Virtual Users and permission denied on POP3 Authentication - cur directory
Hi, I've been working on configuring a new Postfix+Dovecot+Cyrus-SASL +Postgres server to perform multi-domain virtual hosting with non-unix accounts. I believe I have everything working correctly and have tested both the SASL portion and POP authentication through telnet and all works as expected, with one exception. When I authenticate using POP3: # telnet mail.host 110 Trying

virtual isp address, local delivery
I'm trying to understand how to deliver mail to an address locally which is popped from my isps email account. I access and keep these emails backed up on dovecot and use postfix smtp to deliver mail. The problem is that while fetchmail uses dovecot lda directly, postfix can't include my isps domain in its $mydestination because I won't be able to send mail to other users in that

Connection closed by foreign host.
I'm writing this on behalf of someone else... They successfully setup Dovecot, and can login to Dovecot using telnet but as soon as they are logged in, they get the message "Connection closed by foreign host" and are disconnected. The user is a valid Linux user and the mail file exists under /var/mail. They say no errors are written to /var/log/maillog. # telnet localhost 110

multiple auth= statements
I'm new to dovecot and it's configurations. Reading the config file, I have a question regarding having multiple auth= lines in there. Is this some sort of a pass-through or fail-through system of authentications like where if a user is not authenticated using 'pam', then the second method is tried (which might be sql or plain passwd-txt) ? Am I assuming the right thing here ? I

mixture of virtual and plain users
Hi, I have a mail server (postfix/dovecot) running so far with normal local /etc/passwd users for domain example.com. mail_location = maildir:~/Maildir passdb pam { } userdb passwd { } Is it possible to add virtual domains/users to my setup without changing example.com to a virtual domain? I can do the postfix part with http://www.postfix.org/VIRTUAL_README.html#virtual_mailbox but

Postfix and LDAP
Hi Everyone, I thought I'd try asking here before joining the postfix mail list since I'm running postfix on a CentOS 7 box. I want to look up accounts via LDAP (an IPA server also on CentOS 7). I created an "ldap_aliases" file and successfully tested it with the postmap command: I can get the email address for an arbitrary user. But, when I add the very same file to main.cf, I

Virtual Mailboxes redux
I?ve created virtual mailboxes in dovecot, and they show up in various clients, but the folders contain no messages. (I will get an ?empty? folder icon named ?@virtual? and an empty folder icon named ?month? inside it. Is there a way I can verify what dovecot THINKS should be in the virtual folder via doveadm?

dovecot lda and postfix
I do not know if this is a help request to solve a problem but to understand what is going on. I am going to start with the problem description as I see it and we will go from there. I have postfix setup to use dovecot for tls/sasl in addition to its normal imap/pop3 functions. Postfix is also setup to do virtual domains, getting its information from the files valias, vmaps, and vhosts which are

Enforcing Quotas?
I think I inadvertently hijacked another thread when I posted this a couple days ago, so I''ll try again. :) For those who have developed apps that have different levels of account quotas in regards to total file upload space, how are you managing it? Are you keeping track of the total uploaded bytes in an Account model or are you using OS quota mechanisms? Any suggestions would be

Mailscanner and Postfix
I have just followed Johnny Hughes' excellent walk-through on how to install Postfix, MailScanner with ClamAV and Spamassassin and it seems to be running fine during in house testing, but I want to make sure that it behaves itself when it goes live serving about 250 users; I have read comments elsewhere both for and against the use of Mailscanner with Postfix, and when I mentioned the subject

Postfix Query
Hello, Another question!! Was just trying to sort out mail delivery to subdomains. I set up my system so that I have a mail address of tim at subdomain.example.com. I've sorted out Postfix to correctly identify this and pass on to Dovecot for delivery but Dovecot doesn't seem to deliver where I want it to. Ideally I would like to have a structure so that mail is delivered to

enforcing multiple per-mailbox quotas for shared mailboxes
Hi! I'm trying to get quotas for shared mailboxes set up on my server. It's not working, and I fail to understand why. Documentation for setup of this complexity is rather scarce on the web, and the discussions I found either don't directly apply or terminate with "I got it working" but no explanation. Can someone please help? The setup is rather lengthy and complicated, so

dsync with quotas
I have been working on converting people from courier maildir -> dovecot mdbox and during some of the dsync runs I'm seeing the quota_exceeded_message be printed as an Error: dsync(<user>): Error: Can't save message to mailbox INBOX: You are over quota. To avoid losing mail, immediately empty your Trash and Sent folders and \ delete emails with large attachments.

Upgrade Question about mail_location
Hi, I plan on upgrading from 1.1.13 to 1.2.4 using an RPM. I have read the wiki [1] and have a question about the mail_location variable. Currently, in 1.1.13, I use: mail_location = maildir:/var/spool/virtual_mailboxes/%h with virtual mailboxes. However, I am planning to change it to use: home=/var/spool/virtual_mailboxes mail_location = maildir:%h as part of the new configuration. Is

sudo /etc/init.d/dovecot start doesn't work
I've been trying to get dovecot working with postfix with virtual domain setting. I noticed that if I started dovecot with "sudo /usr/sbin/dovecot", everything would work fine. But if I started with "sudo /etc/init.d/dovecot start", I would get the following permission error. I checked "ps -ef | grep dovecot" and didn't find anything different. Sep 29
