GPMC Permissions
Hello all, I installed Samba4 from GIT (alpha 16, it says) and while most functionality is operational, GPMC continues to report an error in permissions, claiming the permissions for the GPO are inconistant with that of Active Directory. I can't correctly implement GPOs due to this, since only parts of the GPO (if at all) are actually updated on machines (WInXP SP3). Thanks for any input on

Group Policy Settings Missing/Not Applying
Hi, Im attempting to apply a few group policy settings but they dont seem to be applying on the machine in question, or some settings I cannot see in the GPME. 1. Settings applied to openssh dont seem to create the required config files in /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/ for ssh to actually pick up on these changes. Is there a different location its applying these to that I can verify with? Below is

Permission Issues with GPO
I was experiencing problems with Group Policy Objects. The Windows Event Viewer spits out so many different errors, most of them less than helpful, so Iwas seeking help here with some of those messages. In the end, and after many hours and even days of researching this problem, I seem to have pin-pointed the main issue to some simple permission irregularities that I don't know how to

Permission Issues with GPO
Here are my (little) view regarding shares accesses. I write that to clarify things. And it could really be of-topic as Louis seems to have gave solution. There are 2 levels of authorisation for accessing shares: the share level and FS level. For Sysvol I would keep everyone or replace it by "authenticated users" in paranoid mode as the latter refuse non-authenticated users. They are

OT: Vista & NTConfig.POL
This isn't technically a samba question, but I figure there will be other samba users out there in the same boat. I have just setup the first Vista box on our samba domain and I am having some trouble with policies (they don't get applied). I have had a look around and there is alot of talk about the adm->admx change, etc but I haven't seen anyone say that anything needs to

Dueling master browsers...
I'm having trouble with my Samba 3 PDC and several XP Pro workstations stealing the master browser status on the network. These users won't log in to the domain. Logs and purified smb.conf attached. SAMBA 4 the ways to backup
Hello! I have SAMBA4 working just great. Currently I'm already backup it up by just taking a full snapshots of the virtual machine SAMBA4 is running on. But I would like to know, which directories and/or files are actually the SAMBA4 databases? So, for example I could copy those files and paste onto another SAMBA4 and have Controller up and running. Thank you! -- View this message in

(Samba4) Normal users unable to login
This is a freshly provisioned Samba 4.0.0-rc5 installation. I provisioned the domain and created shares in the configuration file to match an existing Samba 3.5.x installation that we're moving away from (or at least, that's the plan...) for various reasons. I then moved all the contents of the shares over from the old server to the new server via rsync, including home directories and

Sysvol Replication in Samba4
Hi, We installed a samba4 AD controller using Gpo for a small group of users (5 users), everything is OK. (Samba4 beta 7 on Ubuntu 12.04) We installed another Samba4 AD controller as a BDC of the first one with the command "samba-tool domain join" with succes. After checking this new installation, we saw that the sysvol share was not replicated from the PDC and all the Policies are

Any documentation on how the official packages are being built?
Hi, if I wanted to reproduce the official build, for example in order to get a code-signed Windows build [1], to which documentation can I turn to find out about the steps and tools (and their versions) used? That is, I am interested in the steps done by the respective maintainers which yield the packages at http://releases.llvm.org/download.html Thanks and with best regards, Oliver [1] I

SAMBA4 Alpha12 password changing problem
Hello, I have successfully installed SAMBA4 Alpha12 as PDC. I added two machines. Ubuntu 11.04 Linux and Windows 7. They both can authenticate and log in to the machines. WHich is great. The problem comes when users trying to change their password. This is not working! It's constantly complaining for the complexity. However I used strong and absolutely different to any previous password.

Name Resolve Order : parameter of smb.conf with testparm
I am writing this letter and I hope that I'll have answers about the generation of smb.conf by the way of smb.conf.master with testparm command. Like is described on page 5 of Samba3-HOWTO.pdf. The situation is: - The manual of smb.conf says that the default value of the parameter ?name resolve order? is ?lmhosts host wins bcast?, but when I type the command like: # testparm -s
