Mini-PC box to run server
On the cheap side, the ITX or even MicroATX machines work great. These are commodity items, so they tend to be far less expensive than custom solutions. Various manufacturers, but we've had very good success with any of the AOpen MicroATX boards and their slimline MicroATX case: Aluminum: http://usa.aopen.com/products/housing/A340-series.htm Steel:

APC Smart UPS at a Mac Mini
Hi, I'm using a APC Smart UPS with a Mac Mini, connected using a USB serial converter. Works fine so far, the Mac Mini will be shut down, a NAS connected of the network to the nut on Mac Mini will also shut down, perfect. However, the ups will not be shut down. Very unfortunate, since the Mac will not start again, if the power comes back before the batteries are completely empty. I read

Mac Mini and chan_bluetooth, has anyone told The o if it works?
I googled on this for about an hour and the most relevant hit I got was, of course, the first hit: http://www.sowerbutts.com/linux-mac-mini/#support In it, he indicates that the stock Bluetooth module "should work, but untested" - he doesn't qualify the statement with anything. Has anyone tried chan_bluetooth or even the Bluz stack on a Mini or a G5? If so, under Linux or OSX?

Rails Development on a Mac Mini?
How many people out there are doing Rails development on a Mac Mini? I''ve been eyeing up the MacBook as well as the new MacMini trying to decide if I want to splurge. I''ve been doing very little Rails development thus far which makes the investment a little hard to justify. The Free Mini Mac ( http://minimacs.freepay.com/?r=16778073) offer seems like the best route but

Hello List, first let remind the question and the answers: http://www.networkupstools.org/docs/FAQ.html#_my_powermac_g4_won_8217_t_power_back_up_by_itself_into_linux_after_the_ups_shuts_down_what_can_i_do_about_this As a matter of fact my box is not a `Power Mac G4' but a `mac mini server' (macmini4,1), and it is Linux Debian box (Squeeze): the main issue is that the box does not boot

Fatal: Unknown scheme: SHA512-CRYPT. On a Mac-mini
Running postfix+dovecot+mysql on a mac-mini, and trying to solve this puzzle. Is this a Mac issue?, a MySQL issue? or something I haven't configured in? You can see from the output of the samples shows in the first case, that SHA512-CRYPT seems to be Unknown. The code I used is from a Linux based tutorial on setting up Postfix+Dovecot+MySQL on a site. Everything is generally going ok, apart

[OT] linux on a PPC (mac mini)
Besides the other linux distros mentioned, you have another more retro type choice http://www.macworld.com/article/2363177/macs/turn-your-g4-era-mac-into-a-next-gen-amiga.html On Tue, Sep 15, 2015 at 2:29 AM, wwp <subscript at free.fr> wrote: > Hello there, > > > complete off-topic, sorry about this, but my former idea was to install > a CentOS on an old mac mini (PPC!).

[OT] linux on a PPC (mac mini)
Hello there, complete off-topic, sorry about this, but my former idea was to install a CentOS on an old mac mini (PPC!). Disappointed to see that PowerPC is not a supported architecture and that non ARM or Intel architecture are not managed by recent distros.. :-(. Searching the web, I see very few possibilities to install a recent (I need gnome2) GNU/Linux distro on such hardware. I gave Linux

If it had two (or more) network ports, I'd be all over it. A single gigabit nic is a bit limiting for me. Hey, A bit out of topic but I am looking for a micro server/pc if anyone knows a descent one... I found many nice NAS but I would like to have full access to the OS (install CentOS, etc). Dream one would be - Very quiet (fanless) since it will sit in my bedroom. - Headless - Small. - 2/3 HDs (2.5" are ok) for RAID1 (hardware RAID would be nice, and with BBC even more).- 1 or 2 GB NICs -
