Samba audit logging not working as expected
Hi :-) This is cross-posted from Linux Questions where it has not been answered. This Samba configuration does not put anything in /var/log/samba/log.audit as expected. The messages are triplicated into /var/log/{messages,syslog,user.log}. Here is the global section of smb.conf created by testparm smb.conf.source > smb.conf (no error messages) ===== smb.conf begins ===== [global]

OpenSSH and Xauth
Hi... I have tumpled over quite a big problem on my machine. I'm running Debian Potato with OpenSSH-1.2.3 protocol 1.5 installed from the debian packages. When I ssh from any computer (including my own) then I can't get any programs to display X. I have turned ForwardAgent and ForwardX11 on in my ssh_config. When I turn on debugging this is what I get: 17:14 simpsons at lada% ssh -v

Authentication from Vista?
I have a Linux server providing file and print services to a small network of XP systems. The printer and most of the shares are available to all as read-only. One particular share is used by the XP Administrator accounts (mapped to root) to hold XP backup data. This has been working fine for the last couple of years. A new system added to the network runs Vista Home Premium and along with

Re: [Bug 299306] [NEW] Permission denied of usershares statfile in Samba 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.7
This bug report can be closed.... The Problem was an error in mapping user and group ID to the LDAP UID/GID! I have set the right UID/GID in the smb.conf with uid map = 10000-20000 gid map = 500-600 -> no errors in config!! old bug with usershares of what?
sorry for opening this thread again, but it looks like there is some bug in samba usershares. I successfully reproduced this bug in OpenBSD and in Fedora. Steps to reproduce: 1) Use default samba config. 2) Add options: usershare max shares = 5 (or else number) usershare allow guests = Yes 3) create usershares directory (personally i use directory path from testparm -v) 4) create group usershare

net password from OS/2 client
I am trying to get 'net password ...' to work from an OS/2 client to a Samba 3.1.15 server. However, I get an Invalid Password error whenever I run net password. I am certain that I am providing the correct password. With DEBUG_PASSWORD on in the build and tracing set to 100 I ran 'net view \\server' which authenticates correctly and I ran 'net password user oldpass

Error In Syslog concerning /var/lib/samba/usershares/home (Member Server)
I'm noticing the following error in my syslog every second. process_usershare_file: stat of /var/lib/samba/usershares/home failed. No such file or directory I understand it's missing. I've confirmed it's missing. But why? What is this home file or folder used for? Thanks. *System:* Linux member1 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.65-1+deb7u2 x86_64 GNU/Linux *Samba Version:*

samba 3.0.x / roaming profiles / NT MD4 problems
Hi, I'm setting up a new sambserver, migrating from 2.2.8a with ldap backend to 3.0.x (3.0.2a and 3.0.3pre2 tested) with openldap 2.1.26 backend and using sambaSamAccount I'm experiencing the following problem: - Roaming profiles sometimes work, sometimes not (most of the time not) and show erratic behaviour like removing the local copy (without having the DeleteRoamingCache key in

Deleted usershare permissions maintain precedence over regular shares
I set up two usershares to share my music and photos read-only a while ago. I recently decided to remove the usershares and recreate the shares in my smb.conf with read/write access to some users. If the shares have the same names that the usershares originally had, it seems that the original read-only permissions still apply; however, if I change only the names of the shares, I gain read/write
