xp to samba domain member
I have a Samba PDC setup on FreeBSD with a WinXP, Win7, 2003 server and
Ubuntu Linux all joined. All works from each workstation except for my
Windows XP unable to access the Linux member. It can access all other
computers except that one while Win7 and 2003 server have no problems
accessing this Samba Linux member. The Linux member is running Samba

Bizarre problem - happens only under XP and not 2000
I have a very strange problem, which no one has been able to fathom to
this point so I'm hoping that someone here may have encountered
something similar. I'd better note down some background details first.
Relevant machines involved:
Win2K Adv. Server SP3 (acting as Active Directory primary)
Win2K Pro SP3 (authenticates against Win2K server above)
WinXP Pro SP1 (authenticates against

75 second (5 x 15) between login request and response
Hello all,
It takes about 75 seconds before Samba answers a login request from a WinXP
SP3 client. After the delay the client connects successfully and can browse
the share. The delay seems to be made up off 5 separate delays of 15 seconds
each judging by the debug logs. The delay seems to be caused by a
configuration issue with the LDAP password backend, but I can't figure out
what the

winxp + sp3 = samba-shared printer hangs the system
hi,
since I upgraded some winxp-pro sp2 client to sp3, my samba-shared
printers are no-longer usable :-/
With sp3, if I run notepad and choose the men? File-Print, the "print"
window hangs and does not show any printer for about 1 minute! The
same thing happens when I click on the men? Start-settings-Printer and
faxes.
With sp2, everything works correctly and I can browse all my

Samba4 - WinXP rpc server unavailable
Hi,
I have a test environment with Samba4 on Ubuntu 11.04 (alpha15 package),
and a little problem around the joining to the domain from my WinXP SP3
machine.
I followed the official Samba4 Howto, then my configuration steps was these:
- Install smb4 from ubuntu package
- setup provisioning, created a testdom.mycorp.local
- setup bind9 with gssapi (everything working fine)
- test

OT: permission denied when opening PDF docs with Acrobat Reader X potected mode
Hi,
this might be off topic because it's not a samba problem, but might be
interesting for others too. We are running an older samba 3.0.24 working
as domain controller (no DFS features). When opening a .pdf file with
the Acrobat Reader X from a WinXP SP3 client (maschine is member of the
domain) the Acrobat Reader X shows a "permission denied". We see the

Domain Admins
Hi,
I'm trying to set up one of my users to be a domain admin. I have
unix/ldap group called "domainadm" with "user1" a member of the group.
When I run "net groupmap list" I get the following:
Domain Admins (S-1-5-21-186220259-3826000728-3192352269-7033) -> domainadm
But when I go to log in to the domain with "user1" on a winxp machine,

WinXP closing network share when starting task manager
Hello
We use WinXP SP3 with samba "version 3.5.4-2382-SUSE-SL10.0"
We have some drives mapped to users, most of them work fine but one
behaves weird: upon starting the task manager by ctrl-alt-delete, the
network drive disconnects.

Samba3 - WinXP - Domain not available
Hi,
I am sure it has been discussed extensively somewhere, but I cannot find
a satisfactory solution so far.
We have a samba3 PDC running with Win7 machines (with the right hacks)
without problems. We have been asked to add an old WinXP machine to the
network but without success so far.
The setup is as follow:
Server : Samba 3.6.3 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Clients: Win 7 Ultimate (working) &

XP SP3 and posix locking
Hi,
the home directories of our users are NFS-mounted from a NetApp filer to
our samba server. Everthing was fine until the users installed the
service pack 3 for Windows XP on the client machines. Suddenly it was
impossible to write MS Office files on the samba share. Word or Excel
documents could only be opened in read-only mode. After de-installing
SP3 everything worked well again.

XP error code 1326 on share (but smbclient works)
Hi all,
I am new to this list and I am not an expert, so please be patient
with me :-)
I am trying to make a samba share working, between a samba standalone
server v.4.5.10 (Fedora 25) and a winXP SP3 client.
The share should be writable by an authenticated user.
The share used to work fine in the past, but upgrading to 4.5.10
(presumably from 4.4.14, on Fedora 24) broke something.

Newbie question but an Easy one
Our school needs to replace our Novell server.
We have a collection of XP Pro computers and a few XP Home, Win98, Win95
and Win2000 computers.
All we need is file sharing.
Can Samba be setup so that all these computers can access a file share (F:\
or G:\) and run the program on the client pc?
What would be the minimum HW required for Samba server?
Greatly thankful I am!

lib/access.c:check_access message fills my log
Hi,
in the logfile of one of my WinXP SP3 clients I see this message once a
second and thousands over the day

The client is in the same internal subnet with the PDC. I checked the
client and access to the shares, roaming profile and printing works
fine. After restarting the client the logging

Recent version of Garmin Mapsource doesn't work
Garmin's Mapsource versions prior to 6.16.1 worked almost flawlessly.
Now with version 6.16.1 which I upgraded, the main map window doesn't draw the map anymore, just a gray tile.
You can still zoom in and zoom out, and even pass your mouse to see that its over some road, but you can't see the map.
If you open a track, the trackline shows, but not the map.
Also, it now requires at

Recommended Linux Distro and Windows Client
I've gotten some great suggestions about setting up a samba server for our
Windows xp and 98 clients. Thanks!
What Linux distro would you recommend to create the server and then put
Samba on it?
What client would I need to put on each windows workstation for them to
have access to the linux file server?
