Disk errors on CentOS 5 - libata bug?
I just installed CentOS 5 on a computer. On boot, I get the a error message,
related to 2 SATA disks. These errors did NOT appear on version 4.4 with the

Despite the error messages, the disks seem to be working with no problems.

Slow performance
Hi folks.
I'm posting this to both the Fedora as well as the CentOS lists in
hopes that somewhere, someone can help me figure out what's going on. I
have a dual Xeon 3GHz server that's performing rather slow when it comes
to disk activities.
The machine is configured with a single 160 GiB OS drive (with
CentOS 5.0) and 4x500 GiB drives setup in a RAID-5 configuration.

Xen 4.1.1 HVM guest cdrom trouble, lost interrupts, ata failed commands (frozen)
Hello,
I was testing Fedora 16 (rc2) Xen host, with included Xen 4.1.1 rpms
and Linux 3.1.0 dom0 kernel. Fedora 16 PV domUs seem to work nicely.
I noticed a problem with Fedora 16 Xen HVM guests though.
The F16 guest kernel (Linux 3.1.0) fails with the qemu-dm emulated DVD-ROM drive..
Full HVM guest kernel dmesg attached to this email.
See the end of this email for Xen cfgfile for the

IO error after s2ram resume; device stays open
dmesg output after a resume from a suspend.
the device in question was /dev/sdb mounted on /home. after a device
failure to resume properly, the link is then reset by the kernel but
comes back as /dev/sde. /dev/sdb disappeared entirely, and is now
referred to as sde.
attempted to remount rw of sde, seemed to succeed, mount/mtab said
that it was rw now but i couldn''t write to the volume

Hello,
We have recently purchased two Supermicro servers, AS-1021M-T2RB
(http://www.supermicro.com/Aplus/system/1U/1021/AS-1021M-T2RV.cfm), and
have built them both with CentOS 5 operating system. They are identical,
apart from the manufacturer of the disk drives.
Kernel is: Linux version 2.6.18-8.1.6.el5

CentOS 5 + Nforce 4 SLI Intel SATA problems
I've been having an extremely hard time using the on board SATA
controller on my nvidia based board. I have two 160gig Maxtor SATA
drives attached to the on board controller, setup as software raid0. The
problem is the array is extremely unreliable, where I'm getting constant
I/O errors like:
sd 0:0:0:0: SCSI error: return code = 0x00040000
end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector

hw question: asus dsbf-de sata ports?
Hello List,
I'm hoping someone else out there has an Asus DSBF-DE server board,
and can tell me if anything special needs to be done to get ports 5
and 6 of the onboard SATA to work under Centos 5.1 x64.
I have drives on 1 through 4 that are detected and working properly,
however, a drive on 5 is not detected, from what i can tell, the
kernel doesn't even see phy's for ports 5 and 6.

Server offline :-( please help to repair software RAID
Hello,
since weeks I was ignoring this warning at my CentOS 5.6/64 bit machine -
/etc/cron.weekly/99-raid-check:
WARNING: mismatch_cnt is not 0 on /dev/md0
in the hope that the software RAID will slowly repair itself.
I also had executed "echo 100000 > /proc/sys/dev/raid/speed_limit_max"
on the advice from the mailing list.
But now my web server is offline - I had to boot

hardware issues? driver issues?
Got a bunch of servers from Penguin. Supermicro m/b's H8QG6. We put a 3tb
drive in for additional workspace for the users, and some of them won't
read, others will go for weeks, then spit out DRDY errors. lshw shows the
controller as an ATI SB7x0/SB8x0/SB9x0 SATA.
I did notice that it shows

Problem booting hypervisor on Lenovo T400 Core2 Duo P8600
Hi,
I have a problem booting the Xen hypervisor on my brand new Lenovo
Thinkpad T400 2765D2G (Core2 Duo P8600 CPU, 2.40GHz. 4GB RAM). I''m
running Debian 5.0 (Lenny) and I use the Debian-provided
xen-hypervisor-3.2-1-amd64 package. The Dom0 kernel seems to be the Xen
patches ported to a 2.6.26 kernel: linux-image-2.6.26-1-xen-amd64
I can boot the hypervisor only very unrealiably: Out of

Hello,
yesterday night I had a problem with
my server located at a hoster (strato.de).
I couldn't ssh to it and over the remote serial console
I saw "out of memory" errors (sorry, don't have the text).
Then I had reinstall CentOS 5.5/64 bit + all my setup (2h work),
because I have a contract with a social network and

CentOS 6.4 installation fails with message "No usable disks have been found"
Hi folks,
I inherited a very old computer (I guess about 8 years old) which I'd
like to use for some training on CentOS. I downloaded images for CentOS
6.4 i386 (DVD 1 and 2) and burned them onto discs. After inserting DVD 1
into drive and booting, on the "Welcome to CentOS 6.4!" screen I select
"Install or upgrade an existing system". I then skip the media test and

Xen 4.0.0 - dom0_mem differs from dom0''s memory
Hello,
I just upgraded from Xen-3.3.1 to Xen-4.0.0.
System is Gentoo, Hardware is DualCore AMD Athlon, 8GB RAM.
The kernel was upgraded from OpenSUSE 2.6.27.29-0.1.1 to Gentoo-2.6.32-xen-
r1.
The first boot failed with an OOM error during kernel/initrd load, so I
adjusted the dom0_mem option and had to increase it''s avalue from 256M to at
least 400M until the dom0 could boot.

Hi Hui,
thanks for playing with the latest versions. Surprisingly, I can
reproduce even by hotplugging a DIMM instead as well - that's good, so
it's not related to virtio-mem, lol. Seems to be some QEMU setup issue
with older machine types.
Can you switch to a newer qemu machine version,
