Event Calendar/Scheduler Implementation
Hi there.
I am a RoR newbie and come from the Java/C# perspective. After digging
into Rails I would like to convert an ASP.NET project -that served as
a protoype- to RoR.
The only thing that I havenĀ“t got a good solution for is handling
calendar events. With that I specifically mean creating, moving an
event or a set of events as well as recurrence handling - similar to
Google Calendar if you

Use Ransack with radio buttons for boolean values
Hello
I''m trying to search for active and non active users. These radio buttons
work just fine except that it didn''t reselect itself after the form has
been submitted. So, what should I do to ensure it will be selected just
like how my text field populated automatically after the form has been
submitted?

Deleting join association of has_many :through
I''m trying to use has_many :through, since my join model deserves being
more than just an intersection table.
But when I try to break the association, the break only seems
"temporary":
Let''s say my two tables are Users and Colors, and the join model is
Favorites.
user = Users.find(1)
user.colors.length
>> 2
c = user.colors.first
>> #<Color:....>

Best way to implement?
So I''m new to all this Rails stuff and this is probably a database
design-related question to, but here it is...
Just for learning I''m trying to build a little real estate listings
application. Of course there is the listings model which will store
basic information like name, price, description, and all that jazz.
I''m to the point where I want to figure out how to

existing magic to prevent db redundancy?
suppose users have a favorite colour, linked to with a color_id field.
suppose also they have a pet rock, which is one of many possible
colors...
is there a ''best practice'' in order to avoid having ''blue'' appear in the
Color table 100 times. can validates_uniqueness_of be twisted into
handling this case? should i be adding something to the initialize()

creating a model registry
Hi all,
This is a problem I''ve approached so many times and always worked
around, that now I want to solve it once and for all. Say I have
something like this:
---
class X < ActiveRecord::Base
acts_as_wacky
end
module Wackinator
class ControlAllWackos
@@wackos = []
def self.kill_wackos
@@wackos.each(&:kill)
end
end
def acts_as_wacky

searching on foreing keys
Hey all,
I''m using a simple search function. It''s working
great except for foreign keys.
I have one table pets (id,name,owner_id)
and another table people(id,name)
owner_id being a foreign key of pet pointing to people name.
here it is on the pet controller:
@paginator, @pets= paginate(:pets, :conditions =>["name OR owner_id

Some random rails, and maybe Ruby, questions..
Hi,
I''m attempting to create a users statistics controller, and have saved
up some questions regarding this for this post.
So, please comment on any one of them, if not all :-)
1) Is there a library somewhere for doing stats? (e.g. mean, median,
sd, skewness..) on an array in rails?
2) What library would you recommend for "publication ready" (i.e. not
cheesy) histograms,

Shopping Cart: SKU and Product Confusion
Hi there,
I''m at a loss...
I was on the #ROR channel last night and spoke to a really helpful person
(Defiler) who gave me some direction on building a shopping cart.
Unfortunately, I wasn''t able to successfully get to where I need to go. This
is the predicament I am currently finding myself in:
I''m building a shopping cart for a client''s new website. They

Which version of Ruby for Rails 2.0.2?
I''m using ruby 1.8.6 p111. But some people seem to think that version
1.8.5 is better. Should I give it a whirl?

How do I set the default value for date fields?
I want my date fields to default to NIL or "", because the presence of a
date means something. My problem is that rails is defaulting the fields
to today''s date automatically when I create a new record through the
scaffold. I tried removing the default ''0000-00-00'' and changing NOT
NULL to NULL, but both columns get today''s date as the default
