Comparing distributions
I am trying to do something in R and would appreciate a push into the right direction. I hope some of you experts can help. I have two distributions obtrained from 10000 datapoints each (about 10000 datapoints each, non-normal with multi-model shape (when eye-balling densities) but other then that I know little about its distribution). When plotting the two distributions together I can see that

Accurate area map projections
Hi, Could any one point me to the projection, and parameters if necessary, that would show each country/continent with it's area accurately refelcted on the plot? E.g. aitoff vs. albers vs. bonne vs. cylequalearea vs. guyou - they don't all look the same to mee but some of the documentations suggests they are equal area? Of course this isn't my field, so I am largely guessing and am

How two compare two matrixes
Dear all I have two 10*10 matrixes and I would like to compare theirs contents. By the word content I mean to check visually (not with any mathematical formulation) how similar are the contents. I also know edit that prints my matrix in the scree but still one edit blocks the prompt to launch a second edit() screen. What is the best way to compare these two matrices? I would like to thank you

Compare two lists, with their sublists that have same structure
Dear all, I would like to ask your help concering two R lists. If I did everything should have the same structure (that means the same number of sublists, and their sublists also the same number of sublists). What would change between the two lists is the contents of each element in the lists. Could you please help me understand how I can do that in R? I would like to thank you in advance for

Sum two Vectors of different length
Dear all, in one part of my code I want to sum two vectors element-wise the problem is that either the 1st vector or the 2nd vector always have one or two less elements example of my problem In TotalVector + (datalist2[[1]]$dataset$Results[[j]]$Results[[time]]$Sweep) :   Länge des längeren Objektes          ist kein Vielfaches der Länge des kürzeren Objektes Browse[1]> str(TotalVector)  int

Error: serialization is too large to store in a raw vector
Dear all, I have quite large code (with lapply and mclapply) and I am getting the following error. Error: serialization is too large to store in a raw vector Is it possible to ask from R to extend the Error messages with more details? I would like to see where this problem exists. making multiple lines using qqplot
Hi Everyone, I want to make 3 lines on the same graph (not as subplots, all in the same window, one on top of each other) and I want them to be quantile-quantile plots (qqplot). Essentially, I am looking for the equivalent of Matlab's "hold on" command to use with qqplot. I know I can use 'points' or 'lines', but these do not give me a qqplot (only appear to work

thick plot lines
Dear People, In a qqplot I am doing, I get lines/points that are very thick. I've tried setting the lwd variable to 0.1, but it doesn't seem to have any effect. Also, I have set the value of lty to dashed, but I still get dots. The command looks like qqplot(cdf.inv(seq(0,1,length=size),theta,pos,len),empmargdistvec(len,theta,pos,size), xlim=c(-theta,theta), ylim=c(-theta,theta),

qqplot
Hi, We could use qqplot to see how two distributions are different from each other. To show better how they are different (departs from the straight line), how is it possible to plot the straight line that goes through them? I am looking for some thing like qqline for qqnorm. I thought of abline but how to determine the slope and intercept? Best wishes, Carol

Simple qqplot question
I am a beginner in R, so please don't step on me if this is too simple. I have two data sets datax and datay for which I created a qqplot qqplot(datax, datay) but now I want a line that indicates the perfect match so that I can see how much the plot diverts from the ideal. This ideal however is not normal, so I think qqnorm and qqline cannot be applied. Perhaps you can help? Ralf

Plot Many Data to same plot
Dear all, I have a function that for a variable number of inputs plots them to the same plot I am doing this quite simply by plot(seq(from=start, to=stop, length.out=np), datalist[[1]]$dataset                                                                  xlim=c(start, stop), ylim=c(0, 1), type="l")

qqplot
Hello, I would like to use qqplot() to compare two experimental distributions. But I do not understand how qqplot() compute quantiles. In fact, quantile() do not return the same results. Thank you for your help. Vincent.

Comparing two pairs of non-normal datasets in R?
Hi all, I'm using R to analyze some research and I'm not sure which test would be appropriate for my data. I was hoping someone here might be able to help. Short version: Evaluate null hypothesis that change A1->A2 is similar to change C1->C2, for continuous, non-normal datasets. Long version: I have two populations A and C. I take a measurement on samples of these

multiple plots with QQplot of PerformanceAnalytics
Hi All, I am trying to plot 4 graphs on to 1 page using layout(...), or par(mfcol = c(...)); with the function QQplot from the package PerformanceAnalytics. The problem is that, no matter what order I use, it only plots 3 graphs on to 1 page and the last QQplot is shunted to the next page. Also, this only happens to the QQplot, i.e. there is no problem with 4 Histograms. set.seed(1033) data

Q-Q Plot for comparing two unequal data sets
Hello All, Would anyone be able to help me understand how R computes a quantile-quantile plot for comparing two data samples with unequal sample sizes? Normally, the procedure should be to rearrange the larger data sample into n equally-spaced parts using interpolation, where n is the sample size of the smaller sample, and then plot the matching data pairs. I tried using different plotting
