migrations in rails?
Are migrations used only when you''re making changes to a database? Does
it just allow the developer to avoid using raw SQL when working with
databases?

DRY Javascript Degredation
Hi,
It seems there must be a better way to do this than what I am
currently doing.
I have a simple app that collects a users thoughts along with their
email address and their first an last name. On a page that lists all
the users thoughts they can click on a link to "add a thought" which
then displays a form with ajax. My current methodology for this is
not very dry. If js is

form_remote_for, reloaded
Hi,
being relativly new to RoR, I''m having a problem which I found described
in this forum and somewhere else - but with no solution. I know, that it
may be bad to mix table and form tags, but the first solution of an in
place editing within a table looked nice:
Version using form_for:

<%form_for :time_record, :url => { :action => "add_time_record" } do

file_field doesnt work inside form_remote_for
When I do file_field within a form_for things are fine... but within a
form_remote_for, with nothing else changed, I find that the params
does not even have the element document[uploaded_file] even though it
is definitely present in the HTML source in the form. Obviously the
file upload fails.
Am I missing something? Or has someone else faced this? Or is this a
known bug?

difference between attr_accessor and attr_accessible?
Hi,
What''s the difference between attr_accessor and attr_accessible?
Is attr_accessor to create a virtual variable/object and attr_accessible
makes it accessible? Do you need attr_accessible if you already have
attr_accessor?
Thanks!

dom id on form_remote_tag
I want to make use of a form_remote_tag to submit a form
asynchronously. Easy done. However, we also want to add an
observe_form tag to check for some value changes while the form is
being entered.
The observe_form tag needs a dom id to work on but I can''t see how to
enter an html option for the dom id of the form on the
form_remote_tag.
Any ideas?
Here is the form tag so far...

Are form_remote_tag and submit_to_remote mutually exclusive?
Do I need to use submit_to_remote in conjunction with or instead of
form_remote_tag? The description in the API docs. is confusing.
Is the combination of form_tag/submit_to_remote valid?
Is the combination of from_remote_tag/submit_tag valid?
Thanks,
Wes

form_remote_tag : additional onsubmit funct. possible ?
Is there a way to add onsubmit functionality to a form_remote_tag with
an additional javascript directive?
eg I''d like for an inline javascript to make the form''s div container
hidden as soon as the button is pressed to avoid having it possibly get
pressed again ( sometimes the rails response is slow enough for a user
to think they need to re-press it ).
example:

Is it possible to upload file with form_remote_tag?
I have tried to upload a picture file with file_column plugin and
form_remote_tag, but no success.
When I do request.params.inspect it shows null for picture parameters.
With normal form the file uploads nicely, so is it possible to upload
file with form_remote_tag?

form_remote_tag :onsubmit not working.
Hi,
Has anyone successfully implemented the :onsubmit option for
form_remote_tag. It doesn''t seem to work for me. Is there any specific
version of rails which is required for the same.
Here''s my piece of code.
<script>
function set_tojid(){
alert(''onsubmit'');
}
</script>

Text field not being submitted via form_remote_tag; works via form_tag
Hi everyone,
Newbie here. I''m trying to get a textual form element to submit in
the context of a form_remote_tag block and having little success.
Oddly (or perhaps not), using regular old form_tag in its place does
cause the elements to be submitted. Here''s the relevant partial ERb
code:
<%= form_remote_tag( { :url => { :action => :out, :id => pending_task } } )

syntax for specifying :html fallback on form_remote_tag
Has anyone gotten the :html option for specifying a ''fallback'' action if javascript''s not enabled working on form_remote_tag (or remote_form_for)? I can''t figure out how to specify the action that''s supposed to be invoked if js _is_ enabled.
Or maybe I''m just misunderstanding how this thing is supposed to work. I was assuming
