Shared folders using mbox format
Hi, I'd like to create a shared folder to be used with an Outlook client and a Thunderbird client. We're currently using mboxes. I've read the documentation here about creating a shared folder: https://wiki.dovecot.org/SharedMailboxes/Shared It doesn't make reference to how to do this using mbox format. Is it possible? Should we convert to Maildir? Perhaps there's a way to

Error using dsync to convert really old mboxes to Maildir and workaround
I ran across what I think may be a bug in dsync when trying to convert from mbox to Maildir format. My first attempt failed with a runaway dsync process spewing out thousands of identical lines of the form: dsync(buus): Error: Duplicate mailbox GUID 00fe691ff60da85b090d0000c8119523 for mailboxes Archive/Personal and Work/VendorInfo - giving a new GUID 00fe691ff60da85b090d0000c8119523 to

compressed mboxes very slow
I have some archive mails in gzipped mboxes. I could use them with dovecot 1.x without problems. But recently I have installed dovecot 2.0.12, and they are slow. very slow. Creating index files takes about 10 minutes for ~20M file with 560 messages for bzipped mbox, for gzipped is little better but still unusable :( Stracing dovecot process shows that every ~ 20 messages it rereads complete mbox

2nd REPOST: mbox vs maildir
I'm going to assume this is just not possible, or that no one has an answer, which would lead me back to uw-imap since it does work as-is. So I'll post it again, hoping that there is a solution for this setup and that folks have just been too busy to help think about it and/or help come up with a possible solution. ----- Ignoring my previous message just for a second, I realized

Weird internaldate behavior with 1.0-test80 and mbox folder
Has anyone else encountered weird date behavior with mbox-style folders? I am nearly ready to bite the bullet and convert my UW imap hierarchy (which is in mbx format) to Dovecot. In so doing, I need to convert each UW-specific mbx-format mailboxes to the more portable mbox format, which Dovecot can read. (This is done with the 'mbxcvt' utility that's part of UW.) I am then

Sieve problem. Timo, is this mbox file size limitation hard coded? If so, why?
I would not have expected this upon implementing sieve. And I really need to get around this limitation. LDA has no problem writing to these large mbox files. Why does sieve have a problem with them? This is very odd. May 10 17:45:04 greer dovecot: deliver(stan): write() failed with mbox file /home/stan/mail/1-Debian-Users: File too large May 10 17:45:04 greer dovecot: deliver(stan): write()

corrupted mbox
Heya, we have two IMAP (UW-imap and dovecot) servers accessing the same mbox files for our users (don't ask why) and sometimes the UW-imap corrupts the mbox file. The mbox looks just like normal mbox except it does not have the proper 'From ' beginning of the file (usually there are some random tidbits in the begining of the file, which can be easily stripped to recover the working

simultaneous access to folder
We have for many years been a UW-IMAP site, with users having their own traditional, private, mbox-format INBOX and folders: almost (but not quite) no complications of shared or simultaneous access. We have just completed a transparent transition to dovecot (official 1.0.0 release). But we have one residual issue affecting one important user account. UW-IMAP specifically only allows single

Script to convert mboxes to maildirs?
Does anybody know of a script of a simple method of converting mbox mail stores to maildirs? I'm moving from an old pop3 system to imap and after installing about half our office with mboxes have found that mbox does not support subfolders which some people like to use. Is there any simple way of converting? I can go to each individual account and "manually" convert swaping data

.mailboxlist -> .subscriptions
I've mostly finished a conversion from an old Centos 3 UW-Imap server to a new Centos 6 dovecot server. I did not copy the old ~/.mailboxlist file to ~/mail/.subscriptions file, but notice some users have the latter file now. These are all mbox folders on the old and new server. I'm getting ready to do the same to another old/new pair of servers and I'm wondering if there is an

support for UW-style mbox
Hi, The dovecot docs say that support for the automatic appending of /var/spool/mail to a ~user/mbox (as is done by UW-IMAP) may be implemented in the near future. Is this still the case? And if so, is it far off? Cheers, Terry.

stat() failed with mbox /var/mail/%u
Hello, Over the last 12 hours or so, I've been wrestling with a mysterious dovecot issue. After upgrading a mail server I'm helping my friend with maintaining from Fedora Core1 to Fedora Core4, I realized that I couldn't use UW-IMAP4 anymore (well, I can compile it myself, but it turned out that UW-IMAP was the main cause of the server's having load average as high as 30 from

1.2.11, mbox, new mail
With 1.2.11 and mbox storage, the delay time in pulling new mail headers to the client from imap folders seems to be directly proportional to mailbox size, regardless of the number of new messages. At present, if the mailbox is large, pulling new headers is rather painfully slow. Is this expected behavior? Especially given that the client already has all the "old" mails in the folder

mbox slowness in dovecot-1.0-test61
Hi, We're trying out Dovecot to see if it's a good replacement for UW-imapd. It seems to be very slow in opening an mbox file, even after it's been indexed. (I mean way slower than UW) Here's some info on the system: Dovecot-1.0-test61 SuSE 8.1, Linux kernel 2.4 Using NFS to access mail. I've tried turning off mmap, using dotlocking, using fcntl locking (lockd, etc. are

Problems with POP3 UIDL when migrating from MBOX to Maildir
Hello, I am in the process of migrating a hosting setup from UW-IMAP to Dovecot. The protocols available to mail clients are IMAP and POP3 both before and after migration. I also wanted to change the mail storage format from MBOX to Maildir. However, at this point I hit a major snag with Dovecot and POP3 UIDL (unique identification listing for POP3 mailboxes). Several of the customers connecting

Q on configuring shared mboxes
Hello! I have the following three types of mailboxes on my server: 1) Regular user mail /var/mail/<user> in mbox format 2) Suspected spam in /var/tmp/spamprobe in mbox format 3) Archived mailing list in /home/mks/mksarch in mbox format I want the 1) to be only accessible to the respective <user>, obviously (POP3 and/or IMAP4). I wanted the 2) to be accessible to all users --

Fwd: Weird problem opening mbox in beta1/2
Hmm, this is peculiar! This mailbox has been unchanged on my test server since September. I've been using it to test each new version of Dovecot just after I've compiled it. When beta1 was released, I opened this mbox with no problems. However, when I upgraded to beta2, I got "file size unexpectedly shrinked in mbox file /export/mail/a/24/vis99003/INBOX (16895967 vs 16899267)".

corrupt mbox, mailboxes not found, and message read status
I'm running dovecot 0.99.10-0.rc2 deb packages for Debian Woody from braincells.com. My old environment was a server running UW-IMAP for IMAP and POP services. We are still using mbox for all mailboxes. I use IMP for web based access. Forgive me if these issues have already been discussed or fixed in cvs. Any additional pointers to this info. would be appreciated. I have noticed a
