db:fixtures:load order
I was trying to deal with foreign key issues related to order of
fixture loading when I came across this:
http://techpolesen.blogspot.com/2007/04/rails-fixture-tips.html
This got me looking deeper into rails and I noticed that
db:fixtures:load calls Fixtures.create_fixtures once for each fixture
file. However, Fixtures.create_fixtures is capable of taking multiple
files and also handle the

[ANN/RFC] Rathole, a fixtures extension plugin
Like lots of other folks, I''ve been searching for a way to scratch my
fixture itches. Rathole is my extraction of a few techniques we''ve
successfully applied at my day job.
We''ve been using Rathole for a month or so now, but I''d really like
some feedback from a wider audience. Rathole tackles:

Creating performance test fixtures from development db? How?
Hi all!
I''m looking into the testing chapter of Agile Web Development With Rails
(2nd ed.).
I want to performance test my app, but I''m too lazy to write fixtures for
performance test.
I''d rather use the data from my development db (because the data is so close
to the production data).
How do I get the data into the test db without writing fixtures?
Could you please

Rails'' fixtures suck! But what about something like this?
Sorry about the very long email, but this is a hairy topic that''s been
annoying me for some time and I decided to try to do something about.
Also, if you got this twice, I apologize too, but it didn''t seem to
have successfully gone out the first time.

binary info in test fixtures?
Hi all,
I have a shopping application I am testing, and one of the models is an
Order model, within which a credit card number is encrypted and stored
in the db (mysql) as a BLOB field. When trying to run my unit tests, I
cannot get my model fixtures to load the encrypted data.
If, in my dynamic fixture (YAML) file, I could have access to my app''s
models, the problem would be trivial..

load fixtures
I''m finally getting beyond using basic test fixtures, and a few questions
have popped up. Has anyone found ways to do these?
1. Use a test fixture that is named differently from its table name? We''d like
to have more than one possible fixture per table. (Or perhaps use test fixtures
named similarly but in different directories.)
2. Load a test fixture for one test method only

STI and fixtures
Hi all !
Loading fixtures doens''t seems to associate my 2 objects, do know what''s
wrong ?
In app/

:foreign_key => :reports_to
end
class Employee < Person
belongs_to :manager,
:foreign_key => ''reports_to''

Odd fixtures behaviour
This is Rails 2.0.2
I have two yaml fixture files, both loading into ARs with acts_as_tree,
so they both have the !!omap directive set.
One, categories.yml, loads just fine. The other goes very weird, somehow
fixtures.rb opens the file, reads "name: All" from the first record, and
then tries to open a file called "All", which then fails miserably on
line .
I can''t

Test fixture syntax
OK, I know I''m doing something bone-headed, but I can''t for the life of
me figure it out.
I''ve read the test fixtures Rdoc about eight dozen times, and it says
(to me) that if I have a YAML fixture file, dogs.yml that looks like
this:
fido:
id: 1
breed: Terrier
fifi:
id: 2
breed: Poodle
Then I can include
fixtures :dogs
in my functional test, and

fixture problem, TypeError: nil is not a symbol
When I run rake against Rails 8.5 to test unaltered model tests with
yaml fixtures I get the error and stack trace reproduced below for every
one of my model objects. Has anyone seen something this before? Any idea
what could be going on here?
The following ruby-talk thread may or may not be relevant:

Fixtures and Relationships
In my daily development, I migrate back and forth between versions, and
often do: rake load_fixtures...
... in order to populate my development database with fun data.
Now, with any HABTM relationship, there are failures, as there is no way to
say "which" fixtures to load first.
Within an actual functional or unit test case, you could simply load them in
the proper order, but

Plugin w/ Migrations and/or Fixtures?
I''m working on a plugin which needs to add both schema and data to the app
database, and I''m trying to figure out the best way to do it. I''d like to use a
db migration to modify the schema and load the data from a YAML fixture, but
Rails doesn''t seem to support migrations for plugins. To do so, the schema_info
table would need to change to include a

New Foxy Fixtures (Rails 2) & STI (Single Table Inheritance)
I''ve got some problems right now using the new model for relationships
in fixtures (by label, not by id) and STI. What I''ve got, is a couple
of models:
Attachment
--> FileDownload
Version
Version has_one file_download with file_download_id on the versions
table
In my fixtures, I have two FileDownloads in my attachments.yml like
so:
hemingway_alpha_zip:

set_table_name and fixtures
Hello, I''ve encountered a fixtures really frustrating bug : model, YAML
file and db table names must be the same because of the fixture library
ignoring the set_table_name provided in the model.
Is there anything to do ?
Thanks

rake db:fixtures:load FIXTURES=xyz
I am attempting to do selective fixture loading against my test
database.
When I run
rake db:fixtures:load FIXTURES=DataSetInfo
I get no output. (A full trace is below). I''m trying to figure out why
nothing happens.
1) Does the command above attempt to operate against my test database?
2) DataSetInfo is the name of my table and the name of my yml file
I generated these YAML

Rspec not loading fixtures
I am taking over a code base and am trying to run the tests. I am
somewhat new to RSpec so this might be a trivial problem.
Basically I can tell that the fixtures are not getting loaded. All 100
tests fail with a similar error.
But I don''t know why. Below is the code, with my narrative with ***
before it... Can you see anything or give me a clue where to look. So

rspec fixtures stay in the test db - is this right?
I have some fixtures set up to put a few records in some of my tables.
In some of my rspec describe blocks, i''m *not* calling the fixtures, and
expecting the tables to be empty. But they''re not - the fixture data is
in there.
Am i using fixtures wrongly? I thought that the db was wiped at the
start of every test and the fixtures were only added if asked for. Is
that not the

[REL] Manage Fixtures 2.0.0
Just released a new version of the _Managed Fixtures_ plugin, previously
known as _Export Fixtures_.
The name change comes with some added functionality for managing the
fixtures, primarily with two new import tasks for importing specific Models
or all of them within the test/fixtures directory.
Both new import tasks take the exported fixtures, and allow you to directly
import one, or all of

Using a lib in YAML fixtures
I''m using the runt library [1] to do some temporal expression
matching. I want to keep the expression in a binary field in my db.
I figured that then in order to do the fixtures, I''d need to do some
erb in the yaml file. So I came up with this:
onetime:
id: 1
name: One Time
description: This event occurs only one time.
timex: <%= REYear.new(7) & REMonth.new(24)

Should I Test My Fixtures?
I have a number of fixtures in my test suite. For example, with
acts_as_authenticated and acts_as_state_machine, I created a number of
users in different account states for use in functional testing.
(Suspended users can not log in, etc)
Is it a good idea to run fixtures through tests to ensure that they
conform to their ideals?
EG: assert users(:suspended_user).suspended?
If so, where should
