Gluster machines slowing down over time
I have 2 gluster servers in replicated mode on EC2 with ~4G RAM CPU and RAM look fine but over time the system becomes sluggish, particularly networking. I notice when sshing into the machine takes ages and running remote commands with capistrano takes longer and longer. Any kernel settings people typically use? Thanks, Tom -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was

About numerical accuracy: should there be a rational number class for fractions?
Hello, useRs. I was monitoring the recent thread about the numerical (in)accuracy of the C pow function and the apparent mismatch between R and matlab. That particular problem has been addressed, but it seems there are many others awaiting. I'm wondering if there is advice for package writers & prospective R contributors about avoiding the most common sorts of numerical mistakes. Has

Deploying to production with backgroundrb (capistrano)
I have noticed that occasionally (about 50% of the time) when i deploy (using capistrano) my app to a production server, i have to ssh into the box and manually stop and start backgroundrb to get it to load my workers. this is my basic setup i have 2 workers: lib/workers/mp3_worker.rb => takes a hash of params to downsample an mp3 lib/workers/flv_worker.rb => takes a has of

Stop Warnings for Invalid Factor Level, NAs generated?
How can I stop the following warning from occuring? invalid factor level, NAs generated in: "[<-.factor"(`*tmp*`, iseq, value = structure(1, .Label = "12", class = "factor")) The Label messages are for "5", "8", "12" and "46". I want the NAs to be generated as needed. Is this causing R to slow down by generating the warning

Can't figure out how to restart VM after making config changes in virt-manager
I finally figured out my VNC configuration, so I can now run virt-manager to inspect and manipulate my VM. I initially created the VM with "virt-install", but I haven't been able to see the console or do anything with it. When I ran virt-manager, I tried to configure the vcpus (1->4) and change the boot order (cdrom, then disk, as I created the VM with an ISO). When I made

Logistic Regression with 9 classes
Hello! I need to classify a data set with 19 variables and 9 classes using Logistic Regression(on R). I know that when we have only 2 classes we can use glm() to estimate the coefficients of the model. But I don?t understand how can I do a classification task with Logistic Regression on a data set with 9 classes! Does anybody know how can I estimate these coefficients (of a model with 9

I''m in the process of upgrading an existing installation from .24.x to 2.6. Ultra-slow DB connection / Reverse DNS
Our network admin did some work with load balancing on our test system last night. This morning, I came in and tried to SSH into our fileserver, and it took forever. Ditto for SSHing within the network. Ditto for any MySQL connection, including the connections that the app servers make. I''m sure this is due to Reverse DNS lookup attempts. When I added host entries for all the

Kerberos with delegated domain
Ok, here is the set-up. We have a domain that is the main domain, it handles DHCP and DNS for domain.edu. The DNS for domain.edu has NS records to delegate domain.local to our Active Directory. I am able to bind a machine just fine to the Active Directory without having to change any of the client DNS settings (which poing to domain.edu). File services work fine. I'm trying to work out single

It''s effectively a point to point link, allowing domain 0 to connect on to the bridge in the same manner that other domains do. (before, packets to domain 0 were short-cutted and came off the

logon problems
I am really not sure if this is a samba problem or what, but is starting to annoy me. Here is what is happening. Server 1: Squid, squidguard, dansguardian, iptables (This is firewall/filter) Server2: Samba (used for file storage and squid authentification) Clients are Windows 98. A few XP's. Everything has run fine for almost 2 years. The other day when trying to log on to the internet,

pam_winbind succeeds but pam_unix fails !
Hi, I am attempting to authenticate ssh access against users in active directory using winbind + pam . Unfortunately all they receive is "permission denied, please try again".
