"Could not run Puppet::Network::Client::Master" after 0.22.2 upgrade
After upgrading my puppetmaster server to 0.22.2 using David''s src RPM''s for RHEL4 rebuilt for x86_64 i am getting the following error when puppetd attempts a configuration run. Mon Mar 26 10:05:43 EST 2007 Puppet (err): Could not run Puppet::[1]Network::Client::Master: Invalid value ''nil'' for noop When puppetd is started the initial run is

Service ensuring fails on some distro (gentoo) with some packages
Hi I''m having the following problem and tried already several workarounds, as well benp- tried to help me on irc. I copied the ntp modul from DavidS repo and adapted it in the Service part to run as well under openbsd. Which was just adding some binary if openbsd is the operatingsystem. However then I wanted to run it as well on a gentoo system (on centos, debian and openbsd it was

How to conditionally run defines?
Hi all, Is there a (simple) way to add conditionals to a call to a define? What I want is to run a define only if a file (that gets created somewhere along the run of the define) does not exist. In this way I can skip a whole lot of setup work in the define if I know it has already run once before. I would think adding a unless clause would be a elegant solution (and the other conditionals like

Aliases not working in a subclass ?
Hi folks, I''m overriding some resource attribute in a subclass. It seems that specifying a resource by its alias doesn''t work in a subclass. Looks like a bug, no ? === module-classes.pp === class module::base { file {"/tmp/test-module": alias => test-module, content => "module::base", } } class

New Feature: Graphing
Hi all, One of the major new features in the upcoming release is that Puppet now uses a graph library internally to handle resource relationships. The big benefit to all of you is that you can use this library to turn these graphs into images. The trick, right now, is adding --graph when you run puppetd. This creates .dot files, which can then be interpreted by the

Parsechecking in a commit hook
This has been a much-requested feature, and is now a reality (in svn trunk): There is a new option, --ignoreimport, that will (surprisingly) ignore import statements. This is really only useful when using -- parseonly in a commit hook, and note that you''ll have to add the option to --parseonly, none of the puppet executables will add it for you. You should be able to

munin module: manage clients and server''s config
Hello all. Probably this question has already been posed in the context of another software, but I am unable to find it. I would like to implement a module which should manage munin-clients as well as the munin-server. Here is what I am thinking about implementing: - There are two classes: munin::client and munin::server - munin::clients'' configuration will be managed automatically.

Example module for central git repository via http (sort of like a subversion repo) [a bit RFC]
Hi all, I''ve been looking for a good example for how one would build a module, but I couldn''t really find something that I liked, so I went ahead and tried to do it myself. The result is this: a git module (see attachment). Please have a look and comment on it, before I add it to the wiki. I especially want comments on the setup of the module itself, not so much on the git

"server" config option (and cmd-line option) don''t do anything for puppetd?
Hi guys, Unlike what it says in the documentation and the --help output, I can''t seem to get puppetd to use the --server setting. The only way I can get puppetd to work is to include a ''puppet'' alias to the ip of the machine I''m running puppetmasterd on in my hosts file. The strange thing though, is that the logs of my puppetmaster show that it *is* getting

Services on Gentoo Client Systems
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 You folks were so helpful with my last problem I thought I''d try again. Problem restarting client service ssh in client
Hello, I want a simple operation in a puppet node like restarting the ssh service if it was stopped. Re: How to conditionally run defines? (and a question about updating... )
OK, too bad. I could work around it of course by adding ''unless'' and ''creates'' clauses on all the individual parts of the define where appropriate, but I think I''ll just ignore the warnings and overhead for now. It would be cool, though, if something like the ''unless'', ''onlyif'', etc, logic was available for all

Installing a file only if a package is available
Hi, is there a way to make sure a file is installed only if a certain package is installed on the client? e.g. I want to distribute the client key for NX via puppet. However I only want to install these files if package ''freenx'' is installed on the client. I tried adding ''require => package["freenx"]'' but then puppetd complains it

Puppet on windows: File resource problem
Anybody knows what this error, bellow, means, the target file, C:/Splunk/etc/system/local/inputs.conf, does exist. sometimes, if I delete the file, it does actually create it, but never update it if it exists and changed... The resource is defined as:     file { "splunk_inputs":        owner   => SYSTEM,        group => SYSTEM,        mode    => 664,        require =>

still unable to add new nodes?
I updated to 0.22.3-1 from the dlutter repo (CentOS 4.4) and I''m still having trouble adding new nodes as others saw from the previous version, though I believe the error is different now. The procedure I used was: <client> /etc/init.d/puppet once -v <server> /usr/sbin/puppetca --sign nodename <client> /etc/init.d/puppet once -v This used to work for new nodes, now I
