Master user creds for proxy stored statically/locally?
I have successfully set up the master user on the destination server (2.0.11) and tests have worked. now I'm working on the proxy Before I had the proxy just forward everything to the backend and had the destination server do the authentication. My authentication is done via LDAP but not really sure how to append the master user and password to the users credentials after authentication is

Doveadm HTTP API and CORS
While toying around with Doveadmin HTTP api I noticed, there is not much hype around it. Let's change that. Doveadmin REST API so to speak provides a web server. When doing /ajax/ requests, modern browsers block that, unless the response comes with a specific CORS header. Here how to work around with a proxy: > # /etc/dovecot/local.conf > doveadm_allowed_commands = fetch >

Dovecot IMAP is broken after upgrade from 2.1.2 to 2.1.3
Hello, I just upgraded my servers from Dovecot 2.1.2 to Dovecot 2.1.3-0~auto+5 by using Debian binaries from "http://xi.rename-it.nl/debian/ stable-auto/dovecot-2.1 main". The config was not touched but now IMAP connections are not possible anymore (LMTP works fine). When I try to connect to a mailbox, the connect fails. Some log entries:

Best way to move mail from one server to another
I?d like to migrate to a new server. I only need to transfer the mail store, have already done the users. I?ve seen different recommendations: IMAP-Sync Rsync Doveadmin backup and dsync What are the pros and cons of each? What would be best for me? I?m thinking that Doveadmin backup is the way to go. Both old and new servers are on same network. New server is running Dovecot 2.3.2.1, old server

2.0/2.1 - different behavior for LIST-EXTENDED
Hi Timo, We are sitting here wondering if this difference in behaviour between dovecot 2.0.17 and 2.1.3 is intended. When you create a folder, subscribe to it and rename it (without changing the subscription) these are the behaviours: For 2.0.17: . list (SUBSCRIBED) "" "*" RETURN (STATUS (MESSAGES)) * LIST (\Subscribed \NonExistent) "." "INBOX.test"

Problems with upgrade 2.0.16 -> 2.1.3
I ran into two issues trying to upgrade our dovecot installation (Solaris 10). 1) Does not compile with OpenSSL 0.9.7 Not a big deal, as I was able to successfully against OpenSSL 0.9.8, but does dovecot require OpenSSL >= 0.9.8 now? libtool: compile: gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I../.. -I../../src/lib -I../../src/lib-test -std=gnu99 -O3 -fomit-frame-pointer -mcpu=ultrasparc -Wall -W

Best way to move mail from one server to another
Thanks Sam Users not using new mail server yet. Both old and new using maildir. Sounds like rsync is the way to go. Thanks for your help. James. Accessing Shared Mailbox, FQDN not appended to user
Hey all long time, I recently upgraded Dovecot from 2.1.15 to 2.2.29.1 on my Debian Wheezy box and thought I'd tackle shared mailboxes. I can grant fine, using SETACL in telnet . SETACL mine vsun at test.domain.com lr . OK Setacl complete (0.596 + 0.000 + 0.595 secs). . GETACL mine * ACL mine vsun at test.domain.com lr edward at test.domain.com lrwstipekxacd However, logging in as vsun at

doveadm + HA
Hi I have two server directors in ring and 5 dovecot servers (2.2.36) IP for IMAP and POP3 is a VIP (keepalived) What is the best solutions to get realy HA for 5 dovecot servers ? Maby corosync+pacemeker ? But this solution is too problematic and hardcore Why I need HA ? Doveadmin is too lazy and doveadm director does not know that one machine broke down and still sends traffic

Doveadm Backup issues
Hi, I'm trying to use doveadm backup but I'm having a few issues. When trying locally: `doveadm backup -D -A maildir:/usr/local/backup` It results that no mailbox is separated by user - all seems to sync on the same folder, messing up with the folder structure of the original maildir. When trying remotely: `doveadm backup -D -A -N ssh -i mykey root at myremotebackup.com:/backup

A namespace error on 2.1rc5
Hello all, I'm not sure if this is a bug. It's probably just an upgrade note. In summary I had no namespace section in my 2.0.17 config. When trying out 2.1rc5 no user could login because of a namespace error. 2.1rc5 adds a default namespace clause which broke my logins (It was noted in the changelog) I seemed to fix it by just putting this in the config file: namespace inbox {

mailutil?
dbox format needs at least two tools: 1. Expunging only marks the message having refcount=0. The actual disk space is freed only after calling a tool pointing to the user's dbox dir. 2. Ability to force index resync/rebuild in case it doesn't figure out itself that there's something wrong. I'm starting to think about building a more generic mailutil tool, maybe something similar

File/folder permission issues in 2.1.3
Hi, I figured out that Dovecot does not honer secondary groups with auth/auth-worker (??), if doing LDAP/TLS stuff. I had to use file system acls to add the user "vmail" to /etc/ssl/private and to the corresponding key file: doveconf -n # 2.1.3: /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf # OS: Linux 2.6.32-40-generic-pae i686 Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS auth_master_user_separator = * auth_mechanisms = plain

French characters from 2.0.x to 2.1.3
Hello Maybe it's a coincidence but it "seems" since I upgrade from 2.0.18 to 2.1.3 that some French characters ( a with accents by example ) are not well displayed anymore using thunderbird and are replaced by a "?" character Thanks for any info

Very High Load on Dovecot 2 and Errors in mail.err.
Hi, I have a DELL PE R610 (32GB RAM 2x Six Core CPU and about 1,4 TB RAID 10) running with 20.000 Mailaccounts behind 2 Dovecot IMAP/POP3 Proxies on a Debian Lenny. The Server was running about 1 year without any problems. 15Min Load was between 0,5 and max 8. No high IOWAIT. CPU Idletime about 98%. But since yesterday morning the Systemload on the Server has been increased over 500. I Think

doveadm quota error output in some cases
I am testing a special setup on one machine where I want to put some local users that get mail locally to /home user directories via postfix transport map local: for historical and practical reasons. Other users are setup as virtual users. The local users are *also* setup as virtual users for dovecot so that I can retrieve the mail via dovecot. I changed the SQL for dovecot user_query, so

Dovecot replication - I'm stuck
Hi, I've been following the wiki document at http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Replication, but I've become stuck. I'm running version 2.1.3 on NetBSD 5.2 (v2.2+ isn't available as a package yet, and compiling my own is well outside my wheelhouse). I have a couple of questions: The wiki page keeps referring to "vmail". Is this a just system user I need to create? Presumably
