Multiple identities
Hi, I recently moved from courier-imap to dovecot, to be able to work with managesieve. I use version 1.2.5, on suse 10.3. I used the script to migrate the courier maildir to dovecot format. It seems to work fine except for one problem : I use a number of aliasses and with Thunderbird I can select which alias (e-mail-address) to use as my identity when sending a mail. I sniffed with wireshark,

Question about policies [OT?]
Hi, I'm using samba 3 as a domain controller. For some XP-pro laptops I would like to disable the firewall when they are logged in on our network (I don't like it but I have to). Is this possible with Windows policies ? If so, does someone know about good reading material about policies ? I do have "Mastering Windows XP professional" but that's absolutely no help. Thanks

pdf-printer
Hi, I recently migrated from samba3 to samba4. On the samba3 server I had a "printer" that converted pcl6 to pdf. I tried to make a similar printer in samba4, but it's not working. Not working means the printed document is nowhere to be found. This is the section in smb.conf : [papyrusPDF] comment = Papyrus-to-PDF printer path = /var/spool/samba # guest ok = Yes

Slow connection
Hi, Last week I discovered that my samba-server seems rather slow. When I searched around I discovered that I wasn't the only one experiencing this, but I didn't find a solution. I experimented a little, and I hope someone can suggest a solution. First my server : SuSE 8.1, with Samba 2.2.5 (comes with the distribution). From a WinME-client I uploaded a 160Mb file to the samba-server.

Hai Koenraad, Just a suggest, what about and email adres to create your pdf files. thats what im doing here. like companypaper at domain.tld , which generates from excel doc etc to a pdf file with companypaper. or plain at domain.tld same as above but no company logo. or multipdf at domain.tld merge mutiple pdf files to 1. ( or multiple doc/xls files ) and this is much faster for us

Client behaviour with sieve
Hi, I have a working dovecot imap-server, with sieve. I find it odd that my mail-clients (Thunderbird 2 and 3) don't report anything that's new in the folders. What I mean is this : Postfix get's a mail and hands it over to dovecot's LDA and sieve moves it to a folder. When I log in with Thunderbird, I see new messages in my Inbox. But that message that was moved to a folder is

Two samba's not playing together
Hi, I just tried to migrate my NT-PDC to samba-3.0.20b. Everything worked fine except for a problem with my old file-server running samba-2.2.5 with winbind. I can connect to and use shares on the new PDC and I can manage users and groups. But when I try to connect to the file-server I'm refused access. When I prepared this mail, I remarked that in smb.conf I somehow deleted the

Archiving mail
Hi, I'm going to migrate my company-mailserver to new hardware. I would like to take the opportunity to archive some older mail. But I would like to have it still accessible, would this be possible with dovecot ? I mean, I would like to put that older mail from different users (I got about 50 users) on some read-only media but mount that media in the users mail-dirs. That way I will have

Samba-3 by example Ch.3
Hi, I'm following chapter 3 (from the web-site), and I copied and pasted the smb.conf file. I corrected an error (I think) : passwd chat = *New*... : the "=" was missing and then "*New*..." was on the following line. Then I ran testparm -s, and I got an error : ERROR: the 'passwd program' () requires a '%u' parameter. I seem unable to solve this. Any

Why would "net rpc rights grant" fail ?
Hi, Me again, still trying to migrate my samba3-server. Using the script op L.P.H. van Belle, there is one failure : net rpc rights grant ${SETNTDOM}\\"Domain Admins" SeDiskOperatorPrivilege -U${SETNTUSER} This is the result : ==========SE Privileges =============================== Giving group Domain Admins the SeDiskOperatorPrivilege rights. Enter Admikoen's password: Could not

ADDC and fileserver
Hi, I'm planning to make a samba4 domain. My initial plan was to make the DC also fileserver. Recently I saw a discussion strongly discouraging the use of a DC as fileserver. That was not the first time is saw similar remarks. So I think I need a DC and a member server. But how does it work concerning the "home-shares" of users ? Are those also on the member-server ? So that

Managing users
Hi, I'm struggling to manage users via the Nexus-tool on a Samba PDC. I am unable to add users, although I can remove them and add and remove groups. When I try to add a user, there is a message 'Procedure number out of range' or something like that (I'm translating from Dutch). I'm using the smb.conf of Samba by Example, chapter 4, from the CD. I did the validation tests

copy files to windows thru smbmount
hello i have this strange problem: i've ounted up a windows share on my linux machine, and tryign to copy a file to it, which is bigger than 2gbs, and it fails with a "maximum file size exceeded" error. the linux is running ext3, and windows is ntfs, so the size limit must be somewhere in samba. i've read on http://www.mail-archive.com/samba@lists.samba.org/msg10412.html

How does dovecot determine users from /etc/passwd?
We're using dovecot on a help desk ticketing system. The system doesn't perform any cleanup of IMAP mailboxes so we have a regular cronjob doing this: /usr/bin/doveadm flags add -A '\Deleted' SEEN SENTBEFORE 12w && /usr/bin/doveadm expunge -A DELETED MAILBOX '*' Recently, doveadm has been reporting this: doveadm(nobody): Error: User initialization failed:

I ran dovecot -a and the blizzard of data seemed ok to my limited knowledge. Is there another log I should look into to trace this error down?
