rails guides - getting started - section 10 security
The example doesn''t work as described for me; not sure if I haven''t followed it right, or there''s a problem with the code. Can someone help me to determine what the problem is. Specifically, after adding the authentication code to the PostsController, with this line: before_filter :authenticate, :except => [:index, :show] The guide says that "we want the user

HTTP Auth 401 Even on Valid Login
I can''t understand why authenticate_or_request_with_http_basic keeps failing even though I am entering the correct info. If I try to access /admin/items/new, I enter the correct info but I keep getting prompted. The strange part is that when I cancel out, I get "HTTP Basic: Acce". Here''s the controllers: class Admin::BaseController < ApplicationController

Problems w/ before_filter getting ignored
Hello, I''m setting up an authentication module that will be called from application.rb. I want to save a rrequest.request_uri into a session to be used as a place holder that will take users back to the page they were on before they logged in. I''m trying to call the store_location method for all methods EXCEPT login by putting login in an except before filter. For some

optional authentication and HTTP Basic
Hi all, I have an app that originally only supported form-based authentication, and showed pared-down content to unauthenticated users. I then layered on HTTP Basic authentication using authenticate_with_http_basic, which worked fine for scripts like LWP/ wget/curl. However, some web browsers refuse to submit credentials in the URL (eg.

Complex Forms (From Railscasts.com)
Hi, I have been watching the last three episodes on railscasts.com in which he goes through dealing with multiple models in one for using fields_for, and virtual attributes. (http://railscasts.com/episodes/ 73). Here is an example of the way they suggest to go about it: # projects_controller.rb def new @project = Project.new 3.times { @project.tasks.build } end def create @project =

Offline apps and Asset pipeline Problem in rails3.2
I have a question about using rack-offline with asset pipeline in rails3.2.2. rack-offline creates application.manifest for local caching. This gem watches file modification then re-generate hash-key in manifest. I confuse offline apps with asset pipeline. asset pipeline provides variable paths file to assets/foo.js (actually app/assets/javascript/foo.js). I use `config.assets.debug = false`

Globalize3 gem, upload data from CSV
Rails 3.1.3 Globalize3 latest I am not sure if I can ask this question here in general Rails forum. But I''ll try. Currently I am using a gem, Globalize3, which is useful for model I18n. https://github.com/svenfuchs/globalize3 Say, I have a model City, having only one column, name. City names appear differently depending on the language, so perhaps this particular gem is useful.
