uninitialized constant ActiveSupport::Cache (NameError)
Hi
After having updated some GEMS I get `load_missing_constant'':
uninitialized constant ActiveSupport::Cache (NameError) on starting
the server of a freshly generated rails project.
Before, I already had Rails 2.3.2 projects succesfully running, now
all of them generate this error.
These are my GEMS:

Encoding issue: is it Rails 2?
Hi,
I recently upgraded from Rails 1.2.6 to Rails 2.0.2 and an application
which used to correctly display European characters from an Oracle
database (Win-1252) now screws them up.
I previously had to convert from Win-1252 to UTF-8 for generating ODT
files (OpenOffice) via Documatic. But I never had to do any conversion
just to display the content in my Flex front-end.
Has anything changed in

Errno::EBADF (Bad file descriptor)
I posted this to the discussion forum on rubyforge.org, but it appears that
it would have been better to post here.
Does anyone have any advice on how to resolve the problem reported at
http://rubyforge.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=6284&group_id=1306&atid=5145?
Thanks,

schema_info always wants to be 3, even when set to 7
Hi all,
I''m having a very odd problem with db:migrate. I''m using Rails 1.2.5
on Windows XP SP2 and Ruby 1.8.6
I have seven migrations. If I run them with an empty database, it
runs the first three, then halts. When I look in schema_info, the
version is 3.
If I run db:migrate VERSION=7, then it runs through the remaining 4
migrations, and the version is 7 in the DB.

could not find activerecord-sqlserver-adapter locally or in a repository
I''m trying to connect to a SQL Server db. I thought I installed the
DBI component per the instructions, but its not working.
When trying to start the ruby server, I get the message:
Please install the sqlserver adapter: `gem install activerecord-
sqlserver-adapter`
But when I try to install the repository, I get this error message:

how to use set_primary_key?
We are trying to use set_primary_key to cause an existing rails db to
use a different primary key. This works find for accessing existing
data, but gives an error when we try to add a new record, as it seems
to still be accessing the record by the default id field at that
point. Are there other changes we need to make to get an alternate
primary key working?
Thanks,
Ken

using log4r and rails
hey everyone. i know somebody else had started a thread on this subject,
but since no one seems to be answering that thread i thought i would
start one of my one.
i''m doing a project for a client and we need some seriously verbose
logging. it looks like log4r can do what i need, but i can''t for the
life of me figure out how to plug it into rails. everywhere talks about

log4r and rails
Hey there folks. I would really like to use log4r as my default logger
in Rails, but I''m having a hard time getting it to work. I''m not even
sure I''m plugging it in in the right place. I''m using log4r 1.0.5 and
rails 1.1.1.
I would love it if someone could either point me to a good tutorial on
how to use log4r with rails, or at least point me in the right

Initializing log4r once
I have a problem init''ing log4r. I have the following initialization
code for log4r:
Configurator[''logpath''] = ''./config'' # was ''./logs''
Configurator.load_xml_file(''config/log4r_config.xml'')
I put it in appliction.rb, but then ofcourse at every request the logger
system will be reinitialized. This causes the

There must be a better way to do this
I made this rather cool plot which I am quite pleased with:
http://brainimaging.waisman.wisc.edu/~perlman/data/BeeswarmLinesDemo.pdf
However, I feel there must be a better way to do it than what I did. I'm attaching the code to create it, which downloads the data by http so it should run for you if you have the current version of beeswarm installed (which was just updated today,

problems unpacking log4r
I was just starting to use log4r and everything was going peachy until I
tired to unpack it into my local vendor/gems. The next time I tried to
load my rails environment, I got:
config.gem: Unpacked gem log4r-1.1.2 in vendor/gems has no specification
file. Run ''rake gems:refresh_specs'' to fix this
and:
no such file to load -- log4r
So - I dutifully tried running rake

A masked function is a masked function by any other name
Dear all,
It looks like I do not grasp the concept of masked functions enough as
to solve this trivial problem.
The code that replicates the problem (a source code tree that realizes
a R package actually) is under github so one can call it clone it
easily from the command line (though more experienced users will spot
the problem by browsing through the package code):
git clone http://jcborras at

deployment survey
Hello Mongrels,
Building on the last messages about Fastthread, can we get a detailed
survey of the different ways people are deploying their applications?
It will help with near-future Mongrel development.
Please include the following things:
* Framework, if any (Camping, Merb, Rails, Nitro, Ramaze, IOWA, Rack...)
* Mongrel version
* Mongrel handlers used (rails, dirhandler, camping,

Hook into Exception Chain
Hi there,
I''m using Log4r in my rails projects. On log.error an email is sent using
the EmailOutputter.
I know changed the EmailOutputter to include a global var in the subject
(MDC) since the subject is normally static.
I want to set this var to the exception message, so it is sent as the
subject.
Can anyone tell me how to do this in rails?
Basically:
raise e or some other cause
