Regarding S4 and libnss_winbind.so
Apparently this didn't/doesn't build on FreeBSD by default...or is it "doesn't build at all". If it is buildable, what should I do to build it, as without it...see wiki: http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba4/Winbind Cheers, TMS III

Samba4 FreBSD
Having some issues with: samba_dnsupdate Specifically: /usr/bin/nsupdate: cannot specify -g or -o, program not linked with GSS API Library I've looked through the script, and cannot find these options called. If anyone can point me to where they're called I'd appreciate it. Cheers, TMS III

Samba 4 and nsswitch
Having some difficulties determining which way to go here. Have an Ubuntu 10.2 server running S4Alpha11. The samba stuff is working well enough (though with a bit too much idle CPU consumption--haven't go there yet). However, I can't get proper responses for file system and user/group lookup. With AD in Samba 3 nsswitch.conf was passwd: files winbind group: files

Hi again timur
I am completely frustrated at this point. The following is not meant against you personally, but I'm the ONLY I.T. person for 100 users in 6 different offices, and I don't know what to do at this point but beg. I finally figured out what Heimdal is, and I believe is the main problem. Installed 5.2.1 on a machine. Installed krb5 from ports. Changed make.conf adding

Samba 4--Somethings decidedly broken
Hmmm...not quite sure where to go to fix this up. Samba 4 PDC, 1 W2K3R2, 1 W2K8R2 additional DC's. samba.log perpetually spewing: [Fri Jun 11 14:47:42 2010 PDT, 0 librpc/rpc/dcerpc_util.c:619:dcerpc_pipe_auth_recv()] Failed to bind to uuid e3514235-4b06-11d1-ab04-00c04fc2dcd2 - NT_STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER [Fri Jun 11 14:47:42 2010 PDT, 0

Samba4-alpha11
Just thought I'd say that samba4 is working quite nicely. Samba4 DC on Ubuntu server. Added a W2k3R2 and W2k8R2 server as DC's. Took a little bit of play to get it done, but not much. The only thing I've noticed so far (still in early lab stage) is a GC issue. Now if I can upgrade a Samba3-LDAP domain.... Cheers, TMS III

FW: smbd *not* breaking hard links when saving files
Hi Tim et al., Yes, I can see that the new behaviour would seem like an 'optimization', possibly especially for large files, in that it saves the unlink operation. was (quasi): unlink, open(write), write data, close now is (quasi): open(write, truncate), write data, close However, this old behaviour enabled my rather nice hard link copy (cheap!) local backup. The question is, is the

Samba 4 Orphaned DC
Is there a list of commands for cleaning up orphaned DC's. I used ntdsutil on the Windows boxes no problem. Used an LDAP gui tool to remove the LDAP entries. Sadly Samba4 is still trying to contact the orphan. Any guidance or manual page would be appreciated. Cheers, TMS III

ADS
Hi, new to list. Running FreeBSD 5.2.1 with latest samba port. I've gotten rather far, but have hit a bit of a snag. After getting kerberos and DNS sorted out, I did net ads join -U (An Admin name) got a pass prompt, the pass was accepted. Cool. Had created no samba accounts, so from my laptop (FreeBSD 5.1) I typre mount_smbfs //user@unix/directory /directory got a pass request and it

RAdmin
New to wine. Joined the list but never got wine to work with FreeBSD. Installed SuSE 9.1 and installed office. I was blown away. It works! Anyway, I use a program called RAdmin to remote administer Win machines. I can run the program, and get into a Win machine, but the keyboard commands don't work on the Win machine. The mouse does. Any thoughts? I can also RAdmin into the linux

Problem to import passdb in samba-tool
Rowland, that's right, pfSense is a firewall. I work with a system based him, and we have a proxy solution inside the pfSense machine. The samba4 will not be a AD DC, only give support to single signon for squid and some tools to control the AD. I think that i found what library is missing, i will make some tests and give the feedback in the list . > Date: Mon, 1 Dec 2014 14:51:34 +0000 >

Interesting Behavior
I've know that W2k and XP, in a w2k/k3 domain, attempt to attach to port 445 first before trying 139. Here's the interesting part. Once I join a 3.0.4 samba server on FreeBSD 5.2.1, if I try to map to the share using \\servername\share, from a w2k/xp domain joined workstation, I get a logon prompt, but it fails to connect. Doing netstat -an on the workstation shows an attempt to

To all with FreeBSD 5.2.1 and net ads join problems
If your getting kinit problems with net ads join (don't bother with testjoin-it will error out no matter), do the following: 1. Change an administrators password, especially if you upgraded from NT 4. 2. Create a krb5.conf file int /etc that looks like this: logging] default = FILE:/var/log/krb5libs.log kdc = FILE:/var/log/krb5kdc.log admin_server = FILE:/var/log/kadmind.log
