Allow multiple users of the Quicken 2011 program
I installed Quicken 2011 in Wine 1.2.3 under a Linux MINT12 System. I am the Administrator. All went well. I then installed a second user - my wife. In her menu there was a Wine. BUT her wine does not have Quicken 2011. I tried to install Quicken under her login but ran into all sorts of problems - Mainly this dumb Com Error thing. QUESTION: Since I install Quicken as administrator how do I

multiple users on LINUX - way to share a single .wine
Basically, I'd like to have just one .wine dir on my file system that multiple users on LINUX can share thus allowing me to keep a single install of my windows apps. The default is to install to /home/CURRENT_USER/.wine so I'm wondering, as long as the LINUX users are in the same group, can I relocate the .wine dir to say, /home/share/.wine and update the wineconfig? I just started using

Wine and sudo
FAQ is strongly not recommending to run wine as a root, but why is that? What should I do if I want to use FAR Manager (http://www.farmanager.com/) for system administration?

Windows program installation with Wine
Apologies for what is probably a silly question ! If one installs a Windows program in Linux with Wine which requires things like Winetricks to install some Windows stuff, is the whole installation within the .Wine folder ? I assume that when installing Windows programs (Including anything else that is necessary, eg. from Winetricks) then everything is indeed within .Wine with no changes at all

wine: /intended/PREFIXdirectory/not owned by you
I am attempting to create a folder for my wineprefixes on my external hard disk. The plan is to symlink to that location from inside my user folder (ie. ~/.wine/PREFIXES -> $iomega/.wineprefixes) For reference: $iomega=/media/Iomega_HDD This is a 400GB external drive with a single NTFS partition. The plan is to create folders for all my WINEPREFIXes at $iomega/.wineprefixes (Example:

Clean enviroments in Wine
I read somewhere that in order for a program to work properly in Wine it should be installed in a clean enviroment, something along the lines of one software conflicting with anothers drivers/runtime/apps/etc. Is this true? Does this mean that I can only have one program installed with Wine at a time? Can one not create several 'fresh enviroments'?

Wine and ePSXe 1.7.0 command line issue.
I've been wondering about this for a while. I use the windows version of ePSXe because the linux version is still at 1.6.0 which has some issues with Chrono Cross that 1.7.0 fixes. Anyway. It works pretty well in wine most of the time but there's one problem I've been having. Whenever I start it by double clicking the ePSXe.exe from a gui file manager it runs just fine. However, if I

Problem: enable multiuser wine
Hallo, folks, in openSuSE 12.1, I installed wine from the Wine CVS Builds repository. I knew it would work perfectly as of my experience on 11.4. In the end, it does! BUT I tried a different thing - it does run the programme, but only for one user! To get the programmes installed under WINE working for every user (one single laptop, different accounts), I tried the following recommendation

wine client error:0: version mismatch 432/431
Can someone tell me why, despite using a completely clean tree, I keep getting this on a Wine64 build? Code: wine client error:0: version mismatch 432/431. Your wine binary was not upgraded correctly, or you have an older one somewhere in your PATH. Or maybe the wrong wineserver is still running? It's getting on my bloody nerves! TIA

multiple wine versions
Hello I managed to install a version of wine in ubuntu using: sudo apt-get install wine which gave me version 1.2.2 This version has been working pretty good with World of Warcraft but according to the AppDB version 1.3.6 is much better ('platinum') for Counter-strike: Source. So I d/led the source and installed it in /home/myname/.wine-1.3.6 but i'm not sure i understand PREFIX i

Can't figure out how to put wineprefixes on an NTFS drive
Hi, I'm still a bit new to Linux and Wine, so please bear with me if this is a stupid question. I've been putting all my windows applications in their own wineprefixes, and now I thought I'd put some of them in my data partition, because there's always lots of free space there and many of my games take a lot of space. But when I try to create a new wineprefix on my data

how to prepare and run portable Wine build from folder?
Hello, I want to better understand Wine and its source code, so I've downloaded the source code and successfully built it under Ubuntu 10.10. Now I want to be able independently execute different windows programs under current build folder. My aim is to make execution portable, that I could copy sources and build another Wine executables in another folder so no settings for wine or windows

Unhandled exception launching games from Steam
So after years of running a 'pure' Linux machine, I finally decided to install Wine so I could play some of my old games - and it's been a disaster. Using either Wine 1.5.3 or 1.3.3 trying to launch Half-Life Source results in nothing happening, trying to launch from the commandline gives this stack trace: Code: wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address

Obviously you can't have source directory as the wineprefix. But, in this case I must to install gecko, fonts, dcom and other libs everywhere I use a different wine version, isn't it?
