Home directories
I've noticed that a lot of people are using e.g.: mail_location = maildir:/var/vmail/%d/%n Then either they don't have home directory set, or their home directory is the same as the maildir. http://wiki.dovecot.org/VirtualUsers/Home explains all the problems of not separate home and mail directories. Also whenever I try to suggest using a separate home and mail directory, the answer is

http://dovecot.org/releases/2.1/rc/dovecot-2.1.rc1.tar.gz http://dovecot.org/releases/2.1/rc/dovecot-2.1.rc1.tar.gz.sig I'll probably release v2.1.0 pretty soon, unless people report some new bugs. I know v2.1 is already being used to serve mails to tens (or hundreds?) of thousands of users, so it should be pretty stable. Most of the changes since v2.1.beta1 have been for rather small

http://dovecot.org/releases/2.0/dovecot-2.0.10.tar.gz http://dovecot.org/releases/2.0/dovecot-2.0.10.tar.gz.sig I thought it was finally time to make a new v2.0 release. Or probably it was a while ago already, but I've been a bit lazy this year. Maybe it's because this is the first time in last 5 years when all branches of Dovecot have been quite stable and I haven't been stressing on

Smart IMAP proxying with imapc storage
I just committed a very early initial implementation of "imapc" storage backend to v2.1 hg: http://hg.dovecot.org/dovecot-2.1 You can't really do anything except open INBOX and read mails from it, so it's currently only intended for initial testing. It sucks in many ways right now, but I'll be improving it. The idea is that you could set for example: mail_location =

http://dovecot.org/releases/2.1/rc/dovecot-2.1.rc6.tar.gz http://dovecot.org/releases/2.1/rc/dovecot-2.1.rc6.tar.gz.sig I've finally finished all of my email backlog. If you haven't received an answer to some question/bugreport, resend the mail. This is hopefully the last v2.1 RC. If I don't receive any (serious) bug reports about this release in next few days, I'll just change

1.1.alpha2 error in logs
Did a quick-n-dirty install of 1.1.alpha2 on a Fedora Core 6 server... am getting the following message in the maillog, though there seems to be no problem accessing mail. Error seems to be consistent for all users. Running 1.0.3 on the system previously. Aug 8 22:49:26 stage2 dovecot: IMAP(testuser): mkdir(/var/spool/vmail/192.168.0.199/.imap/testuser) failed: Permission denied This is what

2.0/2.1 - different behavior for LIST-EXTENDED
Hi Timo, We are sitting here wondering if this difference in behaviour between dovecot 2.0.17 and 2.1.3 is intended. When you create a folder, subscribe to it and rename it (without changing the subscription) these are the behaviours: For 2.0.17: . list (SUBSCRIBED) "" "*" RETURN (STATUS (MESSAGES)) * LIST (\Subscribed \NonExistent) "." "INBOX.test"
