Automatic site selection for dowload
I would like to ask that more flexibility be built into automatically choosing sites for downloading. I have just upgraded to CentOS 5.2. When I look for a mirror, I get many choices from Taiwan. Since I am in Hong Kong this makes sense geographically but .... not in terms of bandwidth. Although Taiwan is very close, it is almost the slowest connection I can make. Some .jp sites are good

dowload.file(method="libcurl") and GET vs. HEAD requests
Thanks for looking into it. Is there a way to avoid the HEAD request in R 3.3.0? I'm asking because if there isn't, then I'll add a workaround in a package I'm working on. -Winston On Tue, Jun 21, 2016 at 9:45 PM, Martin Morgan <martin.morgan at roswellpark.org> wrote: > On 06/21/2016 09:35 PM, Winston Chang wrote: >> >> In R 3.2.4, if you ran

dowload.file(method="libcurl") and GET vs. HEAD requests
In R 3.2.4, if you ran download.file(method="libcurl"), it issues a HTTP GET request for the file. However, in R 3.3.0, it issues a HTTP HEAD request first, and then a GET requet. This can result in problems when the web server gives an error for a HEAD request, even if the file is available with a GET request. Is it possible to tell download.file to simply send a GET request, without

Re: First XEN install: Installing XEN in virtual machine? &Remote GUI for XEN? & etc.
1) No, not necessarily. Many VM systems (Parallels, VMware, even XEN HVMs) emulate Ring 0 access for the operating system running on top of it, so there isn''t any reason for direct hardware access. However, you really should grab some older or cheaper hardware and install Xen directly on the hardware - it will be very, very slow running inside parallels. 2) There really isn''t

Perfect World International- Mouse trouble
I have been installed PWI and I can get into the game but the mouse icon does not show up. I can get in and build a character if I hunt around and click blindly. That is the farthest I have gotten so I don't know if the game is going to work or not. I am fairly new to the Linux system but I have been learning. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this?

XP Pro / Redhat / Samba Printer Suggestions
I am looking at buying a new home office printer and wondered what you all might suggest. My current printer is a very inexpensive Canon BubbleJet, and I find it clogs frequently, has very small ink tanks, and the Maintenance functions from my XP clients does not work with samba, requiring I switch the printer cable to an XP machine for maintenance. My config is this: - XP Professional

[patch] Eliminate warnings from gcc -Wold-style-declaration
Motivated by the recent R-devel list message with the title "Registration of native routines", I modified an R package to use registration of native routines along the lines of the example in section 5.4.2 of R-exts (development version). Among other compiler flags, I have '-Wextra' permanently set for installing packages. When installing the modified package, I got the

Locking up on Mac OSX when trying to run Game Maker games
My computer, a recent MacBook running 10.5.8, locks up when I'm trying to run games made in Game Maker, such as seiklus (http://autofish.net/clysm/art/video_games/seiklus/) or spelunky (http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=4017.0). I can't find any helpful errors in the command line output, here's a sample run of seiklus: fixme:richedit:RichEditWndProc_common WM_STYLECHANGING:

Scirra Construct
Alright, I am currently trying to run Scirra's program "Construct" on my Mac OSX version 10.6.4. I have wine and I have managed to install construct into the wine files and have found it. Everything is good so far. I have tried running the .exe file from file management in Wine and have had no luck as it doesn't seem to want to open for me. So I went and in the wine files in my

[LLVMdev] VMKit build failure on OSX
Hi all, I am currently trying to build vmkit on OSX Lion. I am using release versions of llvm/clang as 3.2 and have tired both vmkit HEAD, 3.2 and vmkit2. I have gotten farthest with 3.2 but the current build error that I am getting is llvm[3]: Compiling JavaObject.s for Release+Asserts build /vmkit/lib/j3/VMCore/Release+Asserts/JavaObject_gc.s:1647:2: error: invalid instruction mnemonic
