S4 - inheritance changed by order of setClassUnion and setAs()
Dear colleagues, there is a behaviour with S4 (virtual) classes that I find very hard to understand: Depending on the position of setAs(), the tree of inheritance changes. This is my baseline example that defines the classes "grandma", "mother", "daughter" and a virtual class "mr_x". For a new instance if "daughter", "mr_x" is betweeen

Joining two (or more) frequency tables
Hi, I am still new to R and have, in spite of searching all over, found no "understandable" documentation for how to join two (or more) frequency tables. Why would I want to do that and what do I mean by "joining" ? Let me try to explain: I have a diagnosis form that allows registration of up to three diagnosis codes on animals with birth defects, like this: father.id

S4 - inheritance changed by order of setClassUnion and setAs()
Andreas, As far as I can tell (/conjecture), this is because the list of classes a particular class inherits from directly is appended to as needed, and so the order that a class extends others isd refined by the order that those connections are defined. We can see this with two setClassUnion calls, rather than required setAs: > setClass("grandma", slots = c(a =

:order by association field
Hi. I''m trying to do something that should be a fairly common pattern, but I''m currently not sure how. BACKGROUND: model Family has_one Father. also, Family has field "country_of_origin" model Father has a number of fields, such as first_name, age, etc. It''s easy to sort based on families'' fields: sorted_families = Family.find(:all, :order =>

HABTM using two columns
Hi all, I was wondering whether anyone could guide me to docu and code examples how to create and use a has_and_belongs_to_many relationship with a joining table where TWO columns are used to identify the relation to TWO alternative tables. Example: table 1: mothers [mother_id, name] table 2: fathers [father_id, name] table 3: children [child_id, name] joining table 4: children_parent

infer haplotypes phasing trios tdthap
Dear R mailing list, I have a dataset with genotypes from trios and I would like to infer haplotypes for each mother, father and child. The package that I could find that can do this is tdthap. But when the mother is homozygous (e.g., 2/2) the haplotype is called as not possible to infer (0); I would prefer for it to call the genotype (2). From what I understand it is doing what I would like

father and son heights
Faraway's book titled "Practical Regression and Anova using R", with full text available online at: http://cran.r-project.org/doc/contrib/Faraway-PRA.pdf refers to a data set, stat500, which compares midterm and final grades. It can be used to illustrate similar concepts. A google search for faraway.zip will locate the actual data. --- Date: Sun, 15 Feb 2004 10:37:08 -0800

data-frame adding/deleting column
Hallo, I have got an existing data frame and want to add a new column. The existing data frame was created like this: > df <- rbind( c("Fred", "Mary", 4), c("Fred", "Mary", 7), + c("Fred", "Mary", 9), c("Barney", "Liz", 3), + c("Barney", "Liz", 5) ) > df

Doubts about namespace && thunderbird.
Hi people. I ask this because I'm confuse about the namespace stuff. I setup a server with Centos 5.4(updated)+dovecot 1.0.7+postfix 2.3.3. We use thunderbird 2.0.x as our default email client. Possible Regression in setClassUnion between 3.5.0 and 3.6.0
Hi Robert, This looks like a bug to me (tested in R 3.6.2 on Windows), f(new("a")) should return "hi!". I'll add that this DOES work properly in 3.6.1 which leads me to suspect this could be due to the subtle change in the way method dispatch was performed to fix a different bug, in 3.6.2. Can anybody else confirm that? On 2/18/2020 9:32 AM, Robert Harlow wrote: >

Weekly machine password changes (RE: RE: odd: everything SHOULD work... winbind)
No big surprise there. :) I'm still trying to figure exactly what goes on with the machine password changing around. Who initiates this? nmbd? The PDC? Who's notified of this change, and what's going on there. Perhaps someone can shed some light? -- Nir Soffer -=- Software Engineer, Exanet Inc. -=- "Father, why are all the children weeping? / They are merely crying son O, are

setClassUnion with numeric; extending class union
Dear list: I am looking for a good way to create an S4 class that would extend numeric, but would allow NULL instead of data as well. As far as I can see there is no way at the moment to do that, but please correct me if I am wrong. The best solution I came up with so far was the following (it also indicates a problem of using setClassUnion with numeric as one of the classes): I define a class

setClassUnion
Hello, I have a question concerning "setClassUnion". I'm working with R 2.0.0 Patched (2004-10-06) on windows 2000. I tried to use "setClassUnion" in a package I am currently working on. The situation is similar to the following example: The DESCRIPTION file has entries: Depends: R (>= 2.0.0), methods Imports: methods LazyLoad: yes The NAMESPACE file has

Possible Regression in setClassUnion between 3.5.0 and 3.6.0
This seems to work as expected (returning "hi!") in R-devel, but there have been so many destabilizing changes to methods that it would be tough to port this to release. Probably should just wait for 4.0. Michael On Tue, Feb 18, 2020 at 8:00 PM Michael Lawrence <michafla at gene.com> wrote: > > Thanks, I'll look into it. > > On Tue, Feb 18, 2020 at 8:32 AM Ezra

yet another problem with S4 dispatch (with setClassUnion)
Dear John and Seth, dear R-devels, once again the question of method dispatch in S4 -- this time with setClassUnion(); taking up your advice in https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-devel/2006-April/037200.html https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-devel/2006-April/037201.html I have been too quick in stating that >setClassUnion()---at least in my case---solves the problem; > The problem arises
