Unexpected Behavior (potentially) in t.test
Greetings, I have stumbled across some unexpected behavior (potential a bug) in, what I suspect to be R's (2.6.2 on Ubuntu Linux) t.test function; then again the problem may exist in my code. I have shutdown R and started it back up, re-run the code and re-experienced the error. I have searched on Google for the abnormal termination error message "(stderr < 10 * .Machine$double.eps *

0 margin for creating eps files
Dear all, I am trying to create eps files of R plots (in Linux) so that I can import them into Word (obviously in MS Windows). What I would like is for the files to be cropped so that there is no margin around the actual plot, because I have no way of editing the files after they have been created. I have tried using par(mai=c(.75,.75,0,0)) in order to reduce the margin; it works fine when I

t-test on a data-frame.
Dear R-helpers, In a data frame I have 100 securities, monthly closing value, from 1995 to present, which I have to 1. Sampling with replacement, make 50 samples of 10 securities each, each sample hence will be a data frame with 10 columns. 2. With uniform probabilty, mark a month from 2000 onwards as a "special" month,t=0. 3. I have to subtract the market index from each column of each

Generate a matrix Q satisfying t(Q)%*%Q=Z and XQ=W
Hello, I have a question that is not directly related to R ... but I try to do it in R ;-) : I would like to generate a matrix Q satisfying (for a given Z, X and W) the two following conditions: t(Q)%*%Q=Z (1) XQ=W (2) where: Q is m rows and r columns X is p rows and m columns D is p rows and r columns C is r rows and r columns with m>p,r e.g: m=6, p=2 r=3

Sweave/LaTeX Problem with EPS PDF
Dear List: I am unsure if my problem is with Sweave or LaTeX. Anyhow, I am using the MikTeX distribution and TexnicCenter. I can easily create Sweave files and all goes well until I try to incorporate graphics. I use the same code as found in the examples found in the users manual. In R, the graphics I want are created as Sweave is creating the .tex file. When I examine the .tex file

lapack test failed (PR#7294)
Hallo, I've just installed R on our Opteron System (AMD Opteron 246). Running make check-all results in a failure during the lapack test: > ## ------- tests of random real and complex matrices ------ > > ## 100 may cause failures here. > eigenok <- function(A, E, Eps=1000*.Machine$double.eps) + { + V <- E$vect; lam <- E$values +

Test for Homoscedesticity in R Without BP Test
Hi Deepak, In econometrics there is another test very often used : the white test. The white test is based on the comparison of the estimated variances of residuals when the model is estimated by OLS under the assumption of homoscedasticity and when the model is estimated by OLS under the assumption of heteroscedastic. The White test with R install.packages("bstats") library(bstats)

make check on DU4 with R-1.1.0 snapshot
I just tried the rsync version of R-1.1.0 on one of my alphas: It compiles without problems (gcc/g77 2.95.2, system is DU4.0E) but make check stops in base-Ex.R at > X <- cbind(1, 1:7) > str(s <- svd(X)); D <- diag(s$d) List of 3 $ d: num [1:2] 12.07 1.16 $ u: num [1:7, 1:2] -0.0976 -0.1788 -0.2601 -0.3413 -0.4225 ... $ v: num [1:2, 1:2] -0.198 -0.980 -0.980 0.198 >

Re:Plotting to A4 and replacing x-axis with actual years.
Hie, I have written before and probably missed the reply. 1.) I have my figures in a 3X3 array and want to fit them onto a A4 size page. I have written commands to try a represent them in eps format but still their cutting out information. 2.) I have an odd number of years and wanted to represent them say 1980 1985 1990 1995 2000 instead of 1 5 10 etc. However, the years are not overwritting in

Where can I find a list of function like file, user group etc & what args to pass file {

[External] Re: zapsmall(x) for scalar x
Does mFUN() really need to be a function of x and the NA values of x? I can't think of a case where it would be used on anything but the non-NA values of x. I think it would be easier to specify a different mFUN() (and document this new argument) if the function has one argument and is applied to the non-NA values of x. zapsmall <- function(x, digits = getOption("digits"),
