I believe the link to the described exploit is here. http://secunia.com/advisories/13239 The defacement braggen page is here filter to show the exploited FreeBSD machines that aneurysm.inc

Samba and Visual C++
I've just tried to install MS Visual C++ 6.0 on our Samba 2.0.5a Linux Server. When I was asked for the installation directory I tried to use a samba-share that was mounted on a network drive letter. Just after this the setup programm refused the path as incorrect. Now the question: Is it impossible to install the VC6 package server based? I don't wan't to install this big package on

RichEdit and Dlls
Hello All, I have an app that I wrote a few years ago with Delphi 5 and one of its components is a RichEdit. That's the only thing that does not work when running it with WIne. I've got the latest build for SuSE 8, version 20020804 and it does not work as well. I know Wine has richedit.dll as part of it but would I have to install MFCs dlls or anyother dll to enable it to run. Thank you,

New FreeBSD Security Officer
Hello Everyone! It has been my pleasure and privilege to serve as the FreeBSD Security Officer for the past 3+ years. With the crucial support of the FreeBSD Security Team members, a lot has been accomplished: hundreds of security issues have been researched and tracked, with some resulting in security advisories and patches; software in the Ports Collection are updated more quickly

Various Ogg Vorbis largefile notes and/or patches
Greetings one and all; I'm not subscribed to this list so I'm first sending this message to verify that mails from me make it through, and then later I'll send the juicy messages with patches. Also, the address I'm using is IPv6-only and doesn't often work, so drop me from any replies and I'll catch the archives, or drop only the hostname part to get an IPv4 address that

IPsec, VPN and FreeBSD
Hi: We intend to build IPSec based VPN server on FreeBSD platform so that we can access internal network of a lab. The remote side will use VPN client and could be from anywhere of the Internet, or may be from the another site of the company. From the hnadbook, I saw the sample of site-to-site configurations and we do have one FreeBSD firewall (running ipfw) on both site and another one on

ogg123 and Vorbis piped to stdin
Moin, Two questions I have. Actually, the first isn't so much a question. It seems that `ogg123' is not able to play streams from stdin, at least not for me on FreeBSD. It also seems that with the patches way down below, it can play from stdin for me -- I handle stdin like http-transport and return the same values for seeking and the like, to avoid calls that fail, and so it works,

One final minor trivial insignificant pointless patch
[this address is IPv6-only, and usually doesn't work, so don't.] There's another patch I have up my sleeve, that it would be nice if I didn't need to apply it by hand. Look: vorbis-tools/oggenc/encode.c --- encode.c-DIST Fri Jul 19 08:35:48 2002 +++ encode.c Fri Jan 9 07:46:27 2004 @@ -346,7 +342,7 @@ seconds = (int)(remain_time - (double)((int)remain_time/60)*60);

Is there any way to know if userland is patched?
Dear folks, I'm recently investigating large scale deployment and upgrading FreeBSD RELEASE. It's our tradition to bump "RELEASE-pN" after a security patch is applied, however, it seems that there is less method to determine whether the userland is patched, which is somewhat important for large site managements. So is "uname -sr" the only way to differencate the

Patch: ogg123 playing >2GB sized files
[Apologies -- I've been offline for over a month, and so haven't sent this patch in a timely manner. Also, I'm still not up-to- speed and do not yet have the latest source downloaded, so this patch might be unnecessary anyway. And the list archives appear to not be updated since I started sending patches, so I haven't seen any feedback yet, if any. As usual, don't reply to

Bug in ogg123 playback of OggFLAC files?
[I'm not online regularly, so don't include me in any replies. And I'm not sure if the vorbis or the flac list, or something else, is more suitable for the following, so bear with me] Moin, moin. I used a recent ogg123 to play back a FLAC file I had created, and saw it wasn't able to seek within the file. So, I thought to myself, why not try out an OggFLAC file, so I created

7.x and multiple IPs in jails
Hello all, I've been searching around and have come up with no current discussions on this issue. I'll keep it brief: In 7.0 or 7.1 is there any provision to have multiple IP addresses in a jail? I'm stumped on this, as I just started a new hosting project that needs a few jails. At least one of those requires multiple IPs, which is something I never really even realized was

Security Officer-supported branches update
The FreeBSD Security Officer would normally be sending out this email, but he's a bit busy right now and it is clear from reactions to FreeBSD Security Advisory FreeBSD-SA-04:04.tcp that many people are unaware of the current status of the RELENG_5_1 branch, so I'm going to send out this reminder myself. The branches supported by the FreeBSD Security Officer have been updated to reflect

Status of MFC security event audit support in RELENG_6?
A few weeks back Robert Watson announced the merge of these features from 7 back into 6-STABLE. I hadn't seen any updates and was curious as to the status. Us 6-STABLE users are curious to test it out. Thanks. --A
