FYI: watch out for google's web accelerator - can empty your app of data
Hi All, A co-worker passed this info on to me: http://37signals.com/svn/archives2/google_web_accelerator_hey_not_so_fast_an_alert_for_web_app_designers.php The Skinny: Google has a "Web Accelerator" that pre-caches pages by following url''s. If you have any plain/simple URL''s that don''t take paramaters (like what often happens in rails apps), it will try to

Sqlite3 test fails in Rails app
Greetings: I am using Sqlite3 database with my Rails app. When I try and run "rake tests" for the app it always fails with the error: ** Invoke default (first_time) ** Invoke test (first_time) ** Execute test ** Invoke test:units (first_time) ** Invoke db:test:prepare (first_time) ** Invoke environment (first_time) ** Execute environment ** Execute db:test:prepare ** Invoke

Instiki 0.11.0 - ActiveRecord Forever
Dear all, If you thought Instiki was a dead project, you were right. Since I''ve got a day job that doesn''t suck (Official Ruby Zealot of ThoughtWorks Canada), my motivation to do open source greatly sufferred :) But... but... but! Here is Instiki 0.11.0, and in this version Instiki is (finally!) moving to ActiveRecord backend and (finally!) has the File Upload feature.

Routing: How do I use what is left from an URL
Hi, I have this scenario. I have the full path of a page stored in the database (column ''path''). I want to be able to have very short urls for retrieving the pages, so i have this route in my map map.connect ''-/:title'', :controller => ''page'', :action => ''view_by_title'', :title => nil so when I go to

Instiki @ O''Reilly ETech 2005
Hi all, Sorry if I should be posting this elsewhere--I couldn''t find an Instiki specific mailing list, but the Instiki site is down. I wanted to mention that my friend Tim Lauer and I are going to be doing a short "high order bit" talk at the O''Reilly Emerging Technologies conference, describing a particular use of Instiki which we came up with:

ActiveRecord help needed
Hello, my name is Magnus and I am a RoR-newbie. I am trying to get the grip of ActiveRecord but I am having trouble to find good examples. I have been looking at this: http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/show/AccessControlListExample Where you can find this Model code: require ''active_record'' class Permission < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :roles end

in-memory SQLite for testing
I am following the rails book, and arrived to the section about testing. The test database is configured as: test: adapter: sqlite3 database: ":memory:" and I get this error with the simple product test: % ruby test/unit/product_test.rb Loaded suite test/unit/product_test Started E/usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/sqlite3-ruby-1.1.0/lib/sqlite3/ errors.rb:94:in

Rollbacks, Sqlite3 bug
Okay - so the sqlite bug reported a day or so ago on the list is real bug. I''m going to file something in the tracker for that... I also learned that before(:all)...after(:all) is not wrapped in a transaction, the way before(:each)...after(:each) is. Is there some reason behind this? Can you not wrap transactions inside transactions? Scott

Rollbacks, Sqlite3 bug. Has this been reintroduced ?
Hey, I just updated from the edge and it looks like this _issue_ has resurfaced. Yesterday things were working (stories and specs). No code base changes, only rspec and rspec_on_rails After updating today I now need to set <config.txn...fixtures> to false in the spec_helper.rb to get the specs running, the stories are fine. Looks like the fixture loading is trying to start a txn. I

textilize/markdown/sanitize for messageboards, oh my!
Hullo, fellow Railsers! (warning: this isn''t a 100% Rails specific question, but I guess it very much applies to what a lot of us are currently doing.) For a project that involves messageboard functionality I''m looking for a good way of sanitizing user input, so the silly fools, err, my wonderful users don''t mess things up too much. I''ve played around with

Leaky Webrick (?) & image corruption
Hi guys, After a few days of webrick seeming to use up a ton of ram (the longer it was running, the more ram); izayoi on #rubyonrails kindly suggested changing Dependencies.mechanism in development.rb to :require which appears to have fixed the prob - at the expense of having to restart webrick after making changes to .rb files. Is this a known issue, or is there an alternative solution?

rforum engine
Here''s a question for those well-versed in rforum or engines -- or both, ideally :) I''ve spent some time today turning RForum into an engine, using rails 1.0, engines trunk, and rforum 0.1 (as rforum trunk didn''t appear to work out of the box). My rforum engine works, but only when I do two things that I found by trial and error: 1) All rforum controllers subclass

mysql vs postgres
I''ve used mysql for quite some time now. Other than crashing when the partition gets full, I''ve had no problems with it. But I''ve heard great things about postgres and have seen some people say it''s much superior to mysql. So, with a Rails application, is there any reason why I would want to learn/use another DB besides mysql? Any pragmatic benefits?

Rails without a db - how to run tests
I''m writing a simple app that doesn''t need to use a database. I added :active_record to the config.frameworks -= line in environment.rb file. This lets me run ./script/generate fine without complaining about no connection. However if I try to run a functional test, it complains about no connection being established. Well...I don''t want a connection to be established.
