samba-tool samba3upgrade question
Hi everyone, I'm looking into using this tool for migration to samba4, however I'm unable to determine if it requires any intervention on the domain members like ADMT does? After looking into the source code I see that the domain SID remains the same. Does this mean that the members (WinXP & 7) will continue to function properly? Will they start using AD membership functionality

Virtual appliance - initial setup
Dear everyone, I'm creating a virtual appliance based on CentOS 6.3 that will be packaged as OVF. Is anyone aware of an existing solution for post-deployment configuration (hostname, network settings and root password as a minimum) other than editing config files by hand - I'd like the process to be more user friendly than that if possible. Ideally it should be

Users from trusted domains get "Your Password expires today" in 3.4.3
Hello everyone! We've got a Samba domain that trusts another Samba domain and a Windows Server 2008 domain. We recently upgraded both Samba DCs from 3.0.x to 3.4.3 After that, whenever a user logs on a workstation in the trusting domain with an account from one of the trusted domains, he gets this message: Your Password expires today. Do you want to change it? Of course, the password

Samba & Squid NTLM Auth
Hi I'm using Samba/Winbind(ntlm_auth) to handle NTLM requests from a Squid proxy. Everything works fine with local PDC mode and also in domain member mode. There is only one thing which isn't very nice for end-users. If you try to surf over the authenticated proxy with a Windows client which is not member of the domain, the browser (problem only occurs with IE) will use hostname as

Novell Client forces password change, Ver. 3.5.2. and LDAP
Dear all, we have a strange behavior using Samba (Verson 3.5.2) as PDC with Open LDAP (Version 2.1.22) as backend and an old Novell-Client (version: 4.91 SP5) running on WinXP (SP3 and higher). The old PDC (Version 3.0.28) was running over years with the same LDAP-Server as backend and with Novell installed on the clients. We decided to migrate to Samba 3.5.2 , updated all the LDAP schemas

future modprobe.conf
centos 5 had modprobe.conf entries for eth0 and if present eth1. something like: alias eth0 forcedeth alias eth1 e1000e For the new centos 6 (I have the rhel 6 client installed on my laptop) the modprobe.conf file is gone. Which is fine. I understand files can be created in /etc/modprobe.d and server the same purpose. My question is I dont see (doing a grep) any eth0 alias's in the files in

Winbind Samba 3.5.1
Somehow I can't figure out what's going wrong. I have a Samba server running as PDC. Workstations can join the domain and users can logon. So far so good. I need winbind to be able to authorize a radius server to the PDC. This I cannot achieve. If someone got give me a clue, I spend already quiet some time Google the net :( Thanks, Mark # wibinfo -u root markr # wbinfo -a

Win98 client can't connect after Samba upgrade
Hi All, I was running Samba 2.2 as a PDC for a small office server for several years. Hardware was getting old enough I finally bit the bullet and upgraded to Samba 3.3.4 on FreeBSD 7.2 and a new box. The smbpasswd file and all that stuff was copied from the old box. Clients are Win2000 and XP Professional, and for the most part were back up and connected, practically unaware of the switch

how to install standard software on systems with heterogeneous hardware?
I've been thinking about ways to proceed if I need to set up 5 machines with basically identical software but somewhat variable hardware. A simple approach would be to just set up my golden system and clone the disk, but the hardware differences would probably cause problems. One approach that appeals to me is to install minimal centos on the first system, add a few rpms after installation,

samba with ldap PDC cannot join my windows to domain?
Hi people. I have been working with samba+ldap = PDC in my test netwwork. I had follow the good tutorial: Samba By Example, chapter 5, I had done all the test the book say and no issues. I have 2 issues: 1; I cannot see my domain at my windows browser. 2; I cannot add my windows xp pro to my domain. I have been trying to see if I could find the solution but nothing yet, there is the

Assistance request
Hi Samba team, first I want to appologize for this spam, you probably get tons of such messages per day. However I am desparate and sick of digging into newsgroups, mailing lists and everything else ;)) Since 1 year I am trying to find a way to make samba receive winpopup messages from Windows 2000, or Xp, using the "net send" command. Receiving messages from other linux machines

DHT translator problem
Hello, I am trying to configure a volume using DHT, however after I mount it, the mount point looks rather strange and when I try to do 'ls' on it I get: ls: /mnt/gtest: Stale NFS file handle I can create files and dirs in the mount point, I can list them but I cant list the mount point itself. Example: the folume is mounted on /mnt/gtest [root at storage2]# ls -l /mnt/ ?---------

Updated Kernel sensors modules
Last week I upgraded my box to CentOS 6 and I'm very impressed so far with it. The only small issue so far is that it doesn't seem to recognize the new Sandy Bridge Core i5 CPU that I have and you can't monitor its temperature. I recompiled the latest coretemp module from the latest 2.6.39 kernel and the latest lm_sensors version however this still wasn't enough as the new module

Ferret Wiki Spam - Solutions Anyone?
Hi All, As some of you may have noticed, the Ferret Wiki has been getting spammed like crazy. And I haven''t been able to do anything about it because I just don''t have the time. I''m getting pretty close to releasing 0.10.0 which has been the major draw on my time for the last couple of months so I''m going to have some time to look into this soon. I was

template homedir and idmap_ad
Some empirical testing shows that if I am using the idmap_ad module the template homedir parameter in smb.conf is ignored. I would just like to determine if this is the correct behaviour or if I am doing something wrong. JAB. -- Jonathan A. Buzzard Email: jonathan (at) buzzard.me.uk Fife, United Kingdom.

SAMBA bringing NFS server to a halt

Solaris 11 ZFS - acl_xattr still needed ?
Dear list, Setup is: Solaris 11 ZFS + Samba 3.5.10 What is the recommended way nowadays of performing strict permissions mapping between Samba and Windows NT 6.1 ? And a more broader question: is it desirable ? As we know ZFS has native NFSv4 ACL's and this would mean that permissions applied on Windows side should have an exact match on the ZFS side. Is it acl_xattr module still needed ?
