ACL's vs Share definitions (Trying again)
I have the Win2000 client(s) in a Samba domain. Domain authentication works fine, my "homes" share works fine, remote profiles work fine. Using 3.0.1Pre1 I would like to add people to "someshare" through the Security tab, and control their access through windows ACL's. How should I setup a share as a basis for doing this? The share below (someshare) in this email

Valid users question
Hi, I've a question about the syntax of the valid users option. Any help is greatly appreciated! Here is the Background: samba 3.0.4 Linux as Domain Member Active Directory, not in Native Mode Compiler opions: --with-winbind --with-pam --with-smbmount The goal is to authenticate via the Windows Domain and allow access via Windows groups. The syntax in my smb.conf looks like this:

different mask for directory inside another share
Hello, let's assume we have: [$someshare] path = /some/path create mask = 0644 directory mask = 0755 Within /some/path there's directory named dir1 for example (/some/path/dir1). Is it possible to define alternative masks for that particular directory without presenting it as a different share. My second question - is it possible to define write list for /some/path/dir1 only. --

Samba conf. problem - NetBIOS problem?
Thanks to those who wrote and suggested I remove NetBEUI from my Win95 machines. Here's the next chapter in the story: First, based on another suggestion, I tried "netstat -a" on the Win95 machine "secretary". It didn't show any kind of traffic on ports 137-139 (even though files WERE being shared at the time). Next, I tried removing NetBEUI from

Strange issue with share access on domain controllers
Hi list, I've a strange issue with Windows 7 (also occurs on 8.1) when accessing shares on domain controllers. If I use IP address or in-domain FQDN (server.domain.name), all is right. If I use another DNS entry pointing to the same IP, share access fails with following message (translated from french) : \\somehost.somsuffix\someshare is not accessible. […] Invalid parameter Issue

Cannot authenticate new ldap users (unless they are in /etc/passwd too)
Hi, I migrated a PDC to use an ldap backend and am having fun with a few last issues.. Existing user accounts and machine accounts were migrated, and existing users can authenticate. Now I've added some new users and none of them can authenticate. e.g. for the user "inktec". The user can login via SSH, but not mount a share: smbclient \\\\server3\\someshare -U=inktec mypassword

Strange issue with share access on domain controllers
Hi, No change According to netbios aliases documentation, it only modify NETBIOS announce, but I'm using DNS to access the host (and it is correctly resolved since smbclient access works, shares list works on windows) Regards Le 13/07/2015 15:53, Zerwes, Klaus a écrit : > set > > netbios aliases = > > in the global section of smb.conf > > Good luck > > Klaus

server signing = mandatory/required broken in 4.17.5 ?
We are using samba on RedHat 8.8. The latest samba version available for RHEL8 is samba 4.17.5 Since samba is updated to 4.17.5 from 4.16.4 the "server signing = mandatory" config option seems to be broken. Nessus scans reports a vulnerability on server signing not required: SMB Signing not required VULNERABILITY MEDIUM PLUGIN ID57608 Description Signing is not required on the remote

Win ACL share Perm and recycle bin
Hi I've set up a domain with 2 dc (samba 4.16.10 - debian 11) a fileserver ( 4.15.13 ubuntu 22) , and 50 windows client. fileserver has a few share with win ACL ( I follow [ https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_a_Share_Using_Windows_ACLs | https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_a_Share_Using_Windows_ACLs ] ) . Everythings works fine and I can setup security access for that

compare st_mode & 07777, or Aix dirs always differ
Under Aix directories have the mode 024xxxx instead of the customary 04xxxx. Because of this when you sync a directory to or from an Aix system it's never up to date. Here is a patch which fixes this. It causes rsync to look at only the bits that chmod actually influences, 07777, when deciding whether or not the modes differ. I was surprised there wasn't an existing constant for 07777,

vfs_shadow_copy2 with snapprefix & delimiter options in samba 4.6.2
Hello Dear Samba Users, I have sucessfully set a samba share on a centos 7 box (samba 4.6.2) and succeeded into make work snapshots (vfs_shadow_copy2 with xfs and lvm). The snapshots appears well in windows previous versions. However, I expected to go further with snapshots and use the options "shadow:snapprefix" and "shadow:delimiter"in order to filter daily, weekly

vfs_shadow_copy2 with snapprefix & delimiter options in samba 4.6.2
Hi (+mailing list again for the archives) My config which does show previous versions: # /usr/local/samba/sbin/smbd --version Version 4.6.11 To avoid having this config block within in each share, I define the following within the [global] section:   shadow:snapprefix = ^\(monthly\)\{0,1\}\(weekly\)\{0,1\}\(daily\)\{0,1\}$   shadow:delimiter = _UTC_   shadow:format =

[PATCH] New APIs: Implement stat calls that return nanosecond timestamps (RHBZ#1144891).
The existing APIs guestfs_stat, guestfs_lstat and guestfs_lstatlist return a stat structure that contains atime, mtime and ctime fields that store only the timestamp in seconds. Modern filesystems can store timestamps down to nanosecond granularity, and the ordinary glibc stat(2) wrapper will return these in "hidden" stat fields: struct timespec st_atim; /* Time of last

[PATCH] fuse: UID 0 should override all permissions checks (RHBZ#1106548).
Previously if you were root, and you tried to change directory into a directory which was not owned by you and not readable (eg. 0700 bin:bin), it would fail. This doesn't fail on regular directories because when you are root the kernel just ignores permissions. Although libguestfs in general tries not to duplicate kernel code, in the case where we emulate the FUSE access(2) system call,

vfs_shadow_copy2 with snapprefix & delimiter options in samba 4.6.2
Hi, I notice you're using 4.6.2 and I'm using 4.6.11. I made the following comment at some point within [global]:   #disable "unix extensions" to avoid using "allow insecure wide links"   #  for access to ../xxxx_SNAPS for BTRFS "previous versions" snapshots   #  --it seems to have reverted once more to not need the below two settings   ##unix
