Central list of Rails gems?
Is there a centralized list of Rails gems somewhere? Or even just a database of some kind of gems that can be useful to Rails apps, not just specific to Rails? -raymond -- Raymond Brigleb, Creative Director Needmore Designs -- The beautiful, usable web. Addressing a class, rather than an id?
Good day, I''m trying to use the slider control to resize a pile of images on a web page. Clever, huh. Bet cha didn''t think of that one!!! :) But seriously. It seems I want to address a class, rather than the individual id''s of the images. At this point, I''m getting some results with something like this:

file_column: patched for imagemagick and validation
Hi all, I patched file_column to add imagemagick transformations of uploaded content. I added an options hash, and it takes the :magick and :format keys. :magick is a string of imagemagick command line options for convert (Reference: http://www.imagemagick.org/script/convert.php). Format is an optional extension for the finished image. If Imagemagick recognizes the extension, then it will

rsync help
Hi, I am using rsync to backup from my server to a backup server that has been setup. I can back up a directory with numerous files and folders and restore them but I have not learned how to "exclude" a specific folder from the rsync backup that runs via cron nightly. I have tried these: rsync -av -cache/ -e ssh /home/httpd/vhosts/domain.com/httpdocs/ name at

Fuzzy searching
Hi, everyone, Just wondering if someone had come up with a good way to do fuzzy searches if you use MySQL as your database (we tried switching to PostgreSQL, but that ended up adding even more problems). Ferret sounds great, but reading through the discussion it looks like we need to solve the problem of write conflicts. I just wrote a post in ruby-talk about using KirbyBase maybe to solve

Urgent help needed
Hi, I''m on Apache 2.0.54, Linux Fedora Core 2 with Plesk. I installed a Rails application previously on the box using SCGI and it works fine; even now. I''m trying to get a second app online and it fails. Same config, except for the SCGI runner ports of course. It looks like the error comes from the fact that the mod_rewrite loops. WHY ??? BTW : I have to put this app

Lighttpd Conf Help - Multiple Domains Multiple Apps
Hi Guys, I hope someone can help me out. I am trying to configure two applications to run on lighttpd and each app will have its own domain. My machine is running on Fedora. When I run my lighttpd with the following conf file, I get no error but when I check out my app, it dishes out a 404 error- the 404 being served isn''t the 404 inside the railsapp/public folder. Do hope someone

Premature end of script headers: dispatch.cgi
Hi I am running ruby 1.8.4 and rails 1.0.0 with Apache 2. I made a simple rails application called demo and also created a controller called say and an action called hello which is working fine using webrick. To run it under Apache I created a symlink demo1 which is linked to the demo/public directory. If I run it using www.example.com/demo1 then I get the "Rails- Welcome Aboard"

Public Directory not accessible
Been trying to deploy my rails app on Redhat ES3, Apache2, FastCGI with Plesk all day. Fun stuff. Basically, the issue that I can not solve has to do with access to /public. None of my images, javascripts, etc. are working in the app. Trying to access any of these results in a 404 (or routing error if in developer mode). Oddly, the 404 file it displays is -- you guessed it -- in fact *in*

Apache/FastCGI still in development mode?
I''m running rails on RedHat ES3 managed by Plesk with Apache/FastCGI. I''ve followed the directions here: http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/pages/HowtoInstallAndRunRubyOnRailsOnPlesk And got everything working, but my application refuses to run in Production mode. It runs in development mode despite the fact that I''ve set: FastCgiServer

find troubles
Hey guys, Sorry not sure what's wrong with this statement. I've tried a few variations of trying to exclude the /var/www directory. XML "Un-Builder?"
I''ve been unserializing XML in PHP with the XML_Serializer class, and I''m wondering if anyone knows of such a class for Ruby. Nothing fancy, just perhaps a simple way of converting arbitrary XML to a Ruby object. Maybe this has been implemented somewhere already? Thanks, Raymond

Apache not running Fcgid
I''m having the same problems as this fellow, Mr. Cheetham, in getting my rails app up and running on apache2+fcgid. Webrick runs, but dispatch.fcgi never actually runs, and apache spits out a grusome "Premature end of script headers: dispatch.cgi" error message in the log. Subfolders in Rails applications (newbie)
After about a week playing with Rails, I have built a couple of apps but am still unable to get one thing to work: subfolders. (I am probably using the wrong term here, but oh well...) I would like my rails application to have controllers logically grouped into folders. So for instance: http://domain.com/accounting/accounts http://domain.com/hr/employees Here''s how I have tried to

Domain setup w/ RoR & Plesk
Hi all. I have Rails installed on a dedicated virtual server that''s running Plesk. I''ve been told by my hosting service that removing or altering Plesk''s default domain root folder (httpdocs) is likely to muck things up. So what''s my best option for setting up rails apps, given that I can''t create them as the domain root?

Trying to build ices-0.4 on ubuntu and "libshout not usable"
Hello: I hope someone can take a look at this and give me a little push to get me past this logjam. I've been running icecast + ices-0.4 + a perl application developed internally which runs an mp3 stream for a number of years. I am migrating my server from CentOS to ubuntu so I can upgrade to Perl 5.18 (so as to get clean unicode processing for another application.) I have installed
