error opening winecfg
I updated my distro from Fedora 10 to Fedora 11 yesterday. I did not update wine because the version it wants to use is 1.1.23 and I remember several posts of people having trouble with either .23 or .24. All of my games and office/work programs run fine through wine, but the wine cfg window will not start up. I get: ALSA lib seq_hw.c:457:(snd_seq_hw_open) open /dev/snd/seq failed: No such

Winecfg not doing anything
I am using Ubuntu Dapper. I'm trying to set up wine. I'm reading all these guides and they say to run winecfg in the Terminal and then click on this or that tab. Now, when I run winecfg in the terminal, this is the output: wine: creating configuration directory '/home/daniel/.wine'... (daniel is my username) It doesn't go back so that you can type in a new command but I can

Can't run winecfg under Mandriva 2006
Hello everyone: I'm running Mandriva 2006 on a 64-bit dual-core machine with 1 Gb of RAM and 800 Gb of storage. Yesterday I downloaded the package "wine-0.9.17-mdk.i586.rpm" from www.winehq.com, saved it to disk, and then installed it. I got no error messages, but I can't run the winecfg program. Here's what I get: [leo@localhost Documents]$ wine Usage: wine PROGRAM

boot timeout problems, e.g. winecfg
I have the problem that every application I start with wine takes about 30 seconds to start. It then prints the following message: > > err:process:__wine_kernel_init boot event wait timed out > As far as I can remember this problem this problem exists since I installed SuSE 11.1 (wine 1.1.10?). I see the problems on both of my machines. E.g. set-up of my desktop: > :~> cat

Compiling from source - where is winecfg?
Hey all, I've just switched distro to Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) from LM9 Isadora. Some of you may be aware that the Wine Debian packages are extremely old (the repo the main page directs me to doesn't go above 1.1.4.2), so I compiled 1.3.4 from source, without installing. That went fine, insofar as I tested with a previously-installed app and it ran, but now I want to install a

"worked" (except mostly font glitches & help) on Wine 1.2.3 on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS since I installed it ~6 months ago. I used it daily, until 4 days ago, about the time I installed QGIS. Since then it won't launch: jack at freekbox:~$ env WINEPREFIX="/home/jack/.wine" wine C:\\windows\\command\\start.exe /Unix /home/jack/.wine/dosdevices/c:/users/jack/Start\

multiple wine versions
Hello I managed to install a version of wine in ubuntu using: sudo apt-get install wine which gave me version 1.2.2 This version has been working pretty good with World of Warcraft but according to the AppDB version 1.3.6 is much better ('platinum') for Counter-strike: Source. So I d/led the source and installed it in /home/myname/.wine-1.3.6 but i'm not sure i understand PREFIX i

Clean enviroments in Wine
I read somewhere that in order for a program to work properly in Wine it should be installed in a clean enviroment, something along the lines of one software conflicting with anothers drivers/runtime/apps/etc. Is this true? Does this mean that I can only have one program installed with Wine at a time? Can one not create several 'fresh enviroments'?

Install Wine's fake-windows directory in different place
By default Wine installs its fake-windows part into $HOME. I want rather have it on a separate partition, that I mount as /wine. How can I do this? What I have found was: http://wiki.jswindle.com/index.php/Advanced_Wine_User_Information#Changing_the_location_of_Wine.27s_installation My steps so far: - Installed Wine with Synaptic - # wineprefixcreate --prefix /wine - I find the fake directory

Centos 5.10, Firefox ESR 24.3.0, Rendering Failure
Further to my very recent concerns that <ol type="a"> gives digits. type="a" was "depreciated" in HTML 4.1. "depreciated" means to me to be of a lesser value or to be prepared it may be abandoned. It does not, in my version of English English, mean removed from the HTML specification. Therefore it should function 'normally' in modern

Why is wineprefixcreate deprecated?
I understand that it is applied automatically when needed, but there are times when one would want to run it manually. An example is when I want to literally create a new wine prefix such as env WINEPREFIX="/home/bamm/apps/myprog" wineprefixcreate to prepare a clean profile for future installation of myprog. I know that running setup with a WINEPREFIX would create the clean profile,

Including a single function from a package
Hello all. I'm building a package where I want to include a function from two different packages. In particular, I want to include mvrnorm and hyperg_2F1 from MASS and gsl, respectively (but the specific functions do not matter). With what I've tried after reading the "Specifying imports and exports" section from the "Writing R Extensions" manual, I get an error:

winecfg Audio tab crash - OS X Snow Leopard
Hi all, I built Wine 1.2-RC3 via Macports today on my Macbook Pro, running OS X 10.6.3. Just noticed a problem I've never had before - whenever I run winecfg and click on the Audio tab, Wine crashes. Thought it might have been something weird in my ~/.wine, but I tried with a fresh Wine prefix and still had the same problem. Any ideas? Sample output follows: WINEPREFIX=~/.winetest1 winecfg
