Samba 3 + Win2k = Headache
I have a feeling I may have lost focus on the issue in some of my previous messages... so here's my dilemma. I have several Windows (2000 and XP) clients, and several Linux (Red Hat Enterprise 3, 2.4.21 kernel) clients. I've got a couple servers, one is currently Windows 2000 Server, and one is Linux (same as above, with the snapshot Samba running). I want to be able to have users log

Samba/LDAP share issue -- user with invalid SID
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Greetings, While I've seen this referred to a lot of places, I haven't yet found a posted solution that works for me. Testing has been done from a Mac running OSX 10.5.8 Here's what I have so far: if anyone can give me a next step to test, I'd appreciate it. If anyone can give me a complete solution, I'd appreciate it even

Samba 4 Cleanup Managing and Otherwise
OK, there has got to be a way to work with this thing other than wiping the Domain every time an error pops up. Trying to resolve problems I did a git upgrade and: setup# /usr/local/samba/sbin/upgradeprovision Which provided the unhelpful: Found 3 domain controllers, for the moment upgradeprovision is not able to handle upgrade on domain with more than one DC, please demote the other(s)

samba 4.0.6 getent group
Hello all listies. I've got samba4.0.6 running on FreeBSD 9.1. Joined W2K12 domain as member server. running getent group I noticed it takes a long time to resolve groups. The result is correct, but it is inordinately long. With 3.6.13 on FreeBSD 9.1 the return is nearly instantaneous. smb4.conf looks like this. [global] workgroup = TMS3 security = ADS realm = TMS3.COM encrypt

SNIP > > > How to know the NetBIOS name in Linux? Linux does not care. Only Windows cares. > > > > The name of my domain is: DOMAINE.CH > The name of my server: SERVEUR-TPI The posix name of the server does not matter. Nor does the DNS name as it can have more than one DNS name. You need to work with Samba as a somewhat separate entity. It is simply easier to match

Samba setting read only on document on share
Hello all How do you allow someone in a particular group (i.e. the group writers in my example below) other than the creator of a file (the owner) to set a document as being read only? This is the only problem I am facing with my samba shares at the mo which I need to fix, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Hope this makes sense! The relevant samba snippet is below:- [Share]

Samba4-alpha11
Just thought I'd say that samba4 is working quite nicely. Samba4 DC on Ubuntu server. Added a W2k3R2 and W2k8R2 server as DC's. Took a little bit of play to get it done, but not much. The only thing I've noticed so far (still in early lab stage) is a GC issue. Now if I can upgrade a Samba3-LDAP domain.... Cheers, TMS III

I'm getting ready to submit an update of survival, and is my habit I run the checks on all packages that depend/import/suggest? survival.? I am getting some very odd behaviour wrt non-reproducability.? It came to a head when some things failed on one machine and worked on another.?? I found that the difference was that the failure was using the 3/27 release and the success was still on a

windows 7 professional Samba share access denied

I can access the share using ip address of the share machine but if I try to access using \\sambaShare\folder1 it prompt me for username and password, (it should not prompt me for username and password because i already login to the domain). However, I

Samba 4 and nsswitch
Having some difficulties determining which way to go here. Have an Ubuntu 10.2 server running S4Alpha11. The samba stuff is working well enough (though with a bit too much idle CPU consumption--haven't go there yet). However, I can't get proper responses for file system and user/group lookup. With AD in Samba 3 nsswitch.conf was passwd: files winbind group: files

windows 7 unable to join domain
Hi, I'm currently running Samba3x-3.3.8-0.51 on CentOS 5.5. I currently have many Windows XP clients associated with the domain and behaving correctly. However, I am unable to join a Windows 7 PC. I receive "The specified network name is no longer available." I've verified that DNS is configured correctly, and as stated XP machines have no problem joining. Per some googling,

FW: making BDC samba + ldap server
Is this Samba 3 or Samba 4? If samba 3, which ldap server are you using> What is the mail server? Does the mail server have its own LDAP server included it or is also using an external LDAP server. If you want replication between LDAP servers, they should be the same type of LDAP server (e.g. OpenLDAP or Apache Directory Server or Oracle Directory Server.) If you have one
