xeon quad core?
Can anyone share their experience with installing RHEL / Centos (latest production release) on the Dell 2950 (or 2900) with the quad-core e5310 processor? Does anyone know what chipset Dell is using on this box? I've got one on the way, and I'm hoping to use centos as the 'host' OS for several virtual machines (some of them Windows pigs), running vmware server. some of the

Software versus hardware RAID performance.
With the Dell OpenManage question on my mind (and having seen it answered very well), I was reminded of an interesting and a little surprising thing I saw yesterday. I upgraded a PowerEdge 2850 from CentOS4 to Fedora Core 5 (keeping everything updated for GNUradio to run on CentOS 4 became more of a job that it should have) for our pulsar data processing machine (it has a GNUradio Universal

CentOS 4.4 Strange hang on a poweredge 2900.
I have a brand new poweredge 2900 with 10 SAS drives configured in two arrays via the built-in PERC 5 raid controller as: raid 1: 2x73GB raid 10: 8x300GB It's got 4GB of ram, and it's intended to be an NFS filestore. For some strange reason, logging in with ssh works great, it returns a prompt, all seems well. I go to run a simple command like 'top' or 'yum -y install

kernel-devel largesmp or ELlarge?
I'm having trouble updating my iscsitarget modules, and it seems to be related to a naming convention mixup? here's the output of the build command: [root at vmhost ~]# rpmbuild --rebuild --sign iscsitarget-0.4.14.96-0.amherst.src.rpm Installing iscsitarget-0.4.14.96-0.amherst.src.rpm error: Failed build dependencies: kernel-devel = 2.6.9-42.0.10.ELlarge is needed by

PE2950, RAID 0, failed disk
I have a Dell PowerEdge 2950 with PERC 5/i, and 6 disks. Two disks have one logical volume via a hardware RAID 1 and consist of CentOS 5 64-bit; the remaining four comprise a logical volume via a hardware RAID 0, and is all user data. One drive on the RAID 0 went bad. I removed it while the system was on, tried a reboot, and the system hangs at RedHat Linux... Starting I tried to boot

C5 64-bit and software RAID 6?
I have a Dell PowerEdge 2950 with 6 SAS disks and a PERC 5/i controller what won't do RAID 6. I plan to have 2 drives as RAID 1 for the OS, and the remaining 4 as RAID 6. Granted the PERC can do RAID 1, I'm tempted to do everything via software RAID. Thus, if anything goes wrong with the controller, I just need to obtain a new SAS controller and I'm back up. I learned my lesson

Too much init_sam_from_ldap...
Hi ! I'm working in a educational administration, i've made a domain with a Samba 3.4.1 PDC with a LDAP backend. When a user log into an XP Workstation, i see in the log file a lot of "init_sam_from_ldap". In fact, instead of scanning only the user who try to connect, a lot of them are scanned. I've got about 600 account into the LDAP so the time needed by the user

Megacli issue with Xen PERC 5/i Poweredge 2950 II
I am having an issue with Megacli when adding or removing virtual disks. I will post a link to fpaste that has the issue shown. In brief whenever i add, or remove, a virtual disk via MegaCli the attempt succeeds and the adapter is configured but the OS remounts dm-0 in read only. dm-0 is my root lv. This issue does not happen if i boot into the default, non Xen, CentOS kernel. On stock

[perf-discuss] help diagnosing system hang
Interresting... I wonder what differs between your system and mine. With my dirt-simple stress-test: server1# zpool create X25E c1t15d0 server1# zfs set sharenfs=rw X25E server1# chmod a+w /X25E server2# cd /net/server1/X25E server2# gtar zxf /var/tmp/emacs-22.3.tar.gz and a fully patched X42420 running Solaris 10 U7 I still see these errors: Jul 7 22:35:04 merope Error for Command:

Status on Poweredge Dell with Raid
I know this is off-topic to the list, but someone asked me to make the information that I garnered about Dell Poweredge systems available to the list. So, here it is. Basically, after a search on dejanews, I came across this article: http://x5.dejanews.com/getdoc.xp?AN=430135686&CONTEXT=917266543.1696071777&hitnum=19 In it, someone states that there are drivers for the PERC RAID

CentOS 8 Installation Not Recognizing Local Disk
There was a recent thread about Redhat's removal of drivers from LSI SAS2, it's probably the problem you are facing. It can be worked around with the help of Elrepo repo. https://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/2019-October/173682.html https://elrepoproject.blogspot.com/2019/08/rhel-80-and-support-for-removed-adapters.html

HW experience
Hi, we would like to establish a small Lustre instance and for the OST planning to use standard Dell PE1950 servers (2x QuadCore + 16 GB Ram) and for the disk a JBOD (MD1000) steered by the PE1950 internal Raid controller (Raid-6). Any experience (good or bad) with such a config ? thanxs, Martin

CentOS 8 Installation Not Recognizing Local Disk
I have an older Dell PowerEdge server with one hard drive, with CentOS 7 currently installed. I wanted to do a clean install of CentOS 8, but it doesn't pick up the hard drive. When I click on the destination to pick the hard drive it only shows the USB drive that I'm installing from. I checked for a RAID configuration on the server, but there is only one disk, and no RAID is configured.
