locking in samba
Hello! I've got into problems with simultaneous access to files on samba server. Two (or more) people from different computers may open the same file and may independently change it (with openoffice, for example). Certainly, this is not the expected behavior. If the file is shared on windows machine, when the first user opens it, he gots RW permission, while the next one(s) may open this

2 Domains on one server (browse.dat location) (3.0.9)
Appologies for double posting this. I managed to add it to the end of an old thread instead of starting a new one, anyone recommend a mail client that shows threads? :) Hi, I'm trying to run 2 domains from the one server. I've got my 2 config files and both servers run, bound to the correct interface if started normally. The problem I have occurs when I try to start both at once.

Printer driver upload from WindowsXP is broken since 3.0alpha22
Recently i've moved to samba 3.0 beta1 and noticed, that drivers for shared printers couldn't be uploaded from WindowsXP GUI any more. After copying files to \\smbserver\print$\W32X86 folders it says something like "Unable to install HP LaserJet 2100 PCL6, Windows2000 or XP, Intel driver. Operation could not be completed". It works OK on samba3.0alpha20, but doesn't work

installation without logging on as administrator
Hello there, I'm quite new to software distribution, so I would like to ask you a question. ;-) Is it posible to install software without logging on as administrator on every machine? If yes, how does it work? Via a Windows service? Via a script that is being run as admin even if a normal user logs on? Thanks! Florian

Recycler problem
Hi folks, I have Samba 3.0.10 with SuSE 9.1 running and a problem with the recycler feature of Samba. Following setup: - User A deletes file F1 in directory D - Samba produces file .recycler/D/F1 - D has permissions -rwx------, F1 has permissions -rwxrw-r-- (owner A) - User B deletes file F2 in directory D - F2 doesn't show up in .recycler/D So all files User B deletes in directory D are

Windows XP profile problems
s there is trick to fully copying an existing local profile over to your new domain profile after you join the Samba domain? I tried the profile copy under System Properties, on the advanced tab and although it completed, I log on and MS office wants to load files from the CD and my start menu seems to be missing the entire left side column. When I look at the size and number of files my

Cannot access samba users from Windows Server 2008 r2 trust
Hi, our setup is Samba 3.3.12 as the Trusted Domain (Domain name: SAMBA) Windows 2008r2 as the Trusting Domain (Domain name: W2008) The trust itself works quite well, users of the SAMBA Domain are able to log into the workstations of the W2008 domain and even roaming profiles are working. However, when I try to configure permissions on a share of the W2008r2 server to users from the SAMBA

%a switch for windows7 und w2008 server?
Hi I have found this switch for seperating profiles in a mixed windows version environment You can also take full advantage of Samba's Variable Substitutions and further separate User's profiles, such as by architecture. Using the directive: * logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U\%a will separate the user's profiles relating to each version of Windows, such as WinXP, WinNT, etc.

migrating from Samba 3 PDC to W2008 AD
Hi all, I already can successfully join Samba 3 (3.3.x) server to AD domain and setup winbind service to see domain users on linux server. The main problem for me is that I want to save all already existing uids and gids on linux server without any change. Firstly, I can map domain user to unix user with "username map" option vova = CORP\vova But this trick doesn't work for

Problem accessing a share on a W2008 server via smbclient
Hi We just installed a W server 2008 server as antivirus server. As this server is heavily underused we created a share to backup files from other servers. This share is easily accessed from XP pro Pc's via \\ipadr\share and giving a user/password name on the W 2008 server. We then try to use it from an open suse 9.3 linux server via smbclient. smbclient //ipadr/share -U user%password

FMSO transfer gone wrong
Hello, I'm currently in the process of updating our Samba environment from 4.3 to 4.11. Looks like I did something wrong. Some pointers would be much appreciated. Since I wanted to migrate from Ubuntu to Debian anyway, I decided to not upgrade in place, but instead create new VMs, join them and then remove the old 4.3 ones. Everything went well until I also wanted to transfer FSMO roles
