I have a new machine I'm trying to install Centos 5.0 on and I'm not getting very far. The system is 2 dual core xeons (5160, 3.0 GHZ) w/ 8GB ram. It has two 320 GB disks on the motherboard controller (Supermicro X7DAE+), and 8 750 GB disks on a 3ware 9650SE-8ml, pcie (x4) controller card. I have used the package-cleanup utility to remove old kernel packages, but I noticed that it only removes the 'kernel' and 'kernel-devel' packages. It does not touch 'kernel-smp', 'kernel-hugemem', etc. What is the recommended method of cleaning up these other kernel packages? Should I just 'yum remove' the ones I don't need? ok - I tried this too. But CentOS tries to find the floppy as /dev/hda which is not the device for the USB-Floppy. Dell ships one with the server because no one is integrated. 1) I'm actually not building a custom kernel per se, just one from the standard 2.6.11.4 with our configuration. I may be adding a custom driver, but unless I can get the standard kernel to boot,... 2) I have been told that after 2.6.11.4, support for the Infiniband driver is dropped, and we need that.
