Checking URL with open-uri
Hi, I allow posting videos to youtube in my app. But before I let them save into the DB I want to, at least, know that the users put a link to youtube and that the link is working. How can I do those verifications with open-uri? Tried but got some errors... Thanks. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message

liboggz: use ogg_int64_t instead of C99 int64_t for the benefit of you-can-guess-who

ActiveResource & HTTP proxy
Hi, Do you know if there is any way to configure HTTP proxy connection in ActiveResource? I''m testing the youtube-model plugin (http://github.com/edgarjs/youtube-model), which uses ActiveResource, and actually noticed that all requests get stuck in the ActiveResource::Connection.http method which uses Net::HTTP (and not Net::HTTP:Proxy). Thanks for your help -- Posted via

How does facebook’s Share a link feature work?
I wanted to implement that feature in a Rails application I''m buidling. A user posts a url, and voila, he gets a better representation for that url. I already dealt with a similar feature before where the requirement was to replace a given url with the page''s title and favicon. Facebook go beyond that and if it''s youtube it gives you an embed object and so on. I asked

Can LLVM emit machine code faster with no optimization passes?
Hello, Recently Jonathan Blow posted a short screencast discussing build time of his compiler with when no optimizations are run on the user's code. Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLk4eiGUic8 Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIjGYbol0O4 He discusses what parts are taking the longest to compile, and the ultimately shows this: http://i.imgur.com/BkbKcJK.png ...which shows that

Video from the CentOS Dojo at CERN now available
The videos from the recent #CentOSDojo at #CERN are now available on the CentOS YouTube channel. If you have time for only one, be sure to watch the first video, which talks about the challenges that CERN has with the enormous amount of data they produce every day in the LHC. Also recommended, Fabian's discussion of the coming (and already in place!) changes to the CentOS Git infrastructure.

Is it only me or are the talks not public on YouTube. When I open the link, it says "Private Video" for every entry in the playlist.
