Macintosh OS 9.2 and SMB Networks
Some use Dave (http://www.thursby.com/products/dave.html) or DoubleTalk
(http://www.connectix.com/products/dt.html). However, we use Netatalk
(http://netatalk.sourceforge.net/) successfully to share the Unix/Samba file
system with our Mac clients. Is there any reason you can't use Netatalk?

Older Mac to SAMBA copy
I've built a new samba server to replace an aging Apple 9500 running 8.6
that is acting as a 'file server'. The other macs run 9.2 and 10.2, which
are the computers that will be served (I HOPE!) by the samba server.
I have installed DAVE in order to be able to copy the files over to the new
server. However, as the files copy, they disappear on the samba
server. Someone said it

Apple shares?
Hi,
I have a need to do some file transfers between my AIX 4.3.3 boxes and Apple
PC's. I use SAMBA to provide shares to PC's, but I know nothing about Apple.
FTP is an option, but less desirable than setting up a share. Does anyone
have experience with using SAMBA to set up shares with Apple clients?
I know that there are, other products to accomplish what I ask, but in terms
of support

Macintosh + Samba integration
I have been searching through the docs and on the web to no avail.
I work at a university and we are moving our fileservers to new
hardware.
The problem is, nothing seems to integrate Mac's and Win box's happily.
We have a large user base using samba already, but when mac's pick up
the same share via CAP, CAP creates files to deal with the dual 'stream'
nature of files from a

Issue with Mavericks Mail Client
We run a dovecot mailserver. One of the clients I use is a Mac Laptop.
Recently I upgraded from Mountain Lion (10.8) to Mavericks (10.9). Under
10.8 it worked fine. On 10.9 it syncs up when I invoke the client, but
after a while stops getting updates.
Most of my mail clients are on Linux (thunderbird) or Android (K9) and I
admit that several run against my very large INBOX simultaneously. The

issues with Time Machine - did macOS change how they handle things?
TL;DR: Time Machine cannot create a *new* backup on my shared drive, but can add to an *existing* backup.
I'm running macOS Catalina and my Time Machine backs up to a Debian 10 server with NetAtalk and Avahi. Since Mavericks macOS has preferred SMB, and given SMB is marginally faster I decided to switch to using SMB for the Time Machine shares. On a fresh AFP share I can start a new Time

Dissapearing samba servers
Hi
I've seen a couple of people post this problem, but I've never seen an
answer, and now it's happenning to me.
I run Solaris 2.5.1, and samba-1.9.17p1.
Every so often a pc can look in the network neighborhood and the samba
server just isn't there, though you can still map a network drive by
using a UNC pathway:
\\server\share
so the share is still out there but the server

Feature request: Sync Mac OS resource forks and metadata on Mac OS X
I have a feature request for rsync. I tried posting it to the
FAQ-o-matic, but that system didn't seem to be accepting new
questions. I hope this is an okay list for the request--apologies if
it's misdirected.
Mac OS X provides support for the Mac file system resource forks and
mac specific metadata (e.g., creator and file type). Most Unix
applications ignore this information, but it

[HOWTO] Running Xen 4.0 host (dom0) with Redhat Enterprise Linux 6 (RHEL6)
Hello,
If you're interested in running Xen 4.0 hypervisor/dom0 on RHEL6,
take a look at here: http://wiki.xen.org/xenwiki/RHEL6Xen4Tutorial
It explains steps needed to rebuild Xen 4.0.1 src.rpm from Fedora on RHEL6,
and how to fetch dom0 capable 2.6.32.x kernel from upstream git repository.
It also shows how to get libvirt/virt-manager working with Xen on RHEL6.
Hopefully it helps :)

Dovecot 2.1.0 packages for CentOS 6 / RHEL6
Hi,
First, Timo, Thank you for Dovecot 2.1.0.
I've built Dovecot 2.1.0 RPMs including Dovecot-Pigeonhole 0.3.0 for
RHEL6, CentOS 6 and Scientific Linux 6.
If anyone is interested in testing these RPMs:
http://oss.imt-systems.com/mstevens/el6/dovecot/2.1.0/
Feedback would be appreciated.
After some testing, we will use these RPMs on our IMAP servers.
Best regards,
Morten

tcltk on linux/rhel6
Dear All,
I've seen posts to the effect that..
1) choose.dir is only available for windows, and
2) tk_choose.dir would be the linux equivalent.
I'm still having trouble with the subject package on linux/rhel6.
I've specified --with-tcltk during ./configure, and I still get the response...

Puppetlabs Yum Repo augeas for RHEL6 x86_64
Hello,
I am working on building an internal repo for RHEL6 x86_64 and I don''t see any augeas rpms in the puppetlabs repo? There are for i686 but not x86_64? Are the rpms "noarch" that can be used for both?

RHEL6 packages - SRTP support?
I tried installing the Asterisk 11 RHEL6 packages from packages.asterisk.org
I followed this guide:
https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/Asterisk+Packages
The SRTP support appears to be missing though. I notice libsrtp was not
automatically installed as a dependency, and no srtp module exists under
/usr/lib64/asterisk/modules
Is it still necessary to do a source build every time SRTP is

Apache 2.2 EOL - what is Red Hat's story for RHEL6?
Hi folks,
I have been googling for a few weeks now and not finding anything.
Apache 2.2 is EOL at the end of this year.
Has Red Hat announced a plan yet on what they are doing in RHEL6?
I am assuming they will up-version from 6.9 to 6.10 and as part of
that upgrade from Apache 2.2 to Apache 2.4 ?
thanks,
