winbind: idmap_rid - no user mapping
Hello, I've some trouble with winbind and the idmap_rid feature in an ADS environment. (Opteron with Debian 3.1pure64, official Samba/Winbind packet 3.0.14a) Without "idmap backend = idmap_rid:...." in the smb.conf a "getent passwd" works fine. Then I delete the /var/lib/samba/*.tdb-files, activate idmap_rid in smb.conf (see below) and join the ADS-Domain once more -

New ADS infrastructure with winbind - Which is the best ID-mapping: IDMAP_RID or IDMAP LDAP with ADS + SFU schema ?
A question for the best winbind SID-UID/GID mapping in our situation: I'm building a new infrastructure with Windows 2003SP1 ADS Domaincontrollers and some Debian Servers (File: Samba+NFS; Mail; Web; ....) and varios XP and Debian Clients. After reading Chapter 12. (Identity Mapping) in the Samba-HOWTO is IDMAP_RID in couple with winbind an easy way to solve the problem with syncr.

UID/GID mapping consistency across at least two Linux machines
I have two SAMBA machines they both successfully joined to the same Active Directory (actually SAMBA 4) I have copied the user files from *server 1* to *server 2* /owner id/ and /group id/s are preserved. on server 1, when is do: *id user1* I get *2001* but on server 2 the same user has different id. This is actual for groups as well i.e different id's. *smb.conf*s are identical --

configs
I'm seeing very long delays the first time winbind accesses the network. See: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=496569 I've tried lots of things, down to stripping the config to a bare minimum for ADS security and even killing ipv6 support on the box. Nothing has resolved this. Does anyone see anything obviously wrong with this configuration that might cause a very long

IDMAP_RID with Winbind works for groups but not users
Hi, I've setup samba 3.4.7 to use idmap_rid as per the documentation: idmap backend = rid:DOMAIN=500-100000000 idmap gid = 500-100000000 imap uid = 500-100000000 It seems to work for groups: wbinfo --group-info="domain admins" domain admins:x:100512 PsGetSid v1.43 - Translates SIDs to names and vice versa Copyright (C) 1999-2006 Mark Russinovich Sysinternals -

idmap problem
Hi, I configured a SaMBa PDC and a BDC with a master and a slave OpenLDAP. I set up TLS, because I wanted secure syncrepl. Slapd runs with -h ldap:// 127.0.0.1/ ldaps.///. I successfully joined an XP client to the servers' domain, I see shares (but I havent logged in as a domain user, because I have to create a default profile first). My problem is in the log.winbindd-idmap log file:

Kerberos and 2008 AD troubles
I've been trying to get Kerberos to work for the last couple of days so that we can use SSO. I can't seem to get past a roadblock and Google doesn't seem to provide any answers. I've got Samba connected to the AD and running. I can wbinfo everything and can login to the machine using PAM with the pam_winbind modules just fine. I can get user tickets just fine. When I try to get ssh

Technical problems with samba 3.5.11 and access 97 .mdb
Hello everybody, I'm having trouble with samba 3.5.11 and an access 97 database. I work in a business with 5 users that use a mdb database over samba, and for the first to make a query everything works fine, but if some other user tries to make a query when the first one is doing it, the database works really slow, like if the .mdb file is being blocked (that's what I suppose). IDMAP question
I have a Samba 3.4.0 server (from Ubuntu 9.04), as a member server in my Win2003 AD (which has MS Services for Unix 3.5 installed). All seems well, in that it is properly joined to my AD, I've got it all configured so that domain members can log into the Linux servers using their domain credentials. Here's my config: # WINBIND # idmap domains = DACRIB idmap config

Winbind can do everything besides lookup by name
Hi, I have winbind joined to a Win2003 AD domain with rid idmap backend. Almost everything's working. wbinfo -u and -g work fine, as does getent passwd and getent group. I can also getent by ID number. The only thing I can't do is getent by name, which is preventing logins: root@services2:/etc/pam.d# net ads testjoin Join is OK root@services2:/etc/pam.d# getent passwd | grep david.croft

Samba 3.6.5, idmap configuration and WBC_ERR_DOMAIN_NOT_FOUND
Hello all, I recently upgraded from Samba 3.5.6 (the version contained in Debian Stable) to Samba 3.6.5 (the version from Debian Backports) in an effort to closer track the current development to try and chase some long standing bugs out. I think I've resolved one problem but introduced another. I'm getting the "WBC_ERR_DOMAIN_NOT_FOUND" when I try to perform a SID to UID

"Idmap uid range missing" - 3.0.0beta2-1 on Debian Sarge
Hi there-- I'm using Debian testing ("Sarge") and recently upgraded to 3.0.0beta2-1 from 2.2. It broke, and I've been pulling my hair our trying to get it working again. I've gone to a Samba HowTo troubleshooting guide: http://hr.uoregon.edu/davidrl/samba/samba-diagnose.html and gotten successfully through test #4 (NetBIOS Name Resolution) but can't get anything on

Problems using multiple Samba servers in a Win2003 AD domain
I've been at this for days, and making no headway. It's very discouraging. I have a Win2003 domain, that has the Services for Unix extensions installed. I am trying to have multiple Samba servers as domain members. (in my case, one desktop sharing files, and one laptop, accessing the shares). And at the moment, it doesn't (fully) work. Each Samba server can see shares from the other.

How to support idmap_rid on Fedora Core 3?- RESOLVED
Resolved: I was not able to compile then make install and have work so I ended up using the FC3 packages and adding only the freshly compiled idmap_rid module. Thanks for the help. samba and idmap_rid panic
Sigh, Someday i will get samba to work on aix. Now I rebuild samba because I discovered that you needed to request it to build idmap_rid.so or it will not make it. After the rebuild I moved over the smb.conf again and net ads joined again. When I try to start samba, however, it panics with this information: smb_register_idmap: Successfully added idmap backend 'tdb' [2006/02/07

idmap config DOMAIN Not Wroking
So, after reading many samba setup pages I was under the impression that “properly” configuring idmap for an AD domain should look something like this security = ADS idmap config * : backend = tdb idmap config * : range = 10000-50000 # DOMAIN realm = DOMAIN.COM<http://DOMAIN.COM> workgroup = DOMAIN idmap config DOMAIN:backend = ad
