To PAE or not to PAE...
Hi, I was wondering if anyone would know the cons of running a PAE kernel...? I have a 4GB pc and was wondering if it was worth going the PAE way to gain those exta 700MB... In the past, I heard that these 700MB were normally reserved for bios or chipset stuff... And that running in PAE would slow down some processes. By the way, I know 64 bits would solve this dilemn but right now I am

CENTOS 4.7 or 5.2 32 bits O.S. for ORACLE DB server??
we plan to setup our ORACLE database server (32 bits DB) and use dell r900 server. This server can put up to 128GB RAM. We are thinking use 32 bits CENTOS 4.7 or 5.2. My concern about CENTOS 5.2 is it only support up to 16 GB RAM on 32 bits O.S. Any suggestion? ______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Oracle and kernel 2.6 vs 2.4 performance question
All, We're currently running Oracle 9i on a RHEL AS 2.1 installation. We need to upgrade to Oracle 10g, and I've half-way convinced my boss to upgrade to RHEL 4 (we're still discussing AS vs ES, since we're running 2 HT processors...). Anyway, I want to upgrade because of EOL issues whenever RHEL 5 comes out, but before he okays me wiping the server and installing 4, he

PXELINUX LocalBoot 0 fail; hunting for bug
Recently, I decided to pull out a new model laptop for testing related to my job at work. Dell Latitiude E6400, BIOS A14. Normally I have it set to boot CD, USB, Net, then HDD and noticed that with PXELINUX-4.02 and 'LOCALBOOT 0', it hung on me before leaving the PXE stack. I then tried 3.86 and it worked. 4.00 and 4.01 both hung when I tested them as well. Changing to 'LOCALBOOT

A program under WINE claims I don't have enough memory
I'm running Origin 7 Server (a scientific data & graph editing software) under Ubuntu 9.10. Installation was fine and I can read files and edit them, but as I try to save the simplest thing (which takes less than a MB) the program claims I have no disk space (I do have more than 10GB free). I have a 64GB solid-state hard drive on my Dell E6400 laptop. This problem persists no matter where

(semi-) rugged laptop running CentOS 5?
We're looking for a laptop to run in a 10,000', cold, occasionally wet environment, and it needs to run CentOS 5. Perhaps something like the Dell Latitude E6400 ATG? There's a reference to a minor trackball bug for the 6400 under CentOS 5 (http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=4192) but otherwise it sounds like the x86_64 version should run on it. Ideally the system would use a SSD too.

[PATCH][git-pull] memdisk/dskprobe.c
git://git.zytor.com/users/genec/syslinux.git Branch memdiskdbg-for-sha0 This starts with adding another check in two of the disk probes (by Shao; Thank you), expands the debug output, adds an additional check in the third probe and expands/reorders the debug output. At this time, it appears to resolve the MEMDISK issues that Jason Vasquez first noticed. The additional check in the third probe

MEMDISK issues and Dell OptiPlex and Latitude systems
Hello all. Again I call upon the greats of this mailing list to help me with an issue related to MEMDISK - notably when paired with various Dell OptiPlex and Latitude systems. The issue presented itself sometime ago and I best dealt with it by remaining with version 3.83 of the SYSLINUX package. But valuing the improved changes fostered by newer versions, I would prefer to move forward with
