ad-hoc query
How do you run an ad-hoc query that does not belong in any model? I
thought it was something like ActiveRecord::connection.find("my
query..."), but I can''t seem to find the documentation on it. I know
I''ve seen it somewhere before, though.
thanks,
Jeff

find_by_sql without a model? how to do this?
Hi,
I''d like to do a "find_by_sql" without a model (e.g. <model
name>.find_by_sql("...")) as the results I get back are a once off special,
and I''m happy to handle them as an array. How do I do this?
"ActiveRecord::Base.find_by_sql(...)" does not seem to work?
Background - At the moment I''m doing within a model <model_name>,

question on large send offload
Does the data for a large send offload have to occupy more than one
page? In tuning the windows drivers, if I set the minimum mss multiple
before considering offload (a windows variable) to 2, then I seem to get
hangs. If I set it to 4 then everything appears to be okay.
If the mss is 1460 (normal for Ethernet), then 2 * 1460 = 2920, which
will often fit into one page, in which case the ring

ActiveRecord row-by-row processing
I want to use ActiveRecord outside of Rails to do processing on large
tables. I want to be able to process the rows as they are retrieved
rather than having to store the results in an intermediate array.
Any suggestions?
Looks like I could hack the adapter to provide an accessor to the
underlying DBI handle. Anything cleaner than that?

issues/workarounds to build dovecot on OSX
hi all,
a few notes/issues re: building dovecot on OSX.
first, after DL of cvs-head,
% autogen.sh
reports:
autogen.sh: line 2: libtoolize: command not found
o OSX, 'libtoolize' has been sed'd to glibtoolize.
couple of ways to deal with this:
(a) edit in autogen.sh
aclocal
--- libtoolize --force
+++ glibtoolize --force
automake --add-missing
autoheader
autoconf

R-alpha: Re unified shell script
Some time ago there was the suggestion to add a PLATFORM subdir level
for bin (and eventually the library subdirs with `binaries'), and the
idea to have the shell wrapper automagically call the right binary.
I mentioned that one might be able to use the shell variables OSTYPE and
HOSTTYPE for that, noticing however that e.g on my Debian Linux/GNU/ix86
bash tcsh
OSTYPE Linux linux

DG/UX R4.20MU03
Has anyone had any experience with ssh and DG/UX? I tried the ./configure and
it could not determine the hosttype. After that problem was worked-arounded I
get a LOT of warnings about declaring functions multiple times and then the
compile fails with:

[PATCH] isatty(): use TCGETS instead of TIOCGPGRP, like dietlibc does
Does ctrl+c work?
My experience with (non klibc) init=/bin/bash is that getting ctrl+c
to work requires some jumping through hoops, because running as pid 1
doesn't really work.
If I recall correctly you have to call setsid, and open a tty as a
controlling tty, you can't call setsid as pid 1.
The hack that I got to work (for reference, I'm using this for raw
kernel testing

Sortable list with Ajax and delete function - working example
Hi.
I read most of the postings here but unfortunately I didin''t found a complete example which could be used. Of cource the ones who are professionals in javascript could implement the missing peaces from the puzzle.
What I''m required to do is a tree (sortable list) where items can also be deleted and at each modification a function (ajax) is called to save the changes. For

Bug ID: 26222 - SMB Storm
Please include the following to bug ID: 26222 at:

More checking shows that closing a search window on
Windows in the middle of it's search doesn't stop the
SMB activity. Network utilization remains high, and it
seems as if the server is stuck searching.
In an attempt to verify, I created a share on Win2k,
and followed the same procedure:

tomcat still sees jvm version 1.4.2 in Cent OS 5
i chose to install tomcat during the OS install as well as java....however, since I needed to use a different jvm, i used the method described in http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/JavaOnCentOS for Sun jdk 1.5.0_13 and it worked fine as I can tell, as using the alternatives --config java command, i see both 1.4.2 and 1.5.0 versions and choosing the 1.5.0 version yields the right version when doing a

[PATCH RFC] xen-netback: remove guest RX path dependence on MAX_SKB_FRAGS
This dependence is undesirable and logically incorrect.
It''s undesirable because Xen network protocol should not depend on a
OS-specific constant.
It''s incorrect because the ring slots required doesn''t correspond to the
number of frags a SKB has (consider compound page frags).
This patch removes this dependence by correctly counting the ring slots
required.

problem with Rmpi 0.5-5 and openmpi
Dear knowledgeable experts :-),
I am trying to get openmpi, Rmpi and SNOW running on a Myrinet/GM
cluster. I'm not an IT expert, but I surely could use a working
installation of Rmpi and SNOW.
I try to load the Rmpi library and get the following:
