find_by_contents not returning SearchResults?
The acts_as_ferret documentation says find_by_content returns an instance of SearchResults, but I see this error when I try to use the results. undefined method `total_hits'' for []:Array Here is the link to the documentation: http://projects.jkraemer.net/acts_as_ferret/rdoc/classes/FerretMixin/Acts/ARFerret/ClassMethods.html#M000010 But here is the actual code: result =

Problems using acts_as_ferret
Hi all, I''m trying to use acts_as_ferret and have run into a brick wall. My model is Page My controller is Pages_controller. When in console, I can search for contents, and find results. For example, when I search for "spam" it "finds" 7 results. => #<FerretMixin::Acts::ARFerret::SearchResults:0x2693934 @total_hits=7, @results=[]> you can do a

undefined method `add''
We''ve been running into problems with ferret indexing lately. The problem is intermittent and some times it persists. Just got this after wiping the index and redeploying: NoMethodError (undefined method `add'' for Solution:Class): (druby://10.1.65.87:9009) /data/releases/20071111152414/vendor/rails/activerecord/lib/active_record/base.rb:1238:in `method_missing''

Update/Create record only if field is true
I have a sellable flag in my database. I''m trying to have ferret only add/update records where sellable == true. What is the best way to do this? I''ve tried editing instance_methods.rb in the AAF, but I still can''t get it to work. Thanks for the help -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

disabling automatic indexing in acts_as_ferret
I''d like to be able to enable/disable the automatic indexing of documents acts_as_ferret does. Something like MyModel.disable_indexing MyModel.enable_indexing would be perfect. I need this because I do some indexing that requires visiting the parents of the model objects and my import method imports the children first, so the information isn''t there yet. I''d like to

how to update index from a script
Hello all, I''m using AAF right now to index my ~3million db records. However, any additions to these records are added to the database through an external script so the aaf activerecord hooks will not catch any updates. Since new records are only added rarely, I figured I could just add the new records manually in ferret from some type of script. I''ve been looking at the

respond_to? in acts_as_ferret results
acts_as_ferret''s search results use #method_missing to forward method calls to the underlying result object. However, those methods are represented in #respond_to? Here''s a simple fix for that: module FerretMixin module Acts module ARFerret class SearchResults def respond_to?(name) self.methods.include?(name) || @results.respond_to?(name)

how to index the result of any instance method
Hi, One of the AAF features is to be able to index results of methods, but I haven''t seen anywhere how to do this. I have a method that returns the full text of a file and I''d like for this to be indexed. Can anyone out there help me out on this one? Tom -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Updating Index Is Very Slow
Hi, I am experiencing very poor performance when updating my index. For example, to update the index for 10 documents, it is taking 3 to 4 seconds. My index is currently very small... with probably less than 100 docs in it. I have created my index as follows: GIFT_INDEX = Index::Index.new(:path => "#{index_dir}/gift", :key => ''id'', :auto_flush => true)

acts_as_ferret with existing data (Building an index?)
Hi, I''m trying to get the acts_as_ferret plugin to work with my rails application, but it barfs with this error: No such file or directory - ./index/development/Book/segments I have existing data in my database, but it was added prior to me using the ferret plugin. How do I get it to index that data, or when does it index that data? Charlie -- Posted via

acts_as_ferret: case insensitive search
How can I index and search RoR model objects in a case insensitive manner? In Ferret there is the LowerCaseFilter (http://ferret.davebalmain.com/api/classes/Ferret/Analysis/LowerCaseFilter.html). How can I utilize it and other filters with acts_as_ferret? -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

How do you use acts_as_ferret without rails?
I am currently using activerecord without rails and I''d like to use the acts_as_ferret plugin as it works well with activerecord. How do I take advantage of the acts_as_ferret without rails installed? Is this possible? If someone could provide me with direction on how this would be done, that would be greatly appreciated. I assume that since active record works without rails that all

Strange indexing issues with CachedModel, STI, and AAF
I started using robotcoop''s CachedModel class in my project but have encountered problems when using it with the acts_as_ferret plugin. It seems it doesn''t index everything in my STI model, also if I do a search from my base STI class I get a result count but no results. If I run the same search from one of the children STI models I get the appropriate results (if the information

Do delegates work properly in Drb mode?
Hi folks, I have several models that index well in Drb mode. However, I have one scenario where it works in normal mode, but not in Drb mode. model A field :one end model B belongs_to :a field :two delegate :one, :to => :a acts_as_ferret :fields => { :one => {}, :two => {} }, :remote => true end If I leave off the :remote parameter, it works. Ferret slow after a while
I''m building a new index from scratch based on a number of documents stored in a database loaded using my Rails env (using Ruby Ferret 0.9x (installed today with Gem) on Windows). preventing indexing of an acts_as_ferret''d model?
Hi, this is hopefully an easy one, but I''ve gone through the api and searched past forum entries, and am drawing a blank. I have a model that with acts_as_ferret mixed in to it, which is working fine. But I want users to be able to set a ''private'' attribute on the model, and when it''s set to true, create and update methods would skip indexing. So, how can I
