(OT) OpenOffice.org calc chart strangeness.
I am attempting to create a simple line chart graphing three columns from a soffice-calc spreadsheet. I expect it to take the leftmost column as the X-Axis, plotting the others on the Y-Axis, but it always creates an X-Axis of the row number in the columns, and the first column amongst the data. I have tried this on OpenOffice.org 3.2.0, NeoOffice(R) 3.0.2 Patch 2, iWork Pages, and Excel 12.2.4

OpenOffice.org 3.1 installation was corrupted-installed again, nothing in Applications/Office menu
I had a corrupted installation of OpenOffice.org 3.1. When I used "yum remove openoffice.org-core" the response was "package openoffice.org-core available but not installed", but then, when I used "yum install openoffice.org-core there was a long list of Transaction Check Errors. I then removed openoffice.org3.1-redhat-menus-noarch which was in the errors. Here's the

OpenOffice 3.3.0 crashing on CentOS 5.5
The last few releases of OpenOffice have gotten very unstable on my desktop which is a CentOS 5.5 i386 system. After multiple crashes when doing embedded simple drawings in OpenOffice writer (circles and lines with connections), I started using the versions from Sun then Oracle. I am now using version 3.3: openooffice.org3-3.3.0-9567. I've lived with this but with version 3.x it has gotten

FYI CentOS-5, SElinux and OpenOffice-2.3
I have installed OOo 2.3 on CentOS-5. Everything seems to work but I had to locate the item reproduced below. Since this is a vital modification I reproduce it here so that it gets a wider audience. FYI: OOo 2.3.0 and SELinux: "no suitable windowing system found, exiting." OpenOffice.org (OOo) 2.3.0 is incompatible with the SELinux technology activated by default in Fedora 7, Fedora

Having see the huge spec file (around 3700 lines), building it ourself is really not fun :( --beast

Bridging R to OpenOffice
Dear members of the R Development Team, I am looking for people with a deep understanding of R internals to assist in bridging R to OpenOffice. While R is a state of the art statistical environment, less experienced users often find it difficult to work with R. Therefore, I believe that a bridge between R and a spreadsheet program will make this transition less painful. I sincerely believe

Ubuntu 8.04 breaks samba file locking
Just upgraded Saturday from Ubuntu 7.10 to 8.04.01. File locking in Samba is now broken, meaning two different users can have the same file open at the same time and edit it. Server is RedHat 9.0 running Samba 2.2.7a-security-rollup-fix. This has been working well for us for several years. Have one WinXP box accessing the server using OOo 2.0. Have another couple of Win95 boxes. In addition,

Problem when opening files after installing OpenOffice 3.1 on CentOS 5.4
Hi, I have installed OpenOffice 3.1 downloaded from the openoffice.org website on CentOS 5.4 x86_64. The downloaded file is actually an archive containing RPMs. I did not use their setup tool but installed directly the RPMs I was interested in via 'yum localinstall' (my idea is in the future to put them on a custom yum repository, so that they can be managed via regular yum install /

Reading microsoft .xls format and openoffice OpenDocument files
1. I have used gdata::read.xls() with much happiness. But every now and then it breaks. I have not, as yet, been able to construct a mental model about the class of .xls files for which it works. Does someone have a simple rule for predicting the circumstances under which it will work? 2. Just like there is a read.xls(), it'd be great if we have a read.ods() which directly

OpenOffice.org 1.1.2 vs. 2.0.2
Hi, I recently migrated from Slackware 10.2 to CentOS 4.3, upon advice of fellow Slacker and CentOS user Daniel de Kok. Been working very intensively for the last three weeks with it, and I must say: I really like it. This is the Real Work(tm) Distro I was always looking for! There's a practical reason for this: beginning on June 1st I will be chief sysadmin of our village's town hall.

Locking for Linux/WinXP clients (-or- CIFS issues)
Hi... I've been running samba 3.0 for quite some time now (Debian's stable version, currently 3.0.14) and I've had no problems. That's probably been because all my clients were Windows XP boxes. I've now moved several users to Linux (Ubuntu Breezy) as their desktop and I've noticed there seems to be a problem in accessing files across the platforms. If a Linux box

locking in samba
Hello! I've got into problems with simultaneous access to files on samba server. Two (or more) people from different computers may open the same file and may independently change it (with openoffice, for example). Certainly, this is not the expected behavior. If the file is shared on windows machine, when the first user opens it, he gots RW permission, while the next one(s) may open this

Somewhat OT: OpenOffice.org Headless issues as non-root user
Hi, I've installed recently OpenOffice.org 3.1 on Centos 5.3. I use OOo in headless mode. I have no problem when running as root, but I'd prefer run it as non-root user (oooserver user). When I run the script in debug mode this is the output: sh -x /tmp/ooo-headless-nonroot start + . /etc/rc.d/init.d/functions ++ TEXTDOMAIN=initscripts ++ umask 022 ++

Samba client file locking
Hello, I am trying to work out the file locking mechanism on our Samba server when connecting from Linux clients. I am getting some strange behaviour in a mixed Linux/Windows environment when multiple clients open/lock the same file for writing. Everything seems fine when a Windows client creates the lock, but if a Linux client creates the lock, we get either two or more Linux clients being able
