Multi-databases support
Hi,
While I was hacking ovirt-server, I have found that it's currently
restricted to Postgres DB. Even if I like postgres for serious work on a
server, I really prefer to hack/dev locally on a Sqlite or MySQL DB.
I have googled on rails in order to find a good answer for the "foreign
key problem" which forces OVirt to stay on pg. I have found a plugin on

Enum patch for Rails
Hello!
I''ve modified ActiveRecord a bit to support enum columns. This is tested
only with MySQL, and maybe needs some changes for other adapters (if
they use another syntax or quoting style).
I believe this patch should be tested well, so I haven''t (yet) tried to
post it to the official Trac. It is also not solid-as-a-rock when it
comes to quoting ENUM values.

ActiveRecord 2.1 Migration support
Hi all,
I am in the process of adding Migration support to the Ingres
ActiveRecord adapter and have run in to a problem. During the call to
create_table the Ingres adapter some how causes ruby to blow the stack
and coredump/segv. I have tracked down the problem down to
"add_column_options!" in
"lib/active_record/connection_adapters/abstract/schema_statements.rb".

strange frozen string problem starting rails
hi,
I am experiencing a very strange problem with my Rails installation. I''m
using ruby 1.8.6 on Debian Linux, with edge rails.
Whenever I try to start mongrel, I get an exception about "can''t modify
frozen string". I get a similar exception when I try to do "rake
db:migrate". In this case, the exception seems to pop up *after* the
migrations do succesfully

ActiveRecord attributes -- strange behavior when adding Array to an element
Hi,
I have a database table and associated ActiveRecord model. I was
trying to store (temporarily) an array in one of the attribute
elements - not to save it, but just so that I can keep some form data
in a sensible place. A stripped down version of the problem I''m having
is:
p = Property.new(:bedroom_count => ["2","3"])
puts p.inspect # ==> will correctly show

validates_format_of before type_cast?
Often I need to do a one-off validation before Rails has had a chance to
convert. For example, a date. Is there a general mechanism to cause
validations to run on the raw input or do I have to resort to:
private
def validate
unless attributes_before_type_cast[''date_of_loss''] =~
/^(\d+(-|\/)){2}\d{4}/
errors.add(''date_of_loss'', ''use the

float calculation error
Hi
I have the following values
pActualCost = 33.00
pPaymentCost = 29.99
So this calculation should leave me with 0.01
pPaymentDifference = pActualCost - pPaymentCost
however when doing this in rails, it returns 0.00999999999999801
has anyone got any suggestions to whats going wrong and how I can
correct this
Thanks
Scott

R CMD check [nlme|MASS] fails (PR#431)
Mmmh, seems as if I really should change my options as I seem to keep
sending off empty bug-reports ;-/ Sorry guys. Here is the content
that should have been in the last e-mail:
`R CMD check nlme' fails on my machine. The final output in
nlme-Ex.Rout is:

Where to override ActiveRecord::ConnectionAdapters::SQLServerAdapter?
I''m working on an existing global database running on MS SQL Server.
The appropriate primary key is uniqueidentifier, so I want to set
ActiveRecord::ConnectionAdapters::SQLServerAdapter#native_database_types[:primary_key]
= "uniqueidentifier NOT NULL newid() PRIMARY KEY".
Obviously, I need to override the native_database_types definition,
but I really don''t know where

ActiveRecord::ConnectionAdapters::Column value_to_boolean(value) does not return a boolean value.
value_to_boolean(value), does not always return a boolean value, only
when true.

If value is contained in TRUE_VALUES then it returns true(TrueClass).

Issue in ActiveRecord generated reader methods
Hi all!
I have come into a strange issue in Rails that I am hoping someone
can shed some light.
To make a very long story short, I have been researching how to
override ActiveRecord::Base#read_attribute and write_attribute to
perform security checks at the model level (influenced by the
ModelSecurity generator). Shortly after implementing some code to
check this behavior, I began to

slightly OT - Ruby division
Hey all,
In my code, it seems that when I divide two integers, the result is an
integer. Is there any way to make it such that when I divide two integers,
the result is a double?
Any help appreciated,
Jin

rails ignoring the migration file
I have a mysql database that I am trying to use migrations on. The
problem that I am having is that when I create a blob field in my
migration file like so:
t.column "data", :binary, :limit => 15.megabytes, :null => false
rails changes it to this in the schema:
t.column "data", :binary, :default => "", :null => false
not only is this not what I wanted
