sernet-samba 4.1.17-10 to 4.2.1-7. And now if you try to open a rdp session to a client mashine and login with domain credentials the login hangs right after the welcome screen appears. It does not matter if you use the domain admin or a normal user account. Local client side user are working without any problem. Regards,

Samba + LDAP integration
Hi people, Been doing a server installation with Samba as a primary PDC that uses an LDAP backend on CentOS 5. The thing is that I cannot be able to get Samba and LDAP to talk as they should and now Im really stuck. Below are my dumps for /etc/samba/smb.conf, ldap.conf (copied its contents to /etc/openldap/ldap.conf too), and smbldap.conf. Excuse my long post; trying to be as elaborate as

Winbind Authentication on Redhat & Home Directories
Hi all, I have Winbind authentication up and running properly (thanks to new, easy to use features of Redhat Ent 4). My question is this. I know that I can, by massaging /etc/pam.d files manually, have Winbind/Samba automatically create a home directory for each user that logs in, but I am wondering if Samba/Winbind can instead map to their home directory as defined in their Windows profile

samba 4.2 RDP problem
Hi Mathias I can confirm that this fixed the RDP issue for me whilst not breaking share authentication. I'm still a bit wary of what other affects these configuration options might have though. thanks for the answer, Louis. i m talking about the userhome dir. I ve already read https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_Home_Folders and i m applying the posix acls to my share. As the users's home is shared between windows and linux, i d rather use the posix acls than the windows ones. Beside the homedir of my users have a form like /home/ first letter of name /login ( ex : /home/d/dare

Add Win2008R2 DC to Samba4 domain
Has anyone successfully added a Win2008R2 DC to a Samba4 domain? The issue I am encountering is the sysvol/netlogon shares are not created. I can manually create them and copy files, but as soon as I demote/forcefully remove the Samba4 server, the Win2008R2 server refuses to serve requests for the domain. I cannot even manage it through ADUC.

Best way to setup Samba + OpenLDAP + Linux to use a different partition for /home?
Thanks in advance! I can't believe the level of service / help I've gotten from this group. Anyway, I have a Samba server acting as a PDC on a network. The server has a small OS drive and one very large RAID array for data / files. Right now, I have Ubuntu 8.04 installed and Samba is using openLDAP for authentication. The person who will add new users is not very technical and needs a

getting permissions denied on home folders
I have a fresh Debian based Samba server and Member server setup. I have configured profiles and they appear to be saving properly to the member server. When I attempt to adjust file permissions (as instructed by the Sambawiki page "Samba & Windows Profiles") I am getting "Access Denied" complaints. These I believe (I could be wrong) relate to the file permissions
