legend() graphics output bug (PR#5725)
Full_Name: Daniel Gasser Version: 1.8.1 OS: Win XP Submission from: (NULL) (130.60.20.92) The legend()-Function shows a different behaviour than it did in Version 1.6.1. It plots a black box left of the legend lines on each legend row. In 1.6.1 there was just the line in appropriate color for each row in the legend (i was using exactly the same legend statement and same plot function). My legend

Rotate legends or other approaches to nice legend placement?
I'm sure this general sort of question has been asked many times before - I would _like_ automatic and sensible legend placement in barplots so data is not overwritten... but since there doesn't seem to be one, one of the following would be useful: One approach for this would be to place the legend to the right of the graph, and rotate it by 90 degrees. Is there a sensible way to do

Plotting a legend outside the figure - units
Dear R gurus, I am trying to plot a legend in the margins of a figure. The basic idea is to have two (or more) plots on the same figure, but then to have a common legend at the bottom of the plot. The approach that I have taken is to setup the figures, then do a "dummy" plot of the legend to determine the height of the legend box (ie from the value returned by the legend() command). I

legend with small colored boxes
Hi all, I tried to a nice legend with small boxes filled with the colors used for the plots. But it does nor work, boxes are always filled with black. An example is here plot(1:4,1:4) lines(1:4,4:1, col="blue") legend("top",leg=c("a","b"),col=c("black","blue"), fill=TRUE) How could I specify the colors? the argument col.box is the

How to get legend outside of plot?
I am creating a CDF plot function more user-friendly than any default r function. Depending upon the bimodality of the data (it is often bimodal), or any other strange data trends, the points can end up gathering in just about any corner of the plot. So, when I add a legend, whether I choose to add it in the bottom right, top left, or wherever, it will sometimes end up putting the legend right

colorbar legend for image()
Hi, are there any plans to add a colorbar legend to image()? Or such a possibility already implemented which I just haven't discovered yet. Anyway, I will be willing to spent some time on the implementation if there isn't anyone working on that already. color coding a legend
I'm using R 1.6.2 on a Windows 2000 machine. I've plotted the results of an MDS run labeled by a numerical ID, and color coded by a group code: plot(cv.mds.spr$points, type="n", main="Non-Metric Multidimensional Scaling of SprRun CV Watersheds") text(cv.mds.spr$points, labels = as.character(cv.wshed.id.spr), col = codes(cv.wshed.grp), cex=.75) Question is, how do I

Barplot legend position
Dear useRs, I'm trying to create a barplot like so: x=matrix(1:10,2,5) barplot(x,leg=c("left","right"),besid=T) The legend is placed in default position topright, however the data are plotted there too. I tried controlling the legend position by adding x="topleft" but this results in an error that x matches multiple formal arguments. Leaving out the legend

Multiple symbols per single line in a legend
Hello everybody, Is it possible to coax legend() into displaying more than one simbol per line in legend? I have a graph like the one attached to this mail; I would like to reorganize the legend in such a way that the duplicate text would be omitted, i.e., the first line would read <square> <triangledown> "increasing frequency" and the second one would read <circle>

Legend symbol?
Hello, I am creating a plot/image using different data and a couple fit lines (see attached image). In the legend, I want the Default and Exponential symbol to be a line. I am using the pch command, I tried to use "-" to represent a line but does not work so I currently have set as a "1". Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Below are the commands

line width in legend of interaction.plot
Dear R developers, The following command produces an interaction plot with lwd=2. interaction.plot(c(1, 2, 1, 2), c(1, 1, 2, 2), 1:4, lwd=2) In the legend, however, lwd seems to be 1, which does not seem to be intended behavior. Probably the lwd is not correctly forwarded to legend: from the interaction.plot source: legend(xleg, yleg, legend = ylabs, col = col, pch = if (type %in%

whishlist: legend - changing color of the boxes-border
Hi, Drawing a legend I would like to be able to specify the color of boxes which are drawn if fill or density is specified. eg. legend(0,40000,c("raw","LR/PR-TPS"),fill=c(1,2),col=c(1,2),density=c(20,20),angle=c(-20,45),bty="n") Currently the color of the boxes -- border is always black and can *not* be changed. To get this option only a *minimal* change is

How to draw a border for multiple graphs in one page
Hi, I am struggling to create a 2 by 2 multiple graphs in one page. I used par(mfrow=c(2,2)) to divide the screen into 4. In each screen I draw a pie chart (They are all same). For example, my data is like this Concentration value A1 69 A2 8 G1 51 G2 1

dev.copy legend problem
Dear all, We are facing this problem for long, and so ask for your help. We are plotting 2 graphs in a postscript device (left part -layout function-), and the common legend for these graphs on the right part. The legend in the postscript device looks ok: this is color lines with numbers on the right (6 columns) , see the code below: > nblock<-c(1:48) > leg<-paste(c(1:npin),"

(no subject)
Good morning, I wrote a little code in R which has to show two graphs but I can get only one. How can I adress the graphs in two files? Second, I'd like, always in the same code, to add a legend to a graph. Better, I'd like to put in such a legend a new item whose color could remind the colour ol the columns it refers to in the plot. I wrote: leg.txt<-c("control

distance between legend title and legend box
Hi, I've looked at the parameters available for the legend function and cannot find a way to change the distance between the top of the box surrounding a legend and the legend's title. I have a math expression that raises the height of my title. If you don't mind the non-sensical title I give to the legend for this plot (Figure 3.20 in R Graphics): with(iris,

line with of the symbols in the legend -- changable?
Dear R users, I plot data with points(my_data[x]~x, col = x, type = "o", lwd="4") where x is an integer running from 1 to 10, I get points drawn at the plot. When want to do a legend to this I try legend(leg.txt[x], col = x, text.col = 1, pch = 1, bty = "n") where leg.txt contains the names of the variable and x behaves the same. The difference between the

How to center a horizontal legend with specified 'text.width'
Hello dear list, I just cannot figure out how to do this and didn't find a solution for my specific problem. I want to place a centered horizontal legend between 4 plots. That's no problem. The problem is: As soon as I specify the "text.width" parameter to separate the two legend entries, the legend is not centered anymore. I thought the 'xjust' parameter would do what

Legend
Hi everyone. I have a linear regression where I retrieve the R2 like this: r2 = sprintf('%4.2f %s',(summary(reg1)$r.squared)) In my figure I have a legend where I would like to add that R2 value to the legend text. Something like: My text R^2 = r2 legend('topright', inset = .05, title='light ratios', pch = c(21), c(paste('Green/Red', R^2, '=', r2)),

Graphic legend with mathematical symbol, numeric variable and character variable
Hi, I'd like to make a legend with a mix of mathematical symbol (tau), numeric variable and character variables.I have tried : types<-c("Type 1","Type 2","Type 2") tau<-c(1,3,2) legend(x="topright",legend=paste(types,"tau=",expression(tau))) but it doesn't work: the 'tau' symbol is not written in its 'symbol
