Problems with ./scripts/generate scaffold
Hi all, I''m new to rails after having used perl for most of these things, and am trying to get my head around the generate script for a project playing around with. If I do: ./scripts/generate controller Device I get app/controllers/device_controller.rb where I can then add: scaffold :device However, if I want to actually generate the scaffolding so I can make some changes:

Date Validation: The February 31st Problem
Hi Railers, I''m wondering if anyone has found a nice solution to the problem of validating dates to prevent things like 29th February 2005, or 31st September and so on? I see it was discussed before... http://wrath.rubyonrails.org/pipermail/rails/2005-March/003804.html ...but with no particularly ideal solution... http://wrath.rubyonrails.org/pipermail/rails/2005-March/003815.html

Pluralized Controller Names?
If I do: script/generate controller Photo I get a controller named photo_controller. OTOH, if I do: script/generate scaffold Photo I get a controller named photos_controller. (Note that the controller name is pluralized). I realize that I''m specifying the controller name explicitly in the first case, but it seems odd to me that the scaffold command generates a pluralized

Formatting axis label numbers on plots
Is there any way to control the format of the axis label numbers on a plot? More specifically, I have some plots that get axes with label numbers in exponential format, and I'd like to change that to non-exponential. Thanks!! -- M. test for bimodality
Dear R users, I'm looking for a test of bimodality in order to make some decisions about how to procede with an analysis algorithm. I have not come across any such tests in my readings and discussions apart from the Rao which appears to be applicable to cyclic data. The data I'm interested in characterizing as uni- or bimodal are frequency x amplitude spectra of consonant speech sounds,

Different results for tan(pi/2) and tanpi(1/2)
The same argument would hold for tan(pi/2). I don't say the result 'NaN' is wrong, but I thought, tan(pi*x) and tanpi(x) should give the same result. HELP!! Serious memory leak in my rails app!!
I''m having a huge memory leak problem with a rails application I''m developing! I first noticed that when running under webrick (via script/server) there was a fast memory leak.. several users using the app for a few hours would use 2 gig of memory!!! I searched the archives and found that some users found that it could be avoided by saying --daemon when launching webrick..

Which mysql for a new project?
Hi all, I am about to start a new RoR project. Which version of mysql is the current best one to use? I will be using the soon-to-be-released RoR 1.0 for the project. I really don''t want to start a PostreSQL vs. MySQL vs. Whatever war. I have all databases including Oracle at my disposal. This project will be my testbed for using RoR with mysql. I will be doing other tests with other dbs

fun/flamebait: Java Web Devel Stacks
I''ll pose a question partly for fun, partly out of interest to see what everyone else is doing to survive the pain of the day job. It''s for the professional J2EE developer converts out there. Let''s say someone hired you to write a Basecamp clone, but it has to be done in Java, say on the Tomcat or JBoss platform. What does your stack look like now that you''ve
