How to properly demote a W2003 from Samba4?
Hello all,
I'm always trying to migrate from W2000 server to Samba 4.
For doing this, I tried this :
- install a W2003 server with AD and DNS services, join it to W2000,
transfer roles and after demote the old W2000 -> done
- install a Sernet Samba4 with Bind9, join W2003, transfer roles -> done
At this point the sync process is working in two way, I can manage DNS
and AD with rsat

How to properly demote a W2003 from Samba4?
Disturbing...
Every where I read I see only 5 roles to transfer in windows 2003 server :
* /transfer PDC/
* /transfer RID master/
* /transfer infrastructure master/
* /transfer naming master/
* /transfer schema master/
How to transfer the 2 other "roles"?
Thanks.

empty password
Samba-4.0.10 in AD mode.
I need to have an account with an empty password.
After checking the smb.conf manpage (and also smbpasswd manpage), I added to
the smb.conf file:
null passwords = Yes
The result is a warning from commands like smbstatus:
WARNING: The "null passwords" option is deprecated
I cannot find the new option to achieve this. How is it supposed to be configured

best practice for migrating win-dc to samba-dc
Hi:
I want to test migrating windows dc to samba dc (without
considering sysvol replication).
I installed brand new 2003R2, 2008R2, 2012R2 (with 2008R2
functional level).
I compiled samba 4.7.7, 4.8.1 at centos 7.4.
1. I tried to join samba as DC to windows with command:
samba-tool domain join samdom.example.com DC
-U"SAMDOM\administrator"

Samba as domain member server cannot authenticate users
This problem was already described on a very similar way in Oct 2004
on the following message:
[http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2004-October/094683.html]
As no solution was found so far, I am re-posting it on the hope that
somebody can help.

Server 2008R2 won't join 4.5.0 Domain
Hello,
I can’t get a fully patched Server 2008 R2 DC to finish DCPROMO joining as a domain controller to my Samba4 AD domain.
dcpromo.exe begins replication but gets stuck on “Replicating data CN=Configuration,DC=samdom,DC=contoso,DC=com: Received 1999 off of approximately 1999 objects and 74 out of approximately 74 distinguished name (DN) values…
Examining the dcpromo.log file just shows

Is it possible to lower the domain and forest functional level
Hello all,
We have a samba 4 domain controller.
The domain controller was at first a secondary domain controller.
We joined it to a domain were the first controller was a windows 2003 server.
Then we have transfer the fsmo roles to the linux controller and demote the 2003 server.
I then ran all the ldf files from the 2008 R2 dcpromo and raised the functional levels.
Now we need to go back to

Win2003 DC fails to detect Samba 4 DC
I have an (apparently) valid Samba4 DC to which I have transferred all
FSMO roles in preparation for running dcpromo and demoting the Win DC.
All of the logs look good on the Samba DC and showrepl indicates no
errors. Unfortunately, the Win DC does not seem to detect the Samba DC
when I attempt to run dcpromo and it throws a nasty warning about AD
data being lost. If I run Sites and Services,

Multiple computers using same Wine installation?
Hey guys,
I have two Linux computers. I'd like to make it so that regardless of which Linux computer I'm sitting at, I can fire up Quicken (via Wine). Specifically, I want to access the same set of Quicken data files regardless of which Linux computer I'm sitting at. (I can be self-disciplined to only have Wine running on one computer at a time.)
Does Wine support this? If so, would

3 domains, full trust between all, move samba server join to other domain
Hello all,
I have a Samba file server running that is member of a windows AD domain.
Later I added 2 more domains with a full trust relationship between all
3. (all are Windows AD)
Everything works perfectly, wbinfo -u/-g shows all users/groups from all
3 domains, and ACLs work perfectly.
I now want to decommission 2 of the domains, and leave only 1 domain.
Lets say they are:

Is it possible to lower the domain and forest functional level
I don't know exactly, but there were problems with indexes ( as the user said ).
We did not try with the current release and our manager wants to go back to Microsoft :-(
Our samba version is 4.7.5.
I've been able to go one step further. We first were not able to join a Windows 2008 R2 as a domain controller because it was asking for adprep.
I found the missing datas in the ldap and added

Unable to transfer ForestDns/DomainDNS
I'm working my way off of our Windows 2003 R2 Domain Server. That machine
is called PDC, sorry really bad planning so many years ago! So my end goal
is to have two samba4 domain controllers. They are setup and joined as
DC's, dc01 and dc02. I have most of my files off of PDC but would like to
keep it up for a little longer to make sure I have everything off of there.
So I tried

Server 2008R2 won't join 4.5.0 Domain
This is actually a similar scenario to mine, I neglected to mention that before this happened, I had joined a Server 2008 R2 to the domain and promoted it to FSMO, then moved FSMO back to S4 DC and demoted the Server 2008 R2 controller.
I did what you suggested and it worked! I am assuming this is a bug. Thank you for your suggestion.

Samba4 on CentOS 6.3 - IPTABLES how-to???
Hello,
I do appologize if this is something that was already discussed somewhere else... but for now I was not able to find the appropriate How-To.
Would anybody know what the IPTABLES entries are to have working Samba4 Domain Controller?
I tried the following:
-A INPUT -p tcp -m state --state NEW -m tcp --dport 88 -j ACCEPT
-A INPUT -p tcp -m state --state NEW -m tcp --dport 749 -j ACCEPT
